There is no official GTA 6 resolution or frame-rate target for consoles in the materials currently available, so no monitor resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, or response time can be called a requirement. Choose a monitor that works with your PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, fits your room and budget, and offers the display features you want for games generally.
What monitor should you get for GTA 6?
Start with the console you own, then weigh screen size and viewing distance, resolution, refresh rate, HDR, and price. Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as the game’s platforms and gives November 19, 2026 as its release date on the official GTA VI page. Rockstar’s “Plays Best On PlayStation 5” wording is its platform positioning, not evidence of a higher resolution or frame rate than the Xbox versions.

Rockstar’s HDR troubleshooting guidance applies to computer monitors as well as TVs, but it is general setup advice—not a GTA VI-specific display requirement. The official information reviewed does not state the game’s console resolution, frame rate, graphics modes, or monitor refresh-rate target.
Will GTA 6 run at 120 fps?
That has not been confirmed in the official materials reviewed. They do not announce a console frame rate or graphics mode, so a 120 Hz monitor cannot be recommended on the basis of a confirmed GTA 6 120 fps mode. A higher refresh rate may suit other games or your broader system use, but whether GTA 6 will use it is unknown.

Do you need a 4K monitor for GTA 6?
No 4K requirement has been announced in the official materials reviewed. Higher resolution may be a preference, but the game’s console resolution has not been specified. Consider what your console supports, how close you sit, and whether the price fits your budget rather than paying extra because of an unconfirmed GTA 6 claim.
How to compare monitors for your setup
Check the console connection and supported modes
Choose for your PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, and verify the exact monitor model’s inputs and supported display modes. Do not assume that a feature listed on a monitor works in every mode or over every input; check the manufacturer’s specifications for the combination you plan to use.

Match screen size and resolution to your viewing distance
A monitor should fit your desk and the distance at which you play. Resolution is one part of the choice, not a GTA 6 requirement established by Rockstar. Consider whether the extra detail of a higher-resolution screen matters at your usual seating distance and whether the price trade-off makes sense to you.
Treat refresh rate as a general-use choice
Refresh rate describes a display’s capability, not a confirmed GTA 6 performance mode. If you also play games that benefit from higher refresh rates, that feature may be worthwhile for those uses. The available official GTA 6 information does not establish a target rate.

Compare HDR implementation, not just the label
Rockstar advises checking that a display supports HDR and that HDR is enabled. The word “HDR” by itself does not establish how well a particular monitor presents HDR; compare the model’s specifications and manufacturer guidance before buying. Do not infer GTA 6 image quality from the label alone.
Set a budget around features you can use
Decide which features matter for your console and other games, then compare current listings for monitors with those specifications. A higher price is not proof that a monitor is necessary for GTA 6, and no specific monitor model or price is established here.

How to check HDR settings before playing
Rockstar’s HDR troubleshooting article, last updated August 25, 2026, advises the following. Menu names vary by display; Rockstar recommends consulting the monitor maker for model-specific settings.
- Check the display: Confirm that the monitor supports HDR and enable HDR on the display.
- Check the HDMI cable: Rockstar advises checking HDMI 2.1 cable support. This is not a claim that every setup needs a new cable; you may already have a compatible one.
- Enable Game Mode if available: Use the monitor’s Game Mode setting if it offers one.
- Review picture processing: Rockstar advises disabling picture-enhancement features and Dynamic Tone Mapping when enabled.
- Enable HGIG if supported: Turn on HGIG only if your display supports it.
- Consult the manufacturer: Check the monitor maker’s instructions for the exact names and location of its settings.
What is confirmed about platforms and release?
Rockstar’s platform and editions page, last updated August 18, 2026, lists PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It says the physical version will contain a download code rather than a disc. Take-Two’s June 24, 2026 announcement also gives the November 19, 2026 date, names those platforms, and describes GTA VI as a single-player experience.

Sony’s PlayStation Blog post says GTA VI will “play best on PS5” by using PS5 features, including DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers and Tempest 3D AudioTech. This is Sony’s promotional statement; it does not confirm that the PS5 version has higher display resolution or frame rate.
