Pick capacity (Ah) for the runtime you need, and choose a charger designated for the same voltage platform. Greenworks batteries are not universal across its 24V, 40V, 60V and 80V systems.
Start with your tool’s voltage platform
Read the tool label or manual and note both its voltage platform and exact model number. Greenworks’ rule is that batteries interchange only among tools on the same voltage platform: a 24V or 80V battery, for example, cannot be used in a 40V tool. The brand name alone does not establish compatibility. See Greenworks’ battery compatibility guidance.

- Find the voltage and model number on the tool label or in its manual.
- Consider only batteries from that same voltage platform.
- Check the exact battery model against tool-specific fit restrictions before buying.
- Choose capacity based on the runtime you want, once compatibility is confirmed.
Choose battery capacity for runtime—not compatibility
A battery’s amp-hour (Ah) rating describes its capacity. Greenworks says a higher-Ah battery provides more runtime, but that general guidance does not establish that a larger pack fits every tool or promise a particular number of minutes of use. Runtime depends on the tool and working conditions; use a model-specific published figure if one is available.
Do not compare Ah numbers across different voltage platforms as if they determine whether a battery will work. Voltage-platform compatibility comes first; capacity is a runtime choice within the compatible options.

Older 80V snow throwers
Greenworks’ batteries-and-chargers FAQ says 80V 20-inch snow throwers with model numbers 2600402, 2605202 and 2601302, manufactured before September 2017, accept only 2.0Ah or 2.5Ah battery models. If you have one of these older machines, verify its date and consult its manual before selecting a pack. See the Greenworks batteries and chargers FAQ.
60V 8.0Ah battery model 2957102
Greenworks’ FAQ pages give differing lists of tools excluded from use with the 60V 8.0Ah battery model 2957102, describing height-related fit restrictions. Because those lists do not agree, do not rely on a single general list as complete. Check the exact tool model in its current manual or ask Greenworks support before buying this battery.
Match the charger to the voltage platform
Greenworks says each product line has designated charger models that can charge batteries in that voltage platform regardless of Ah rating. This means a charger’s designation for the correct platform matters; it does not establish that a charger works across different voltage platforms. Check the charger model against the battery or tool documentation. The manufacturer’s battery and charger guidance lists its platform rule.

Greenworks says chargers sold in the United States and Canada are designed for 120V outlets. If you are elsewhere, check the charger label and the manual for your region; the manufacturer information cited here does not establish specifications for other regions.
How quickly will a Greenworks battery charge?
Greenworks’ current, undated voltage guidance says its Fast Charging System can fully charge a battery in as little as 30 minutes, depending on the battery’s Ah rating. Treat that as a broad manufacturer statement, not a guaranteed charge time for every battery and charger combination. Check the specific charger and battery documentation for the pairing you plan to use. See Greenworks voltage guidance.
Charging and storage care
If the charger shows a red light
- A solid red light typically indicates a battery-temperature issue. Let the battery and charger return to room temperature before trying again.
- If the status LED blinks red, remove the battery for a minute and reinsert it. If the blinking continues, unplug the charger for a minute, reconnect it and retry.
- If a battery was just used and the charger indicates full, remove it and let it rest at room temperature for about 10–15 minutes before trying again.
- A persistent red blink may indicate a battery or charger issue. If the steps above do not resolve it, consult Greenworks support or the product manual.
These troubleshooting steps come from Greenworks’ battery charging instructions.

- Diagnostic LED charging indicator. Communicates current charge level, and any battery or charger issues
- Charges 24V 1.5Ah (BAG711) battery in 45 minutes / Charges 24V 2Ah (BAG708) battery in 60 minutes / Charges 24V 4Ah (BAG709) battery in 120 minutes / Charges 24V 5Ah (BAG710) battery in 150 minutes
- Can be used on bench top or mounted on the wall
For extended storage
Store the battery indoors in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Disconnect the battery from the charger and unplug the charger when it is not charging. During extended storage, Greenworks recommends checking the battery’s charge every couple of months and charging it back to full if the level has dropped. Remove a fully charged battery from the charger and unplug the charger. See Greenworks battery storage guidance.

- Tool voltage platform and exact model recorded from the label or manual.
- Battery is from the same voltage platform.
- Any model-specific physical-fit or age-related restriction checked.
- Ah capacity selected for runtime needs, without assuming it guarantees fit or a specific runtime.
- Charger designated for the same platform, with its model verified against the documentation.
- Regional charger supply checked; Greenworks specifies 120V for chargers sold in the United States and Canada.
Greenworks’ battery catalog groups products into 24V, 40V, 60V and 80V categories; use the confirmed platform when browsing listings. A search phrase such as “Greenworks battery and charger kit for [confirmed voltage platform]” may help locate options, but verify the product’s voltage and exact model before ordering.
