The right Tresorit alternative depends on what you need it to do: protect personal files, share sensitive files with outside collaborators, or give an organization administrative and compliance controls. Proton Drive is a plausible option for encrypted personal storage and controlled sharing; Sync.com is another candidate to investigate. The available product details do not support a definitive winner or a current price ranking, so compare services against your requirements rather than a generic “secure cloud storage” label.
What Tresorit offers as a baseline
Tresorit presents SecureCloud as end-to-end encrypted cloud storage and file sharing, with separate offerings for business, private use, and secure data-room workflows. The company says files and relevant metadata are encrypted on users’ devices with unique keys, which it says are not sent to its servers unencrypted. It also describes zero-knowledge authentication, client-side integrity protection, cryptographic key sharing, and handling under Swiss privacy law. These are Tresorit’s own descriptions of its security model, not independent verification. Tresorit’s security overview explains its claims.

Its product lineup reflects different use cases: SecureCloud for Private Use is positioned for personal files, documents, and family photos; SecureCloud for Business targets organizational storage and sharing; and Engage for Business is described as encrypted data rooms for workflows such as onboarding through sign-off. Tresorit’s product page outlines these offerings.

Tresorit lists policy templates for two-step verification, IP filtering, timeout policies, allowed devices, and sharing policies. It also describes Advanced Control features for revoking access from lost or stolen devices and resetting user passwords. Other listed capabilities include SSO integration with Azure AD and Okta, granular permissions, secure external collaboration, reporting, restoration of versions and deleted files, and Outlook and Active Directory integrations. If your organization relies on any of these, check whether an alternative provides the same control in the plan and workflow you would actually use.

Which alternatives are worth shortlisting?
Proton Drive for personal storage and controlled sharing
Proton describes Drive as end-to-end encrypted storage that can be accessed by the user and chosen recipients. Its page lists password-protected sharing links with expiry dates, desktop syncing, automatic mobile photo backups, collaborative albums, and apps for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and the web. Those features make it a reasonable candidate when personal storage, cross-device access, and controlled links are priorities. They do not establish parity with Tresorit’s listed business administration, integrations, or data-room workflows. See Proton Drive’s product page for its current description.
Sync.com as a candidate for further evaluation
Sync.com’s official landing page identifies its service as secure cloud storage and internet storage. The product information available here does not establish enough detail to compare its current encryption mechanics, quotas, pricing, or business features rigorously. Treat it as a shortlist candidate, then verify the specific features and plan details you need directly on Sync.com’s site.

Compare services against your actual requirements
Use these questions to distinguish a genuine fit from a broad security claim. For each provider, verify answers for the exact plan, region, and workflow under consideration.
- Encryption and key access: Are files and metadata protected end-to-end? Where are keys handled, and can the provider access plaintext? Tresorit and Proton describe end-to-end encryption on their official pages; compare the stated scope and implementation rather than treating the label alone as proof of equivalent protection.
- Sharing and collaboration: Do you need password-protected or expiring links, revocation, granular permissions, outside collaboration, co-editing, or data rooms? Tresorit documents revocable access and business collaboration and data-room offerings; Proton lists password-protected and expiring sharing links.
- Administration: For a team, check SSO, device restrictions, policy templates, reporting or audit capabilities, and account recovery. Tresorit lists several of these controls; equivalent features for alternatives should be confirmed rather than assumed.
- Compliance and residency: Identify the certification, data-residency location, contract terms, DPA or BAA, and workflow requirements that apply to your organization. A vendor’s compliance support is not a legal guarantee that a particular plan or deployment meets your obligations.
- Platforms and workflow: Confirm that everyone can use the required desktop, mobile, and web clients, and check integrations and team-editing needs. Proton lists Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and web access; Tresorit lists Microsoft, Gmail, Outlook, and directory integrations.
- Total cost: Compare the region-specific price for your billing term, number of users, and storage needs, plus file limits, add-ons, migration, and administration costs. Current comparable pricing was not established for these candidates, so there is no supported price winner here.
How to assess business security and compliance claims
Tresorit says it holds ISO 27001:2022 certification audited by TÜV Rheinland and publishes GDPR-related materials. It also describes HIPAA-related services, including signing Business Associate Agreements with customers seeking HIPAA compliance. These are vendor statements; they do not establish that every plan, contract, or workflow meets a particular organization’s legal requirements. Confirm the exact service, contractual commitments, and operational process with the vendor, and consult qualified counsel where needed. Tresorit’s security page is the source for its published statements.

What the available evidence does—and does not—support
The official product descriptions support a practical shortlist: Proton Drive for encrypted personal storage, cross-device access, and controlled sharing; Sync.com for further investigation; and Tresorit as a benchmark when business controls or data-room workflows matter. They do not establish a comprehensive ranking, feature parity across business plans, or a price winner. Product Hunt has a Tresorit listing, but the listing details available here do not substantiate a current score, review count, launch date, or ranking; its title alone is not evidence of product quality. The Product Hunt listing can be checked for its current details.
