Reallusion documents a workflow in which iClone handles the 3D scene and AI Studio generates video from a first-frame image and captured viewport video—not a direct transfer of an editable scene file into the AI generator.
What “3D scene import” should mean when comparing AI video tools
A product can support 3D in one part of its workflow without its AI model accepting 3D scene files. Separate these two questions before choosing:

- Can the 3D application import your assets? Check formats and whether mesh, materials, animation, cameras, hierarchy, and timing survive. A feature that imports a static prop is not necessarily able to import animated motion.
- Can the AI generation stage ingest the editable scene? Look for explicit support for scene data or project files. If the handoff consists of rendered images or video, the model is using visual references rather than the editable scene itself.
This distinction matters for control. Rendered references can guide composition and motion, but they are not equivalent to giving the generator access to scene geometry, camera parameters, or editable animation.
How Reallusion’s documented iClone-to-AI Studio workflow works
Reallusion presents iClone as the 3D previs and scene stage and AI Studio as the AI rendering stage. The documented 3D-to-Video process passes a first-frame image and a captured video of the iClone viewport to AI Studio. It is a 3D-guided handoff, not documented direct ingestion of a complete editable scene by the AI video model. Reallusion’s 3D-to-Video overview and Using 3D to Video manual describe the workflow.

- Import and stage the scene in iClone. Bring in the assets you need, then arrange and animate the scene.
- Create the first-frame image. Generate an image in the intended final style from the 3D project.
- Capture the viewport motion. Record the desired frame range as a video from that same project.
- Submit both references to AI Studio. Use the first-frame image and captured video as the inputs for the 3D-to-Video generation workflow.
Keeping the two references tied to the same project is part of the documented process. Reallusion’s manual says: “The First Frame image and captured video motion must originate from the same project to ensure the render style of the First Frame can be consistently maintained throughout the video.”
Check whether your 3D files and motion are supported
Reallusion’s iClone product information lists OBJ mesh/material import and FBX mesh/material/motion import; the displayed feature matrix gives FBX motion import a 3DXchange Pipeline condition. Separately, the iClone 8 manual describes importing OBJ and FBX files as props through File > Import or by drag-and-drop.

These references describe different import cases. Confirm that the exact current iClone version and edition handles your file type and asset use: importing a prop does not establish that an animated character, motion, or full scene will import with all its original structure and timing intact.
Check AI Studio’s reference-media rules before preparing a clip
The 3D-to-Video manual names Seedance 2.0 Mini, Seedance 2.0, and Seedance 2.5 for reference inputs. Its requirements vary by model: reference counts, accepted formats, file sizes, video duration, dimensions, and aspect-ratio rules are not necessarily the same. Listed image and video formats include PNG, JPG/JPEG, WebP, MP4, and MOV; BMP and GIF are also listed for Seedance 2.5. Audio reference types are included in the manual’s requirements table.

Choose the model first, then check its current in-app requirements and warnings before exporting. The manual does not establish one set of limits that can safely be applied to every model, and these constraints may change.

- Import formats: Does the 3D stage accept the file types you actually use, including the specific kind of asset—prop, character, or motion?
- What survives import: Verify materials, hierarchy, animation, cameras, and timing rather than relying on a format name alone.
- AI input type: Confirm whether the generator accepts editable 3D data or only rendered references such as images and video.
- Control at handoff: Decide whether first-frame and viewport-video guidance is sufficient, or whether your project depends on direct scene-level control.
- Reference constraints: Check the selected model’s current file types, counts, sizes, duration, dimensions, and aspect ratio before production.
- Dependencies and access: Verify any required converter, application edition, or entitlement for the exact import feature and generation workflow.
The available official documentation establishes Reallusion’s workflow and import features, but it does not provide a neutral head-to-head benchmark of AI video quality or scene-control fidelity. Treat those as separate selection criteria to evaluate for your own project rather than assuming that 3D references guarantee a particular output.
