Compare the final amount you would pay for the same product, configuration and seller—not the headline discount or exchange estimate. A card discount is worthwhile when your exact card and purchase qualify; an exchange offer is worthwhile when the accepted value for your old device beats the card savings and the value of keeping or selling it separately.
Start with the final price
Work out the amount due at checkout under each option. Use the same new product, configuration, seller and base price for both calculations. A card offer is tied to an eligible payment method and transaction; an exchange offer depends on the old item’s eligibility and the value the retailer confirms.

Do not add an advertised card discount to an exchange estimate unless the offer terms allow both and the checkout actually applies both. For example, SBI Card’s Amazon offer terms for a campaign in 2026 required the card-paid amount after exchange to meet a minimum threshold. That condition applied to that particular campaign, not to card offers generally: SBI Card’s Amazon offer terms.

A banner does not prove your purchase qualifies. Read the offer terms and confirm that the discount appears in the payment summary before ordering.
- Card and product eligibility: Check the eligible card variants and any product, catalogue or seller exclusions.
- Spend threshold and cap: Look for a minimum transaction value and the maximum discount. A percentage discount may be capped, so its effective value can be lower than the headline rate.
- Required payment route: Some offers require a particular payment option or EMI tenure. Check whether interest, fees or other EMI terms change the total cost.
- Stacking rules: Confirm whether the discount can be combined with an exchange, coupon or other promotion.
- Dates and checkout steps: Verify the campaign is active, select the required issuing bank or offer, and enter the eligible card details as directed. Croma’s terms, for instance, say customers must select the issuing bank offer at payment to receive its instant discount: Croma’s bank-offer terms.
Promotions can impose minimum purchase values or limit eligibility to particular catalogue selections; the seller’s offer details explain which conditions apply. Amazon’s help page describes these general types of promotion qualification, but it is seller-facing guidance rather than a guarantee that a consumer’s order qualifies: Amazon’s promotion help.

Calculate the exchange value you can actually get
Use the value shown for your exact old make and model after providing any required details, and account for condition checks or handover requirements. Treat a displayed estimate as provisional until the retailer’s current process confirms the eligible value. Separate any exchange bonus from the base exchange value and check its conditions; a bonus may depend on a specific product, store, payment method or campaign.
Then consider what you give up by handing over the old item. If you have a credible separate resale estimate, compare it with the exchange value. There is no universal resale price or inspection rule, so use the offers available for your particular device and location.

Compare the options side by side
- Write down the same new product’s base price from the same seller.
- For the card option, subtract only the discount confirmed for your card and payment route, and include any EMI cost or fee that affects the total.
- For the exchange option, subtract the confirmed value for your old item and any exchange bonus whose conditions you meet.
- Check whether the two benefits may be combined. If they can, use the checkout total with both applied; do not assume that stacking is allowed.
- Compare the resulting amount due, then weigh the exchange against keeping or separately selling your old item.
- Before placing the order, confirm that the applicable benefit is visible in the final checkout total and that the offer is still within its dates.
The better deal is the one with the lower true cost for your circumstances, not necessarily the one with the larger advertised savings. A card discount may be more predictable once eligibility and payment terms are confirmed; exchange value can remain conditional on the retailer’s assessment of the old item.

- ICICI Bank’s iPhone for Life page described a limited scheme for specified products and stores, including a Servify buyback option and an exchange bonus of up to ₹6,000 through Cashify. The campaign ended on 26 September 2026: ICICI Bank’s iPhone for Life offer page.
These examples illustrate why an offer label or past headline figure cannot establish which option saves more on a purchase today. Check the current terms and your own checkout total.
