1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe best Simpson Strong-Tie specialty fastener is the model that matches your exact connection, substrate, design loads, exposure and installation method. Strong-Drive, Deck-Drive, stainless-steel, Quik Drive, Titen anchors and the SDPW/SDWC/SDWF screw families serve different jobs. Select from the current technical data rather than treating one family as a universal safety or productivity winner.
Why there is no universal “best” fastener
A fastener does not make a connection safe by itself. The connection is designed as a system: the connector or anchor, fastener type, diameter or size, length, quantity, spacing, edge distance, substrate, material and finish all have to agree with the applicable instructions. Simpson Strong-Tie’s general notes state: “Incorrect fastener quantity, size, placement, type, material, or finish may cause the connection to fail.”
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
That warning is especially important when a project description uses a broad phrase such as “specialty fasteners.” A structural screw for a wood connector, a coated deck screw, a stainless-steel screw for a corrosive environment and a concrete anchor may all be sold by the same manufacturer, but they are not interchangeable. The right choice depends on the connection you are actually building.

The 2025 catalog and technical guide establish product scope and design resources, not a head-to-head performance ranking. “Maximum efficiency and safety” therefore means making a correct, repeatable selection and installation for the application—not choosing a single winning product family.

Simpson Strong-Tie specialty fastener families at a glance
The 2025 Fastening Systems Catalog covers several distinct lines. Use the table to narrow the search, then verify the exact model in its current load and installation data.
| Family or example | Typical role | What must be verified | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strong-Drive structural screws | Structural fastening where a listed screw is specified for a wood or connector application | Exact model, diameter, length, quantity, spacing, hole or installation requirements and allowable loads | A “structural screw” label does not make every size suitable for every connector or load |
| Deck-Drive screws | Decking and related exterior fastening applications covered by the applicable product data | Decking material, framing material, exposure, finish, length and the approved installation method | Do not infer treated-wood or outdoor suitability from the family name alone |
| Stainless-steel fasteners | Applications where the specified stainless material and corrosion resistance are required | Stainless grade or product specification, environment, compatible materials and required dimensions | Corrosion performance still depends on the exact product and exposure; verify the current limits |
| Quik Drive productivity systems | Repeated fastening with a compatible collated screw and driver setup | Tool, nosepiece, screw model, substrate and the manufacturer’s compatibility information | The supplied material does not establish a quantified time saving for any particular project |
| Titen HD anchors | Concrete or masonry anchoring covered by the model-specific anchor instructions | Concrete or masonry type, diameter, embedment, hole preparation, spacing, edge distance and installation torque or procedure where specified | Titen HD instructions are not interchangeable with Titen Turbo instructions |
| Titen Turbo anchors | Concrete and masonry fastening where the Titen Turbo model is specified | Required diameter and length, base material, embedment, spacing, edge distance and the current installation procedure | Availability and technical data should be checked against current manufacturer information |
| SDPW, SDWC and SDWF screws | Distinct screw products listed in the Product Installer’s Guide for particular fastening-system applications | Model-specific driver bit, angle, placement, substrate, connector and installation limits | These are separate products, not generic screws that can be substituted for one another |
The catalog also provides a Fastener Finder that can be filtered by application, type and model number. That is a more reliable starting point than selecting by appearance, package size or a broad product-family name.
Start with the connection and substrate
Wood-to-wood connections
Identify the members being joined, the connector (if one is present), the design load and the required fastener schedule. A listed Strong-Drive or other specified screw may be appropriate, but the connector’s table controls the permitted model, number, spacing and placement. Record the actual wood species or engineered-wood product when the design information distinguishes among them.

Wood-to-masonry or wood-to-concrete
Separate the wood connection from the anchorage question. First determine how the wood member or connector is attached; then select the anchor system for the concrete or masonry base. Titen HD and Titen Turbo each have their own instructions. Confirm base-material strength and condition, hole diameter and depth, embedment, edge distance and spacing before drilling.
Decking and exterior work
For decking, match the screw to the decking and framing materials and to the exposure. Check whether the project involves treated lumber, coastal air, de-icing salts, pool chemicals or another corrosive condition. A coated or stainless option may be required, but the finish decision must come from the current product-specific corrosion guidance.
Steel or mixed-material assemblies
Do not assume a wood screw can be moved into steel or a masonry anchor into a thin-gauge member. Confirm the base material, thickness and connector listing. If the current instructions do not cover the proposed substrate, stop and obtain a design-approved alternative rather than improvising.

A step-by-step selection workflow
- Describe the connection. Write down what is being joined, such as a joist hanger to a wood beam, a ledger to masonry or decking to treated framing. Include whether a listed connector or anchor is involved.
- Identify every substrate. Name the wood or engineered-wood product, concrete or masonry type, steel thickness or other base material. A mixed connection may require separate fastener decisions on each side.
- Collect design inputs. Obtain factored or allowable loads, required capacity, member dimensions, edge distances, spacing limits and any project-specific code or engineer requirements. Do not select from a photograph or screw-head style alone.
- Search the current catalog. In the Fastener Finder, filter by application and type, then use the model number to open the exact product information. The 2025 Fastening Systems Catalog is marked to expire on December 31, 2026; use a newer edition if one has replaced it.
- Open the technical data. Use the 2025 Technical Guide for the load table, spacing diagram, installation guideline and product information that applies to the proposed model. Its stated purpose is to provide “load tables, spacing diagrams, installation guidelines and product information for Simpson Strong-Tie fastening products as they are applied to various building/structural applications.”
- Match the complete specification. Check type, size, quantity, placement, material and finish against the connector or anchor instructions. A model with the right diameter but the wrong length, coating or placement is not an equivalent substitute.
- Confirm the installation method. Read the Product Installer’s Guide entry for the exact product. The guide includes separate instructions for Titen HD, Titen Turbo, SDPW, SDWC and SDWF products. Verify driver bits, pilot-hole requirements, installation angle, torque or depth controls and any prohibited methods.
- Document the decision. Record model number, dimensions, finish, quantity, substrate, design table, installation tool and inspection checks. Keep the package label and the applicable instructions with the job records.
Use the right edition of the manufacturer’s references
| Reference | What it provides | Status and use |
|---|---|---|
| Fastening Systems Catalog C-F-2025 | Strong-Drive, Deck-Drive, stainless-steel fasteners, Quik Drive productivity products and product-finder information | Marked to expire December 31, 2026; it replaces C-F-2023. Check whether a newer edition is available before ordering. |
| Fastening Systems Technical Guide 2025 | Load tables, spacing diagrams, installation guidelines and product information | Use the tables and diagrams for the actual application instead of marketing descriptions. |
| Product Installer’s Guide | Model-specific installation resources for concrete/masonry anchors and fastening systems, including Titen HD, Titen Turbo, SDPW, SDWC and SDWF | Follow the entry for the exact model; similar names do not mean interchangeable procedures. |
| Wood Construction Connectors C-C-2026 | Specifications and installation instructions for structural connectors in wood-to-wood, wood-to-masonry and wood-to-concrete applications | Current 2026–2027 edition, marked to expire December 31, 2027. |
| Concrete/masonry catalog C-A-2023 | Concrete and masonry anchoring information | Marked expired June 30, 2026. As of October 2026, verify current online product information before relying on anchor-specific data. |
Expiration dates are not a substitute for checking revisions. A project that spans a catalog change should retain the edition used for design and confirm that the ordered model has not been superseded.
Design checks that prevent connection failures
- Capacity: Use the applicable load table for the exact substrate, member thickness and fastener configuration. Do not transfer a value from a visually similar model.
- Quantity and pattern: Install every required fastener, in the stated holes or locations. Omitting a fastener or moving it to avoid an obstruction can change the connection capacity.
- Spacing and edge distance: Maintain the table’s minimum spacing, end distance and edge distance. These limits control splitting, breakout and group effects.
- Embedment and length: For anchors, verify effective embedment after accounting for coatings, gaps, washers and any unthreaded section. For screws, ensure the specified length reaches the required member without penetrating an unintended service or structural element.
- Material and finish: Confirm the fastener material and corrosion-resistant finish for the exposure and for contact with treated wood or dissimilar metals. Never replace a specified stainless product with a generic coated screw.
- Substrate condition: Concrete and masonry must meet the instructions’ strength and condition assumptions. Cracked, hollow, deteriorated or unusually thin material may require a different design.
- Connector compatibility: Use only fasteners listed for the connector or anchor. A screw’s nominal strength does not authorize its use in a connector whose holes, geometry or coating requirements differ.
Installation practices for safety and repeatability
Before driving or drilling
- Read the current model-specific instructions and identify the required bit, socket, driver setting, drill size and depth stop.
- Inspect the substrate for cracks, voids, rot, hidden utilities and inadequate member thickness.
- Lay out hole locations with a template or measured marks so spacing and edge distances are maintained.
- Separate fasteners by model and length on the work surface; mixed bins are a common source of substitutions.
During installation
- Keep the driver aligned with the specified angle and seat the head or washer as instructed. Overdriving can damage the member or reduce the effective head bearing.
- For anchors, drill the specified diameter and depth, clear dust as required and install to the stated embedment or torque procedure. Do not reuse a hole that fails the installation requirements unless the instructions explicitly permit it.
- For collated systems, use only the screw, tool, nosepiece and bit combination identified as compatible. Quik Drive is a productivity solution, but compatibility must be confirmed for the exact model.
- Stop when a screw spins, stalls, hits an obstruction or cannot reach the specified seating condition. Treat the cause before continuing rather than hiding the problem with a second fastener.
After installation
- Count installed fasteners and compare the pattern with the drawing or table.
- Check head seating, exposed threads, damaged coatings, cracked wood, anchor rotation and visible concrete or masonry damage.
- Photograph concealed connections before covering them and record model, lot or package information where project documentation requires it.
Efficiency: where productivity systems help—and where they do not
Efficiency comes from reducing selection errors, rework and unnecessary handling while preserving the specified connection. Quik Drive can support repetitive fastening when the tool, collated fastener and application are compatible. It is most relevant to high-volume work such as repeated sheathing, decking or connector installation, where consistent feed and driver setup can simplify the workflow.
The available material does not establish a universal percentage improvement in installation time, labor cost or safety incidents. Measure productivity on your own project only after the correct model and installation settings are established. A faster method that uses the wrong screw, misses a hole or damages the substrate is not an efficient installation.

A practical batch-installation method
- Stage only the approved model and length for the work zone.
- Set the driver or Quik Drive system according to the model-specific instructions.
- Install a small sample and inspect seating, penetration and substrate condition.
- Continue in a consistent sequence that preserves the specified pattern.
- Perform a count and visual inspection before moving materials or covering the connection.
Application examples
Replacing a missing screw in a wood connector
Do not select a screw by diameter alone. Identify the connector model, locate its approved fastener schedule, confirm the member thickness and exposure, then install the listed model in the specified hole. If the original hole is damaged or inaccessible, obtain an approved repair detail rather than moving the screw.
Fastening decking in a corrosive environment
Determine the decking and framing materials and the actual exposure—such as treated wood, salt air or pool chemicals. Compare the finish or stainless option named in the current product information, verify length and placement, and confirm that the screw is intended for that decking system.

Anchoring a ledger or connector to concrete
Establish the concrete condition, required load, edge distances and embedment first. Then compare the Titen HD or Titen Turbo model-specific instructions and current technical data. Drill, clean and install exactly as directed; a masonry anchor selected from an expired reference should not be treated as current without verification.

High-volume repetitive fastening
When many identical fasteners are required, evaluate a compatible Quik Drive setup. Confirm the collated screw model, tool and nosepiece, run a test installation and retain the same inspection checks used for hand-driven fasteners.
Troubleshooting common problems
| Symptom | Likely issue | Corrective action |
|---|---|---|
| Screw head will not seat | Wrong bit, driver setting, angle, substrate thickness or model | Stop, compare the exact installation instruction and replace the bit or model only with an approved option. |
| Wood splits near the end | Insufficient edge or end distance, wrong length or an unapproved hole location | Do not add a random nearby screw; follow the connector’s repair or redesign procedure. |
| Anchor spins or will not reach embedment | Incorrect hole diameter or depth, debris, weak base material or damaged threads | Stop installation, inspect the hole and substrate, and use the manufacturer’s corrective detail or a new engineered location. |
| Fasteners show early corrosion | Finish or material does not match exposure or dissimilar-metal contact | Document the condition and obtain a corrosion-compatible replacement specification before continuing. |
| Collated system misfeeds | Incompatible screw strip, nosepiece, bit or driver setup | Verify the Quik Drive compatibility information for the exact model and reset the tool as instructed. |
| Connection has fewer fasteners than the drawing | Installation count or layout error | Pause inspection and obtain an approved correction; never assume a larger screw automatically compensates for missing quantity. |
