Check whether the RPG is available to you
Open the Xbox Game Pass games catalog and use its Role playing genre filter to find candidates. Treat the filter as a discovery tool, not proof that a particular game is included for you: Xbox says availability can vary by time, region, plan, and platform. Check the listing for the specific RPG and the device you intend to play on before comparing costs.

Xbox’s plan page lists Essential, Premium, Ultimate, and PC Game Pass, with differences in included libraries, supported platforms, release timing, and benefits. Match the game and your device to the current feature list rather than assuming that every tier includes every catalog title.
Compare the two ways to play

Estimate the cost for your likely play period
For Game Pass, consider the subscription payments you would make during the time you expect to play the RPG. For buying, use the game’s current price for the compatible platform and edition. Compare those totals for your situation; the official Xbox pages do not establish a universal cheaper option.

Xbox advertises savings of up to 20% on selected catalog games for members. That is a conditional offer, not a guaranteed discount on a particular RPG. Check the game’s current store listing to see whether an offer applies and what the price is.

Xbox says subscribers can access games in the library until the subscription is canceled or expires, or a game leaves the library. If you are likely to stop subscribing before finishing, or want to return to the RPG later, that uncertainty matters. Buying outright avoids dependence on the Game Pass catalog, though you should still confirm the platform and edition you purchase.

Before deciding, check the live catalog, the current plan features, and the game’s current purchase price and any member discount. These details can change, so a price or availability seen earlier is not a reliable substitute for checking the current listing.
