Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteChoose GST compliance software by mapping it to your business’s GSTINs, transaction volume, return-filing process, e-invoice and e-way bill needs, accounting system, reconciliation workload, and in-house IT capacity. Then check how the product connects to the relevant GST workflows and handles exceptions. There is no universally best option: the right fit depends on your operations, and current vendor capabilities, support, security practices, and costs need to be verified directly.
Start with the work your business needs to do
Before comparing products, document the compliance work the software must support. A growing business may have several GST registrations, more invoices and transactions, or new e-invoice and e-way bill workflows. A tool that fits one GSTIN and a modest volume may not suit a business managing multiple registrations or needing data to move between billing, accounting, and filing workflows.

- GSTIN structure: List the registrations the business needs to manage and whether staff need to work across them.
- Volume and timing: Estimate invoice and transaction volume, and note whether processing can be batched or must happen in real time.
- Returns: Identify which return-filing tasks the software must support and who prepares, reviews, and files them.
- E-invoices and e-way bills: Determine whether these workflows apply to your transactions and how their data should reach your accounting records and returns.
- Existing systems: Record the accounting, ERP, billing, or other systems already in use, and identify where data is currently re-entered.
- Reconciliation and exceptions: Note what staff need to compare, correct, approve, or investigate when records do not match.
- Internal capacity: Decide who can implement and maintain integrations, manage access, and resolve technical issues.
These requirements create a practical shortlist and make vendor demonstrations more useful: ask the provider to show your actual workflow, including a correction or exception, rather than only a successful filing path.

Return filing
The GST Portal’s GSTR-1 user guide says GSTR-1 must be filed even when there is no business activity for the tax period. It also describes filing through third-party ASP applications via GSPs. Check that a product supports the filing process and GSTIN structure you actually use; do not assume that a connection to accounting software by itself covers return preparation, review, and filing.

E-invoicing
GSTN describes e-invoicing as electronic authentication of B2B invoices. The Invoice Registration Portal (IRP) issues an identification number, and invoice information flows into GST and e-way bill workflows. The GST Portal’s GSTR-1 guide also says e-invoice details are received from the IRP for GSTR-1. That flow can affect how you assess duplicate entry and reconciliation: establish which system is the source for invoice data and how the software displays, checks, and handles returned information. See GSTN’s e-invoicing overview and the National Informatics Centre’s GST e-invoice project page.
E-way bills
The official E-Way Bill System describes e-way bills for movement of goods exceeding ₹50,000 in specified circumstances. That statement is not a complete applicability test: confirm the current rules for your transaction type rather than treating the figure as a universal trigger. If e-way bill generation is part of your process, check how it connects to invoice and dispatch data and how errors or changes are handled.
Compare integration routes against your capacity
Integration is an operating choice, not a feature checkbox. A portal-based or provider-mediated workflow may be a practical fit for a smaller or less technical operation, but that is a business judgment, not a universal official recommendation. Direct API integration can suit a different operating profile and brings implementation and maintenance responsibilities.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Route | Potential fit | What to establish before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| GST Portal workflow | A business that can manage its work through the portal. | Confirm the product’s role in preparing, checking, and filing data, and what staff still need to do in the portal. |
| Third-party ASP application through a GSP | A business that wants a provider-mediated application workflow. The GST Portal guide confirms this as a filing path. | Ask how the application connects to your existing accounting or billing process, which steps are automated, and how exceptions are resolved. |
| ERP or accounting-system connection | A business that wants GST tasks to fit an existing system and reduce handoffs. | Verify compatibility with your specific system and version, data mapping, reconciliation, and what happens when records are incomplete or inconsistent. |
| Direct API integration | Taxpayers with internal IT teams, large transaction volumes, and a need for real-time e-invoice generation—the group identified by the official e-invoice portal as suited to this route. | Assess development, testing, ongoing maintenance, and support capacity. The e-way bill API introduction likewise describes API integration for high-volume taxpayers. |
For e-way bills, the API documentation says system integration can avoid duplicate data entry and reduce data-entry mistakes. Treat that as a stated benefit of integration, not a guarantee that every implementation will eliminate errors. Direct APIs are not automatically simpler or cheaper: the cited official guidance identifies the intended operating profile, but does not quantify implementation or maintenance effort.

Test the accounting, reconciliation, and exception workflow
A useful evaluation follows the data from its origin through review and filing. Ask the provider to demonstrate how invoice and transaction data enters the software, how it is matched to records in your accounting or ERP system, and how a staff member can identify and correct a discrepancy. For e-invoices, include the IRP-to-GST flow in that walkthrough; for e-way bills, include the relevant dispatch process.
- Can the software handle the GSTINs and filing roles you identified?
- Does it support your accounting and billing tools, or would staff need to export, import, or re-enter information?
- Can reviewers identify missing, duplicate, or inconsistent records before filing or generating documents?
- Can you trace a correction and see which records or workflows it affects?
- What happens when a portal or integration step fails, and how does the user know whether to retry or investigate?
- Can staff separate preparation, review, and approval responsibilities in the way your process requires?
These are evaluation questions, not claims that every product provides particular controls. Verify each capability in a demonstration or in the provider’s current documentation.

Official workflow guidance does not establish which commercial products currently offer particular features, support commitments, security or data-handling practices, or prices. Ask each shortlisted provider for current details relevant to your deployment, including service coverage, support response expectations, data handling, implementation responsibilities, and the full cost of the workflow you plan to use. Compare those terms using the same GSTIN count, volume assumptions, integrations, and support needs so the comparison is meaningful.
GST rules, portal and API specifications, applicability, and vendor capabilities can change. Confirm current requirements and product behavior for your registrations and transactions before implementation. This guide is about software selection, not tax or legal advice.
