For a mostly static devotional-music stream, start with 1080p at 30 fps using H.264, CBR, and about 8–10 Mbps video bitrate—provided your upload connection can sustain it with headroom. That 8–10 Mbps range is a practical starting inference, not a YouTube rule for devotional music: YouTube’s live-ingestion table lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended for H.264 at 1080p30. If your connection is less reliable or has limited upload capacity, try 720p30 at about 4–6 Mbps and test before relying on it for a continuous stream.
Choose a starting bitrate by resolution and motion
For devotional music with a still image, lyrics, or a slowly changing visual, 30 fps is usually a sensible starting choice. A higher frame rate is more useful when the visual layer has movement that benefits from it; it also raises the recommended ingest bitrate at 1080p.

| Live video setting | YouTube H.264 live-ingestion guidance | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended | Lower upload demand. About 4–6 Mbps is an inferred starting range for a mostly static music stream when the connection cannot reliably sustain a higher setting. |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps minimum; 14 Mbps recommended | More visual detail. About 8–10 Mbps is an inferred starting range for a mostly static music stream, if upload capacity allows. |
| 720p60 | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended | Consider 60 fps when the visual layer has motion that benefits from it. |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps minimum; 17 Mbps recommended | Higher detail and smoother motion, with greater upload demand than 1080p30. |
The figures in the guidance column are YouTube’s live-stream ingestion recommendations for H.264, checked in 2026—not its separate recommendations for uploaded videos. YouTube’s table varies by ingest codec, resolution, and frame rate; it also provides ranges for AV1 and H.265/HEVC. If you use either codec, check the current YouTube live encoder settings and bitrate table rather than applying H.264 figures to it.

Check upload capacity before choosing
Bitrate is only one part of stream reliability. The total stream bitrate must fit within the available upload bandwidth. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom; a connection that barely matches the encoder setting leaves little room for variation. Judge the connection by reliable upload capacity, not download speed or a single speed-test result. YouTube notes that connection disruptions can break a stream.
- If your upload connection cannot reliably carry the planned bitrate with headroom, reduce the bitrate or step down from 1080p30 to 720p30.
- Do not select a bitrate just because it is below the result of one speed test. Check that upload performance remains stable over time.
- If you send primary and backup streams, account for the bandwidth used by both and still leave the recommended margin.
Set the encoder for YouTube live ingestion
Use the live encoder settings that match your chosen resolution and frame rate. YouTube’s current live guide supports RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1, up to 60 fps. For a straightforward starting configuration, use H.264 with CBR and a two-second keyframe interval.

- Dual-band Wi-Fi with 5 GHz speeds up to 867 Mbps and 2.4 GHz speeds up to 300 Mbps, delivering 1200 Mbps of total bandwidth¹. Dual-band routers do not support 6 GHz. Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- Covers up to 1,000 sq. ft. with four external antennas for stable wireless connections and optimal coverage.
- Supports IGMP Proxy/Snooping, Bridge and Tag VLAN to optimize IPTV streaming
- Access Point Mode - Supports AP Mode to transform your wired connection into wireless network, an ideal wireless router for home
- Advanced Security with WPA3 - The latest Wi-Fi security protocol, WPA3, brings new capabilities to improve cybersecurity in personal networks
- Bitrate encoding: CBR.
- Keyframe interval: two seconds recommended; do not exceed four seconds.
- Audio: AAC or MP3 for stereo; YouTube lists 128 kbps audio bitrate.
- Ingest protocol: RTMPS is recommended by YouTube.
These values are YouTube live-ingestion guidance, not a guarantee that any particular encoder, computer, or internet connection will remain stable indefinitely. YouTube automatically transcodes incoming live video into output formats for different devices and networks; that does not remove the need to send a stable stream at the selected ingest settings.
Test the stream before leaving it on
- Set resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate. Start with 1080p30 at an inferred 8–10 Mbps if the connection has sufficient stable upload capacity, or try 720p30 at an inferred 4–6 Mbps if it does not.
- Configure CBR, a two-second keyframe interval, and audio. Use stereo AAC or MP3 at 128 kbps, and choose RTMPS where available.
- Test with representative audio and visuals. Include the kind of sound and movement the intended devotional stream will actually use. YouTube advises, “Make sure that you test before you start your live stream.”
- Check YouTube stream health and encoder messages. Watch for warnings or interruptions rather than assuming a successful start means the stream is healthy.
- Adjust and test again if needed. If the connection struggles, lower the bitrate or resolution and retest instead of operating close to the connection’s limit.
Keep copyright and channel eligibility in view
Bitrate determines how much encoded data the live stream sends; it does not grant permission to broadcast the music. Before streaming devotional recordings, confirm that you have the necessary rights to the compositions and recordings, including any background tracks or performances. A devotional or religious purpose does not by itself make copyrighted material safe to use. Review YouTube’s current live-stream rules and rights guidance for your channel and content before starting a continuous broadcast.

Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a home computer or connection to keep the stream running, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud; it does not go live from a camera.
Nothing has to stay on at home. StreamNeo streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it does not re-encode or separate quality into tiers. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month.
