Choose the Radeon RX 9070 XT if it is meaningfully cheaper and you mainly play conventional, non-ray-traced games. Choose the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti if you care more about demanding ray tracing or path tracing, lower power use, DLSS support, or compatibility with your specific creator or AI software. In TechSpot’s May 2026 comparison of 52 games, overall gaming performance was close: the cards were nearly tied at 1440p, while the RTX 5070 Ti held a modest lead at native 4K. Neither result predicts how every game will run, so your game list and the price of the exact cards available to you matter more than a single aggregate score.

How do the RTX 5070 Ti and RX 9070 XT compare in games?

TechSpot’s May 22, 2026, 52-game comparison found the cards effectively tied at 1440p overall. The RTX 5070 Ti led by about 1.4%, or roughly two frames per second, and its reported average 1% lows were 108 fps versus 107 fps for the RX 9070 XT. At native 4K, the RTX led by about 4%, with reported averages of 84 fps versus 81 fps. These are results from that review’s games, settings, and test system—not a guarantee for your PC or every title.

Individual results can swing either way. In the tested settings, the RX 9070 XT led in Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Final Fantasy XVI, while the RTX 5070 Ti led in Crimson Desert and Stalker 2. Cyberpunk 2077 illustrates how settings can change the comparison: standard rasterized rendering slightly favored Radeon in the tested configuration, while ray tracing favored GeForce. Look for results at the resolution and graphics settings you intend to use in the games you actually play.

Why older comparisons may show a different winner

TechSpot’s March 2025 comparison tested 55 games and found the RX 9070 XT about 5% behind overall at 1440p and 4K. That result comes from a different, earlier test suite; it is not directly interchangeable with the May 2026 comparison. Game selection, updates, and testing methods can shift an aggregate. For a purchase decision, use the newer comparison as a broad reference and check current, game-specific results where possible.

Which card is better for 1440p or 4K?

At 1440p, the 2026 aggregate does not establish a meaningful overall gaming-performance winner: its approximately 1.4% RTX lead is small, and particular games can reverse it. If you play mostly conventional-rendering games, the cheaper card is often the more sensible choice when the price gap is substantial.

At native 4K, the RTX 5070 Ti had a modest lead in TechSpot’s 2026 aggregate. That does not mean every game will be faster on it, or that either GPU will meet a particular frame-rate target in every demanding game. Compare results for your preferred titles and settings, including whether the test uses native rendering or upscaling.

Which GPU is better for ray tracing and path tracing?

The RTX 5070 Ti is the stronger choice if demanding ray tracing or path tracing is a priority. TechSpot’s 2026 comparison found NVIDIA ahead in heavy ray tracing and especially path tracing. In its examples, Cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing favored the RTX card, and Doom: The Dark Ages with path tracing showed a large relative NVIDIA lead.

A relative lead does not necessarily mean a smooth native experience. TechSpot described the RTX card’s tested Doom: The Dark Ages path-tracing frame rate as unplayable without mitigation. Upscaling, frame generation where available, or lower settings may be needed on either card for demanding effects. Check the game’s specific results and features rather than assuming that a card’s advantage makes every high-end preset practical.

Consider the upscaler you will actually use

Tom’s Guide’s 2026 buying guide identifies broader DLSS 4 game support relative to FSR 4 as an NVIDIA advantage, and describes FSR 4 as awkward to use. Support changes over time, and that guide’s counts are time-sensitive; verify current support for the games you play. The relevant question is not simply which technology has a higher headline version number, but whether the feature you want is available and works well in your titles.

How much should price affect the choice?

Because conventional gaming performance is close in TechSpot’s newer aggregate, compare current local prices for the exact board-partner models you can buy. A substantial RX 9070 XT discount strengthens its case for conventional gaming. If the price gap is small, the RTX 5070 Ti’s ray-tracing and path-tracing performance, lower power use in TechSpot’s comparison, and software advantages may be worth paying for.

Do not treat older prices as current offers. TechSpot’s March 2025 article listed launch MSRPs of $600 for the RX 9070 XT and $750 for the RTX 5070 Ti, and reported then-observed prices of about $750 and $900, respectively. Those are historical U.S. figures from that article, not October 2026 prices or a guide to availability in other regions. Its judgment that Radeon needed to be at least 15% cheaper, while a gap below 10% could favor GeForce, was specific to its circumstances at the time—not a universal buying rule.

When comparing listings, check the card model, warranty, stock, and local price rather than relying on a GPU-family name alone. Board-partner versions can differ in cooling, dimensions, and power requirements, so compare like with like.

What should you check before buying for your PC?

Power use and fit are practical differences between individual cards, not just benchmark details. In TechSpot’s May 2026 comparison, the RX 9070 XT typically consumed about 20% more power than the RTX 5070 Ti. Treat that as a review-level comparison, not a prediction of your whole system’s electricity use or bill. Partner models and workloads can vary.

Before ordering, verify the specifications for the exact card on its manufacturer’s product page:

  • Power: Check the card’s stated power requirements and the recommended system configuration against your power supply.
  • Connectors: Confirm that your power supply has the required connectors and that any manufacturer guidance for their use is followed.
  • Clearance: Compare the card’s dimensions with the space in your case, including room for its length, thickness, and airflow.
  • Cooling and warranty: Compare the specific board’s cooler, warranty terms, and local support; these are not identical across partner models.

Which card is better for work, Blender, or AI?

Tom’s Guide’s 2026 buying guide favors NVIDIA directionally for creator and AI performance, discussing workloads such as animation rendering, AI image generation, local LLM processing, Procyon generative AI tests, and Blender. It does not establish a complete apples-to-apples RTX 5070 Ti versus RX 9070 XT result set for each of those workloads. Treat NVIDIA as a reasonable starting point if productivity or AI is a major priority, not as a guarantee that it is faster in every application.

Before choosing for work, check support and current benchmarks for the software you actually use. Confirm the specific application version, rendering engine, AI model and runtime, and any required GPU features or software stack. A benchmark from a different application—or even a different renderer or runtime within the same broad workload—may not predict your results.

Which card should you buy?

  • Choose the RX 9070 XT if it costs meaningfully less where you live and your priority is conventional gaming performance in your own library.
  • Choose the RTX 5070 Ti if you prioritize heavy ray tracing or path tracing, want lower power consumption as seen in TechSpot’s comparison, or benefit from DLSS support and your specific creator or AI software.
  • Compare again at checkout if the price difference is small: check the exact models’ current prices, dimensions, connectors, cooling, and warranty before deciding.

There is no universal winner. For a close gaming contest, the RX 9070 XT’s value depends on its actual discount; the RTX 5070 Ti earns its premium when its particular features matter to your games or work.
