Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor most people, the right first Bauer tool is a 20V drill/driver kit that includes a battery and charger. It handles pilot holes, ordinary drilling, screws, furniture assembly, shelving and routine repairs. Add a Bauer impact driver when you regularly drive long screws or lag fasteners. If you are setting up a broader workshop and need several categories immediately, the six-tool combo is the practical platform starter because it supplies multiple tools, two batteries and a charger.
The key decision is not just which tool performs one task. Bauer tools are built around a 20V cordless battery system, so the battery and charger you buy first affect every later purchase. Choose the tool for your projects, then choose a kit that avoids paying for duplicate batteries or a charger.

How the Bauer 20V platform affects your purchase
Bauer is presented by Bauer Tools as a Harbor Freight cordless-tool brand organized around a 20V battery platform. The platform approach lets you use a compatible battery across multiple Bauer 20V tools instead of buying a separate power system for each one. Bauer describes the idea this way: invest in one battery and charger, then grow the collection piece by piece.
Recommended Free Tools
That makes your first purchase a platform decision. A complete kit is normally the sensible starting point for someone who owns no Bauer batteries. A tool-only package becomes sensible after you already have a compatible Bauer 20V battery and charger. Before ordering, check the individual product listing for the exact battery interface and included accessories; product names, bundles, inventory and promotions can change.

What “20V” tells you—and what it does not
The 20V label identifies the Bauer battery family, not a promise that every tool has the same speed, torque, cutting capacity or runtime. A drill/driver, circular saw and blower place very different demands on a battery. Compare the tool’s stated capabilities and choose battery capacity based on how long and how hard you expect to work.
Why tool-only pricing can be misleading
A tool-only price is not the complete cost for a new user. Add the price of a compatible battery and charger before comparing it with a kit. Conversely, if you already own those items, tool-only purchases can avoid paying for equipment you do not need. Keep all of your batteries within the Bauer 20V system if your goal is a single-platform collection.
Choose the tool by the work you actually do
20V drill/driver: the best first tool for most homes
A drill/driver is the most versatile starting point for general DIY. Its chuck accepts common drill and driver bits, and an adjustable clutch helps limit screw-driving force so you are less likely to strip a screw or damage a softer material. Use it for:
- Drilling holes in wood, plastic and other materials listed in the product specifications.
- Making pilot holes before driving screws.
- Furniture assembly and shelving.
- Routine household repairs and hardware installation.
- Occasional fastening where speed and control matter more than maximum torque.
If you have no Bauer batteries, choose the complete drill/driver kit rather than the tool alone. It gives you a working system immediately and leaves the battery available for later Bauer tools.
Impact driver: for repetitive, high-torque fastening
An impact driver complements a drill/driver. It is designed for repeated fastening, including long screws and lag fasteners, where a conventional drill/driver can struggle or tire the user. The 1/4-inch hex interface is intended for compatible driver bits rather than the broad range of round-shank drill bits accepted by a standard chuck.
Choose an impact driver when your project involves many structural screws, deck fasteners, long wood screws or similar repetitive work. It is not automatically a replacement for a drill/driver: drilling ordinary holes, using specialized drill bits and making delicate screw adjustments are usually easier with the drill/driver. A two-tool drill-and-impact kit is a practical choice if you expect both kinds of work and want one battery platform.

- Ergonomically Designed: Work in tight areas with a compact design that gets into tough spots
- Both tools are designed to fit into difficult to reach spaces
- Complete a wide range of applications with a high-performance motor that delivers up to 300 UWO, and an impact driver delivering up to 1,400 in-lbs of torque
- Both the DEWALT impact driver and drill driver feature integrated LED work lights with a convenient 20-second delay, ensuring enhanced visibility in dimly lit or challenging work areas
- One-Handed Loading - Keep one hand free with a 1/4 in. hex chuck that accepts 1 in. bit tips
Hammer drill/driver: only when you need masonry drilling
A hammer drill/driver adds a hammering action for masonry drilling, but the exact Bauer model and bit system must match the job. Confirm the product’s stated capabilities before using it on concrete, brick or heavy masonry. Do not assume that every Bauer drill/driver has a hammer mode or that a hammer drill replaces a dedicated rotary hammer for demanding work.
Circular saw: for repeated straight cuts
A cordless circular saw is justified when you are repeatedly cutting boards, plywood or sheet goods. It is faster and more consistent for long straight cuts than trying to make many cuts with a small hand tool. Buy one when a project involves enough stock cutting to benefit from a dedicated saw; for a few small cuts, the cost, storage space and battery demand may not be worthwhile.
Check the specific model’s blade diameter, cutting-depth specifications, bevel range and safety features before buying. The six-tool kit described in Harbor Freight’s August 5, 2024 newsroom release includes a 6-1/2-inch circular saw.
Oscillating multi-tool: detail work and access
An oscillating multi-tool reaches places a circular saw cannot. Typical uses include flush cuts, plunge cuts, scraping and detail work around trim, flooring, cabinets and repairs. It is a problem-solving tool rather than a primary saw: choose it when access, control or a specialized cut matters more than making long, fast straight cuts.
The same August 5, 2024 release identifies the combo kit’s oscillating tool as brushless. Do not generalize that specification to every Bauer oscillating model; verify the listing for the tool you are considering.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Blower, light, inflator and other specialty tools
Specialty tools make sense when a task recurs. A blower can clear a work area, a light can improve visibility where mains power is unavailable, and an inflator can handle recurring tire or equipment maintenance. These tools are useful additions after you have established the core drill/driver battery system. Buying a specialty tool for one brief task may cost more and occupy more storage than the task justifies.

Drill/driver or impact driver?
The choice depends on the dominant task, not on which tool sounds more powerful.
| Question | Choose a drill/driver when… | Choose an impact driver when… |
|---|---|---|
| Primary job | You need general drilling, pilot holes, furniture work or controlled screw driving. | You will drive many long screws, lag fasteners or other repetitive fasteners. |
| Bit interface | You want a chuck that accepts common drill and driver bits. | You are prepared to use compatible 1/4-inch hex driver bits. |
| Control | An adjustable clutch and lower-force fastening are valuable. | High torque and reduced user effort on repetitive fastening are the priority. |
| Best first purchase | Usually the complete kit for a new Bauer user. | Usually an addition to an existing drill/driver, or part of a two-tool kit. |
| What it does not replace | It is not the fastest choice for large quantities of long, heavy fasteners. | It does not replace a drill/driver for every drilling or delicate fastening task. |
If you are uncertain, start with the drill/driver. Add the impact driver once your projects show a repeated need for extra fastening speed or torque. If you already know that both tools will be used in the same project, the two-tool kit can provide a cleaner starting setup.
Battery capacity, runtime and portability
Battery capacity is commonly expressed in amp-hours (Ah). A higher Ah rating generally provides more stored energy, but it can also add weight and size. Runtime depends on the tool, material, bit or blade, pressure, speed and duty cycle, so an Ah number alone cannot predict a precise number of holes, screws or cuts.

How to match capacity to a job
- Light, intermittent work: A smaller battery keeps a drill/driver or light compact and is often adequate for short repairs.
- Long fastening sessions: Carrying a second battery or using a higher-capacity pack reduces interruptions when driving many screws.
- High-demand cutting or blowing: Plan for faster energy use and keep a charged spare available.
- Overhead or ladder work: Consider the weight of the battery as part of tool control, not just runtime.
What the six-tool kit includes
Harbor Freight’s August 5, 2024 newsroom release describes the Bauer 20V six-tool combo as including a 1.5 Ah lithium-ion battery, a 3 Ah lithium-ion battery and a 1.7-amp charger. The smaller pack can favor portability, while the 3 Ah pack provides more stored energy for longer sessions; exact runtime is not stated and will vary by tool and conditions.
Charging planning
The same release rates the included charger at 1.7 amps. Charging time depends on the battery’s state and capacity. Rotate batteries between tasks instead of waiting for a depleted pack at the end of a workday, and follow the charger and battery instructions for temperature, storage and charging conditions.

A step-by-step buying method
- List the next three projects. Write down whether each project is mainly drilling, ordinary screw driving, repetitive fastening, masonry drilling, straight cutting, detail cutting or cleanup. Choose for the repeated work, not a one-off task.
- Check whether you already own Bauer 20V batteries. If you do, inspect their condition and confirm that the charger is compatible. If you do not, plan on a kit that includes both.
- Pick the core tool. Select the drill/driver for mixed household work, the impact driver for repeated long fastening, the hammer drill/driver for confirmed masonry needs, or the saw and multi-tool for recurring cutting work.
- Decide whether one tool is enough. Buy a single kit when your immediate work is narrow. Move to the two-tool kit when drilling and high-torque fastening are both central.
- Price the whole platform. Include batteries, charger, bits, blades and any required accessories. Compare tool-only and complete-kit options only after making those additions.
- Choose battery capacity deliberately. Favor lower weight for short, overhead or detail tasks; favor more stored energy or a spare battery for long fastening, cutting or blowing sessions.
- Confirm the listing immediately before checkout. Product names, stock status, bundle contents and promotions are changeable. Match the listed tool, battery, charger and accessories to your project list.
Project examples
Assembling furniture and installing shelves
Choose the drill/driver kit. You need pilot holes, controlled screws and occasional drilling, not sustained impact fastening. Use the clutch to avoid overdriving screws into particleboard or soft wood, and keep a suitable drill bit for pilot holes.
Building a deck or fastening a shed frame
An impact driver becomes valuable when the job requires many long screws or lag fasteners. Keep a drill/driver available for pilot holes and countersinking. A two-tool kit suits this combination if you do not already own either tool.
Cutting plywood for several cabinets
A circular saw is the appropriate category for repeated straight cuts. Use the drill/driver for assembly and pilot holes. If the same project also includes trim cuts, an oscillating multi-tool can cover those inaccessible areas without turning the circular saw into a detail tool.
Replacing a few boards and making flush cuts
An oscillating multi-tool is the more flexible choice for flush and plunge cuts in tight spaces. Buy it as a platform addition if this kind of repair recurs; do not choose a six-tool package solely for one small cut unless the other tools will also be used.
Cleaning a workshop or inflating equipment
A blower or inflator is justified by recurring cleanup or maintenance. Establish the drill/driver battery system first, then add the specialty tool so its battery and charger are shared rather than duplicated.

Common buying mistakes and fixes
Buying the impact driver as the only tool
Symptom: You discover that ordinary drilling or delicate fastening is awkward because your bits and control are limited. Fix: Use the drill/driver as the general-purpose tool and reserve the impact driver for repetitive high-torque fastening.
Buying a bare tool without checking batteries
Symptom: The new tool cannot be used immediately, or the supposed saving disappears after adding a battery and charger. Fix: Confirm your existing Bauer 20V battery and charger before ordering, then compare the complete system cost.
Assuming every Bauer tool has identical capabilities
Symptom: A tool is used for masonry, deep cutting or another demanding job outside its stated specification. Fix: Read the exact model’s capabilities, bit or blade requirements and safety instructions. In particular, verify hammer-drill suitability before drilling concrete or heavy masonry.

Choosing the largest battery for every task
Symptom: A compact tool becomes tiring or awkward during overhead and detail work. Fix: Match capacity to duty cycle, keep a spare for long jobs and treat weight as part of ergonomics.
Buying a large combo for one tool
Symptom: Several tools remain unused while storage and upfront cost increase. Fix: Choose the six-tool combo only when you have near-term uses for several categories and value the included batteries and charger.
Safety and setup essentials
- Read the model-specific manual before installing a battery, bit, blade or accessory.
- Use bits and blades rated for the material and tool interface; an impact driver requires compatible 1/4-inch hex accessories.
- Remove the battery before changing blades, bits or accessories and before clearing a jam.
- Secure the workpiece, keep both hands clear of cutting paths and wear eye protection.
- Inspect batteries, chargers, cords and housings for damage. Stop using damaged equipment.
- Keep batteries and the charger within the temperature and storage limits stated in their instructions.
- Use the correct speed, clutch setting and pressure for the material instead of forcing the tool.
Final decision
Buy the Bauer 20V drill/driver kit first if you want one tool for the widest range of household jobs. Choose the drill-and-impact-driver kit when your projects combine general drilling with many long or heavy fasteners. Choose the six-tool combo when you are intentionally building a broader Bauer platform and will use its saw, oscillating tool, blower and light as well as the drill and impact driver. In every case, verify battery compatibility and current bundle contents before checkout, because those details determine the platform’s real value.
