Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a conventional full-size gaming PC, start by comparing the MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI with the PRO Z890-P WIFI. Consider the MPG Z890 CARBON WIFI if your build needs more high-speed expansion, and the MPG Z890I EDGE TI WIFI if you are building around a mini-ITX case. All are part of MSI’s Z890 family for Intel Core Ultra Processors (Series 2) on the LGA 1851 platform; the right choice depends on fit, planned add-in cards, storage, connectivity, and current price—not a motherboard-only promise of higher frame rates.
First, check that the board fits your platform and case
MSI lists its Z890 boards for Intel Core Ultra Processors (Series 2) using the LGA 1851 platform. Before buying, check the CPU support list and any firmware requirements for the exact board revision and processor you plan to use. Also confirm that the board’s form factor is supported by your case; a model name alone does not establish case fit.

The lineup includes MEG Z890 GODLIKE, ACE, and UNIFY-X; MPG CARBON, EDGE TI, and EDGE TI mini-ITX; MAG TOMAHAWK; and multiple PRO models. MSI positions EDGE and TOMAHAWK as choices with core features for buyers who do not need its highest-end tier. These are product-family distinctions, not independent evidence of gaming performance.
Compare the four practical starting points
| Board | Best starting point | Established specifications | MSI US store price observed |
|---|---|---|---|
| MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI | Full-size gaming build needing built-in networking, several M.2 drives, and a modern graphics slot | Wi-Fi 7, Killer 5G LAN, four M.2 sockets, and a PCIe 5.0 x16 graphics slot | $259.99 |
| PRO Z890-P WIFI | Full-size build where the lower observed price is attractive, subject to checking the exact WiFi model’s specifications | The cited detailed specifications are for PRO Z890-P without the WIFI suffix; networking and storage details for the WIFI model are not established here | $239.99 |
| MPG Z890 CARBON WIFI | Build with a specific need for additional high-speed expansion capacity | CPU-connected PCIe 5.0 x16 slot plus a second CPU-connected PCIe 5.0 slot operating up to x8 | $369.99 |
| MPG Z890I EDGE TI WIFI | Compact build designed around a mini-ITX motherboard | MSI’s mini-ITX Z890 lineup option; verify detailed fit and feature specifications for the exact model | Not stated |

Choose based on the components you will actually install
For a straightforward full-size gaming build
The MAG Z890 TOMAHAWK WIFI is a useful starting point when its four M.2 sockets, Wi-Fi 7, Killer 5G LAN, and PCIe 5.0 x16 graphics slot match your plan. If you are weighing it against the PRO Z890-P WIFI, compare the exact WIFI model pages and manuals rather than assuming that the non-WIFI PRO specification page describes the board you are buying. The observed store-price difference was $20, but changing prices can erase or reverse it.
For more high-speed expansion
The MPG Z890 CARBON WIFI stands out if you have a concrete use for a second CPU-connected PCIe 5.0 slot that supports up to x8, in addition to its CPU-connected PCIe 5.0 x16 slot. Identify the add-in card or cards you intend to use, then check the manual for lane allocation and slot behavior in your planned configuration. Extra slots are expansion flexibility; they are not, by themselves, evidence of better gaming performance.

- Wi-Fi 7: the latest wireless solution with a new 320MHz channel, achieving a maximum transmission speed of 5.8Gbps
- 10G Super Lan: next level network speed, secure networking with fastest data throughput to improve efficiency
- Ultra Power Plus: the ultimate power solution with 24+1+2+1 DRPS, 110A SPS, and OC engine unleashes maximum CPU performance
For a compact case
The MPG Z890I EDGE TI WIFI is MSI’s mini-ITX option in this lineup. Mini-ITX can address a smaller motherboard footprint, but that does not establish that a particular GPU, cooler, radiator, or power cable will fit. Compare the board and case manuals and dimensions, and check GPU length and thickness, cooler height, radiator placement, and access to connectors before committing to a parts list.
Check storage, networking, and ports model by model
Do not select by chipset or product-family name alone. Count the M.2 and SATA connections your drives require, check which slots support the drive types you intend to install, and review any slot-sharing notes. Confirm the exact onboard wireless standard, wired Ethernet, rear-panel connectors, and front-panel headers on the product page and manual for the full model name, including suffixes such as WIFI.

These details matter especially when comparing PRO Z890-P WIFI with information published for PRO Z890-P: the detailed page identified for the latter is not the WIFI-suffix model. The TOMAHAWK WIFI’s listed networking and storage features are specific to that model and should not be generalized to every Z890 board.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Memory claims need a compatibility check
MSI announced the Z890 range on October 10, 2024, and published memory-overclocking claims of up to 9200+ MT/s across the lineup, with up to 9600 MT/s for UNIFY-X. These are manufacturer claims, not guaranteed settings or independent test results. Actual support depends on the processor, DIMM configuration, and memory kit. Check the exact board’s memory QVL and manual before choosing a kit or expecting a particular speed.
