Choose by workflow first: the Bambino keeps the machine compact but calls for a separate grinder; the Barista Express integrates grinding while leaving milk steaming manual; and the Oracle Jet automates grinding, dosing, tamping, and milk texturing. Counter space, hands-on involvement, preferred controls, and accessory compatibility help narrow the choice.
Start with the workflow you want
Decide how much of the espresso routine you want the machine to handle. Breville’s US product pages describe three distinct approaches: a compact machine without a listed built-in grinder, an integrated grinder with manual milk texturing, and a more automated touchscreen machine. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent performance tests.

Do you want an integrated grinder?
- Bambino BES450: Breville describes espresso and steaming functions but does not list an integrated grinder. Plan to assess a separate grinder if you want to grind whole beans at home. Breville Bambino
- Barista Express BES870: Includes an integrated conical burr grinder, dose control, and 16 grind settings, according to Breville. Breville Barista Express
- Oracle Jet BES985: Breville describes an integrated grinder with 45 settings and automatic grinding, dosing, and tamping. Breville Oracle Jet
How much milk-steaming control do you want?
The Bambino and Barista Express pages describe manual milk texturing. The Oracle Jet’s Auto MilQ feature is described as hands-free milk texturing, with settings for alternative milks. If you want to practise steaming yourself, the first two fit that workflow; if you want the machine to handle more of it, the Oracle Jet is the documented option among these three.
Do you prefer simple controls or guidance?
The Barista Express uses button controls. The Oracle Jet adds a touchscreen, drink recipes, and Barista Guidance. Breville’s comparison also lists the Barista Touch as a touchscreen alternative with hands-free milk texturing. Barista Express and Oracle Jet comparison · Barista Touch and Oracle Jet comparison

Which machine fits which kind of home barista?
Choose the Bambino if compact size and a manual routine suit you
The Bambino is the smallest of these three by the listed dimensions. It has a 54 mm portafilter, 18 g dose, manual milk texturing, and single- and double-shot volumetric control. Breville specifies a ThermoJet heating system and says it reaches optimum extraction temperature in three seconds; that is a vendor specification, not an independently measured result. Because its cited page does not list a grinder, account for that separately if you need one. Breville Bambino product details

Choose the Barista Express if you want a grinder in the machine and manual steaming
The Barista Express combines grinding and brewing in one unit while retaining a hands-on milk workflow. Breville lists a conical burr grinder with 16 settings, dose control, a 54 mm portafilter, PID temperature control, and button controls. Breville’s product description says, “With a single touch, the integrated precision conical burr grinder with dose control delivers the right amount of coffee on demand for maximum flavor.” That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent test result. Choose the Oracle Jet if automation and guided choices matter most
The Oracle Jet is the most automated of the three: Breville describes automatic grinding, dosing, and tamping into a 58 mm portafilter, touchscreen drink recipes, Barista Guidance, and Auto MilQ hands-free milk texturing. Its listed water-tank capacity is 2.3 L. Its larger listed footprint and automated workflow may make it a better fit for someone prioritizing guided convenience over manual preparation. Measure your counter and check accessory fit
Use the listed dimensions to check available width, depth, and overhead clearance; product photos do not show how much room your own counter has. Allow for the space you need to reach controls and work around the machine. The Bambino and Barista Express use 54 mm portafilters in the cited US materials, while the Oracle Jet uses 58 mm. Accessories such as portafilters and tampers therefore require a model-size check. Confirm the current package contents and compatibility before buying accessories.
