Choose a travel eSIM for a Galaxy S23 only after checking that your exact phone can use eSIM and is unlocked. Then compare plans for every destination on your itinerary by network, data and validity, hotspot rules, voice/SMS features, and activation instructions. The S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra are listed as eSIM-capable by Samsung, but availability can vary by country, carrier and device origin.
Check whether your Galaxy S23 can use an eSIM
Samsung lists the Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra among eSIM-capable devices, but the model name alone does not guarantee support. - On the phone, open Settings > Connections > SIM manager and look for Add eSIM.
- Confirm the exact model and region of your phone if you are unsure which variant you have.
- Ask the original carrier whether the phone is unlocked. A locked phone may reject another provider’s eSIM even if the hardware supports eSIM.
Airalo likewise says its service requires a compatible device without a carrier or network lock and cautions that regional models may differ; check its device and setup help for your specific phone and plan.
Compare the exact plan against your itinerary
Coverage labels are not enough to choose a plan. Check each country you will visit, the local partner network or networks, and whether the package is country-specific, regional or global. Then compare the package terms that determine whether it will actually suit your trip.

Decide how you will handle calls, texts and your regular number
Many travel eSIMs are intended to provide mobile data rather than a local number or traditional voice and SMS. Check the individual package rather than assuming that every plan from a provider includes the same features.

If you need your usual number for calls or two-factor messages, decide whether to keep your primary SIM active while setting the travel eSIM as the data line. Ubigi describes using its travel data plans while retaining a primary provider for traditional calls and SMS; Holafly describes a similar split between the travel eSIM for data and the other SIM for calls and texts. Check your home carrier’s roaming charges before leaving its line active.
Install the eSIM with an internet connection available
Samsung’s documented route is Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM. Depending on the carrier, setup may be offered through simple setup, a QR-code scan or manual entry of an activation code. Samsung says an internet connection is needed to download the eSIM profile.

- After installation, follow the provider’s instructions for selecting the travel line for mobile data at your destination.
Do not assume one mobile-data or data-roaming setting applies to every travel eSIM. Follow the selected provider’s directions, and check how leaving your home line on may affect roaming charges.
