How to Choose ARTU Saw Accessories for Any Cutting Job

By Freedom251 Team · · 9 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The right ARTU accessory is determined by your saw’s attachment, the blade length the job allows, and the material you need to cut—not by the ARTU name alone. ARTU-USA’s documented line is chiefly tungsten-carbide-grit blades for jigsaws, reciprocating saws, rod saws and hacksaws, plus replacement blades for ARTU grout rakes.

These are specialized abrasive-cutting tools. ARTU describes the grit edges as cutting and filing on both forward and backward strokes, with carbide particles instead of conventional teeth. The company also says the blades do not need sharpening. Those are manufacturer claims; no independent comparative test establishes a universal performance advantage. Use the guide below to match the interface, size and material before ordering.

What ARTU saw accessories actually include

The documented ARTU-USA range is narrower than the word “accessories” might suggest. It covers replacement cutting elements in several saw formats rather than a complete system of guards, guides or dust-collection add-ons.

Because the catalog does not establish universal fit across brands or models, treat every size below as a starting point. Confirm the shank, holder or pin arrangement against your saw manual and the exact listing before buying.

How ARTU carbide-grit blades differ from toothed blades

A conventional saw blade removes material with discrete teeth. ARTU’s catalog describes its grit blades as having edges covered with tungsten-carbide particles rather than teeth that can dull or break. ARTU says this construction lets the blades cut and file on both the forward and backward stroke and means they do not need sharpening.

That design is aimed at abrasive construction and remodeling materials as well as selected wood products. It does not make every ARTU blade suitable for every job. Grit texture, blade length and the saw’s motion still have to match the workpiece, and the company’s own metal warning is important.

Manufacturer-listed materials

ARTU-USA lists the following applications for its grit saw blades:

  • Brick
  • Cast metal
  • Cement board
  • Ceramic tile
  • Composites
  • Concrete block
  • Fiberglass
  • Flagstone and slate
  • Hardwood
  • Laminates
  • Marble
  • Plaster
  • Plywood
  • PVC
  • Reinforced cement

These are manufacturer-stated applications, not an independent ranking of cut speed, finish quality or service life. For a clean finish on visible wood, a conventional fine-tooth blade may still be the more appropriate tool; ARTU’s documented strength is access to hard, abrasive or mixed construction materials that quickly challenge ordinary teeth.

The metal limitation

Do not interpret the product as a general metal-cutting blade. ARTU-USA’s product page says, “Please be advised that ARTU Saw Blades are not recommended to be used on metal, except cast metal.” The catalog uses narrower wording, “except cast iron.” Because the two official descriptions are not identical, avoid ferrous or nonferrous sheet, tubing and structural steel unless ARTU confirms the specific material and blade. If your project involves cast iron or another cast alloy, verify the exact recommendation before cutting.

Choose an ARTU jigsaw blade by shank first

Jigsaw compatibility starts at the shank, the portion that locks into the tool. ARTU’s catalog lists both U-shank and T-shank grit blades, and those interfaces are not interchangeable simply because the blade length looks right. Check the saw manual, the clamp shape and the blade listing before considering material or length.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Shank style Cataloged lengths Selection check
U-shank 2-3/4 inches; 3-5/8 inches Use only with a jigsaw that accepts U-shank blades.
T-shank 3 inches; 4 inches Use only with a jigsaw that accepts T-shank blades.

The catalog labels the listed jigsaw grit as medium. In practical terms, a shorter blade is easier to control in a thin or confined workpiece, while a longer blade provides more reach for thicker stock, but the saw’s maximum stroke and the material’s thickness remain controlling factors. Do not force a blade beyond the depth or clearance specified by the saw manufacturer.

Jigsaw fit checklist

  1. Identify whether your saw accepts T-shank, U-shank or another proprietary interface.
  2. Measure or estimate the material thickness and allow clearance for the shoe and orbital movement.
  3. Match the catalog length to the saw’s permitted blade range; do not assume a 4-inch blade is acceptable merely because it is ARTU.
  4. Confirm that the material appears on ARTU’s application list and is not excluded by the metal warning.
  5. Install the blade with power disconnected, lock it fully into the clamp and perform a no-load check before contacting the workpiece.

Reciprocating-saw blades: match length to access and control

ARTU catalogs medium-grit reciprocating blades in 4-, 6-, 8-, 9- and 12-inch lengths. It also lists a three-piece set containing 6-, 9- and 12-inch blades, plus three-packs in 6-inch and 9-inch sizes.

Format Available sizes When it helps
Single blade sizes 4, 6, 8, 9 and 12 inches Choose the shortest length that safely clears the workpiece and shoe.
Three-piece set 6, 9 and 12 inches Useful when one saw will handle varied thicknesses or reach conditions.
Three-packs 6-inch and 9-inch packs Provides spares for repeated work with the same approximate reach.

There is no universal “best” reciprocating length. A blade that projects far beyond thin plywood can flex and wander; one that is too short can bottom out before completing the cut. For demolition or irregular access, select a length that leaves enough engagement without unnecessary overhang. For controlled trimming, prioritize the shortest cataloged blade that reaches through the stock.

Reciprocating-saw setup

  1. Disconnect the saw or remove its battery while checking the clamp.
  2. Verify that the reciprocating holder accepts the blade’s tang and that the blade seats completely.
  3. Compare the blade length with the workpiece thickness, shoe position and any hidden substrate.
  4. Support the material to limit vibration, then start at a controlled speed and let the grit edge do the filing.
  5. Stop if the blade binds, overheats or begins contacting metal that is outside ARTU’s stated exceptions.

A set is a convenience, not proof that every included length suits your saw or project. The saw manual still governs maximum blade length and operating technique.

Rod-saw blades for narrow or remote cuts

ARTU lists 6-inch and 12-inch rod-saw blades. The catalog also identifies a 6-inch version with a pin. Rod saws rely on a specific holder or frame, so the pin detail can be decisive: a holder designed for a pinned blade may not retain a plain version securely, and the reverse can also be true.

Rod-saw option Catalog detail Check before purchase
6-inch blade Standard listed length Confirm the holder’s attachment style.
6-inch blade with pin Pin-equipped version listed Confirm that the rod-saw frame is designed for the pin.
12-inch blade Longer listed length Confirm frame clearance and the maximum supported length.

Use the shorter option where access and control matter more than reach. The 12-inch format can be useful when the blade must pass through a deeper or more obstructed section, but a longer flexible element demands careful alignment. ARTU’s material list still applies; rod-saw format does not remove the metal restriction.

Hacksaw blades: verify the frame, not just the length

The catalog lists 10-inch and 12-inch ARTU hacksaw blades. Hacksaw frames vary in how they tension and retain blades, so measure the frame’s required pin-to-pin length and inspect the end holes before ordering. A blade that is nominally the right length but has the wrong end geometry will not tension correctly.

  1. Release the frame tension and remove the old blade.
  2. Measure the installed blade between its retaining pins or slots.
  3. Check whether the frame accepts the listed 10-inch or 12-inch size and the same end-hole pattern.
  4. Install with the frame’s intended orientation and tension; do not overtighten a lightweight frame.
  5. Keep the workpiece supported and avoid applying side loads that can crack the grit edge or twist the frame.

ARTU’s cataloged hacksaw lengths are useful for replacement planning, but the holder’s dimensions are the final compatibility test.

Grout-rake replacement blades are a separate category

ARTU’s catalog lists two replacement blades for both its professional and DIY grout rakes. It also lists complete grout-rake tools supplied with two blades. These replacements should be treated as parts for the matching ARTU grout rake, not as general-purpose hacksaw, jigsaw or reciprocating blades.

Before ordering, identify whether you own the professional or DIY rake and compare the replacement listing with the tool’s model or packaging. A grout-rake blade is designed around that rake’s clamping method and intended grout-removal motion; adapting it to another holder can create a retention and safety problem.

Material decisions for woodworking and construction

Hardwood, plywood and laminates

ARTU includes hardwood, plywood and laminates in its stated applications. These materials vary widely in thickness, adhesive content and surface finish. Use the jigsaw or reciprocating format that gives the control and reach your cut requires, and secure the sheet or board so vibration does not turn an abrasive cut into a wandering one. For a highly visible edge, make a test cut in scrap first; the manufacturer’s application list does not promise a furniture-grade finish.

Tile, masonry and cement products

Ceramic tile, brick, concrete block, cement board, reinforced cement, marble, flagstone and slate are all listed by ARTU-USA. These materials can be brittle, abrasive or heavy, so support them close to the cut line and protect the saw from loose dust. Choose a blade length that clears the section without excessive flex, and use the tool format that reaches the work while keeping both hands and the saw stable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Plastics, composites and fiberglass

PVC, composites and fiberglass appear on the manufacturer’s list. Clamp thin sections to reduce chatter and check the cut frequently for heat buildup or melting. The grit edge is not a substitute for following the saw maker’s speed and duty-cycle limits.

Cast materials and the metal boundary

Cast metal appears in ARTU-USA’s application list, while the catalog says “except cast iron.” Neither source supports treating these blades as suitable for ordinary steel, aluminum sheet or mixed metal assemblies. Identify the exact alloy and obtain confirmation when the workpiece contains reinforcement, fasteners or hidden metal.

A five-point buying checklist

  1. Interface: Select T-shank or U-shank for a jigsaw, the correct tang for a reciprocating saw, the matching rod-saw holder and pin arrangement, or the correct hacksaw frame ends.
  2. Length: Compare the catalog length with the saw manual, frame measurement and material thickness. Longer is not automatically better.
  3. Material: Match the workpiece to ARTU’s listed applications and treat the metal warning as a hard boundary until confirmed.
  4. Quantity: Decide between a single blade, a 6/9/12-inch reciprocating set, a three-pack, or a grout-rake replacement.
  5. Model confirmation: Read the exact product listing and your tool manual together. ARTU branding alone does not establish fit.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

Buying by length alone

A 4-inch jigsaw blade and a 4-inch reciprocating blade are not interchangeable. Length is only one dimension; the shank or tang determines whether the tool can retain the blade.

Assuming “grit” means universal abrasive cutting

ARTU’s list is broad, but it is still a defined set of materials. Do not extrapolate from tile to every ceramic, or from cast iron to all metal. Confirm unusual substrates before cutting.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Using a grout-rake replacement as a saw blade

Replacement grout-rake blades belong to the matching rake system. Their presence in the same catalog does not make them general-purpose saw accessories.

Expecting independent performance figures

The available product information provides applications, formats and manufacturer descriptions, but no independent cut-rate, durability or noise measurements. Treat claims about bidirectional cutting, non-sharpening edges and tooth resistance as ARTU’s statements rather than guaranteed results for every material or tool.

Ignoring hidden metal

Construction materials can contain screws, mesh, anchors or reinforcement. Inspect the cut path and stop when you encounter metal outside the specifically confirmed exception. Continuing can damage the blade, saw or workpiece.

How to verify a listing before purchase

  1. Write down the exact saw model and holder type.
  2. For a jigsaw, record T-shank or U-shank; for a rod saw, record whether the holder requires a pin.
  3. Measure the blade length currently installed or the frame’s pin-to-pin span.
  4. Identify the workpiece material, including coatings, reinforcement and embedded fasteners.
  5. Choose the ARTU format and quantity that match those facts, then check the current listing for the same interface and size.
  6. Confirm availability and the seller’s current specifications at the time of purchase; product listings and stock can change.

Bottom line for serious woodworkers and carpenters

ARTU’s documented saw-accessory range is most useful when you need a carbide-grit blade for abrasive construction materials or a replacement element for an ARTU grout rake. Start with the tool interface, then select length, material and quantity. Jigsaw buyers must distinguish T-shank from U-shank; reciprocating-saw buyers can choose among 4- to 12-inch blades, sets and packs; rod-saw and hacksaw users must match the holder or frame; grout-rake owners should use only the corresponding replacement parts. Keep the metal warning in view, and do not treat manufacturer claims as independent test results.
