There is no single best Identity for every Limbus Company mode. Choose for the encounter and your team: Story stages reward a roster suited to the enemies, Mirror Dungeon choices should fit the run, and Railway picks depend on the active route and its rules. Treat an overall tier list as a starting point, not proof that an Identity is best for your particular stage or objective.
What an Identity is—and why “best” depends on the mode
Project Moon describes an Identity as “a different possibility borrowed from the myriad of dimensions.” In practical terms, it is a Sinner’s alternate combat version, with its own skills, stats, passives, and role. Choosing one means choosing a kit for a team and a situation—not selecting a universally strongest character.

The official game guide describes clashes, stagger, resonance, and redirecting enemy targets as tactical choices. Those mechanics make encounter fit important: a unit’s general reputation cannot tell you by itself whether it answers the attacks and mechanics in front of you.

| Mode | What to prioritize | What a general tier list cannot tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Story stages | Clash reliability, damage and status coverage suited to the enemies, and enough survivability or control for dangerous actions. | Whether a unit fits a specific stage, team, and level of investment. |
| Mirror Dungeon | A coherent team that works with the run’s available choices and rewards. | Whether a high-ranked Identity is the right pick for your current run. |
| Refraction Railway | Fit with the active route, its encounters and rules, and your scoring or reward objective. | A current Railway roster recommendation unless it is based on those specific conditions. |
Best Identities for Limbus Company Story stages
Build around the stage you are actually entering. Check what the enemies do, then identify the jobs your team needs to cover: winning important clashes, dealing appropriate damage, applying useful status effects, and surviving or controlling dangerous actions. A high general ranking is less informative than a clear answer to the stage’s demands.
#1 Best Overall
Do not treat a recommendation as a universal clear. A claim that one Identity is best only makes sense when it specifies the stage, the team around it, and the Identity’s investment. Without those conditions, “best for Story” is too broad to be reliable.
Best Identities for Mirror Dungeon
Mirror Dungeon is a repeatable resource mode, and the current seasonal notice identifies Mirror Dungeon #8 as Season 8 content. Plan for the run rather than copying an all-purpose ranking: consider whether your team works together and whether its strategy fits the choices and rewards available during that run.

Railway advice needs to be tied to the active Refraction Railway’s route, encounters, rules, and objective. The available Season 8 information does not establish the active Railway lineup, its current rules, or a mode-specific roster ranking. An overall tier list should not be presented as a Railway-tested team recommendation.
Before committing to a roster for Railway, check the active in-game event details and evaluate candidates against its actual encounters. If a recommendation does not state which Railway and objective it addresses, it may not answer your question.
How to compare two Identities fairly
- Match the encounter. Check whether each Identity’s skills fit the enemy attack types, weaknesses, and mechanics in the stage or route. The official guide’s discussion of clashes and target redirection is a reminder to evaluate the actual fight.
- Compare the job you need. Ask whether the team needs dependable clashes, damage, status application, support, or tanking. A role label can help explain what a unit does, but it does not establish that the unit is best for a particular mode.
- Check team synergy. Look at how the Identity works with the rest of your roster and intended status or strategy. A current skill database or team builder can help verify interactions; describe the whole composition rather than judging a unit in isolation.
- Keep investment equal. State the level and Uptie when comparing options. Leveling changes stats, and Uptie promotions can unlock skills and passives, so two differently invested Identities are not a like-for-like comparison.
- Confirm acquisition availability. Check the in-game Dispenser and extraction details before planning around a specific Identity. Season 8 changed seasonal shard carryover and availability, so prior-season access should not be assumed.
How to use tier lists and current guides
Prydwen’s tier-list page was last updated October 6, 2026, and organizes Identities by strength tiers and roles such as damage dealer, status specialist, support, and tank. That is useful context for comparing broad roles, but its captured page does not establish a named Identity’s October 6 ranking here, much less a Railway-tested ranking.
Pocket Gamer marks its guide updated September 17, 2026, for version 1.114.0, and presents an overall power and usefulness comparison. Read it as a broad editorial ranking, not as a separately validated winner for every mode. Its reroll advice is the author’s opinion.
