It is the one whose exact configuration has the ports, display support, network connection, power arrangement, mounting hardware, and included accessories your setting requires. Start with where the computer will live, then verify the precise SKU and regional specification sheet before buying.
Choose by setting first
A tiny PC can sit behind a monitor, replace a conventional desktop, connect to a television, or travel between workspaces. Those jobs impose different constraints. A desk setup usually prioritizes port access, networking, and mounting. A home-theater setup depends on the right HDMI path, audio arrangement, and reliable network connection. Travel adds the weight and bulk of the power adapter, cables, and regional plug to the computer itself.

Use this order when comparing candidates:
- Define the destination. Decide whether the computer will stay on a desk, remain connected to a TV, or move regularly.
- List every connection. Count monitors or televisions, keyboard and mouse, storage, webcam, speakers or receiver, Ethernet, and any specialized peripherals.
- Check the exact configuration. A product family can have different processors, memory, storage, ports, power supplies, and accessories by SKU or region.
- Account for the whole kit. Include the chassis, adapter, AC cord, HDMI or USB-C cables, mounting bracket, and any travel case in your space and weight calculations.
- Confirm software and display requirements. Verify the operating system, installed memory and storage, display inputs, supported refresh mode, and the applications you actually intend to run.
Manufacturer specifications are the dependable starting point, but they are not a performance test. The examples below are specifications published by ASUS; they illustrate how to read a listing rather than establish that one model is best for every use.

Chassis footprint and weight
Measure the place where the computer will sit, including clearance for ventilation and for inserting cables. A nominally tiny box may need more room once a stiff HDMI lead, power connector, or USB device is attached. For travel, weigh the adapter and cord separately; the computer’s listed mass is only part of what goes into your bag.

ASUS lists the ExpertCenter PN52 at 120 × 130 × 58 mm and 0.75 kg. The ExpertCenter PN53 specification page lists the same 120 × 130 × 58 mm chassis dimensions. The ASUS NUC 15 Pro page lists several chassis dimensions and weights that vary by configuration, so there is no single NUC 15 Pro size to apply to every listing.
Processor, memory, storage, and operating system
Do not infer capability from the word “mini.” Identify the processor generation, installed memory, storage type and capacity, and operating system in the exact listing. A bare or configurable system may require you to add memory, storage, or an operating system before it is usable. The PN53 UK specification page, for example, describes a shipment configuration in which storage is not included and notes that options vary.
Match memory and storage to the workload rather than chasing the smallest enclosure. Office work, browser tabs, and remote-desktop sessions have different needs from local media libraries, creative applications, or virtual machines. If the listing does not state a component, treat it as unknown and confirm with the seller or manufacturer before purchase.
Display outputs
Count the outputs and match them to the inputs on your monitor, television, receiver, or dock. HDMI is common, but the connector alone does not prove a particular resolution, refresh rate, audio format, or application compatibility. Check the output standard and the display’s requirements together.
ASUS lists HDMI outputs on the cited PN52, PN53, and NUC 15 Pro specifications. The PN53 UK page specifies two HDMI 2.1 ports supporting up to 4K at 60 Hz and also lists USB4 Type-C with DisplayPort output. The NUC 15 Pro page lists HDMI 2.1 and Thunderbolt 4. PN52 output details are configuration-dependent, so verify the SKU rather than assuming every PN52 has the same arrangement.
USB and peripheral ports
Make a physical inventory of the devices you will connect at the same time. Include keyboard, mouse, webcam, external drive, card reader, printer, game controller, and any receiver or adapter. USB-A remains useful for older peripherals; USB-C can carry data, video, or power, but those functions are not interchangeable on every port. A port described as USB4 with DisplayPort output is different from a USB-C data port with no video function.
Manufacturers may call some ports configurable. That means the connector arrangement can change with the selected build or regional SKU. Read the port diagram for the exact part number and leave room for right-angle or oversized plugs if the computer will be mounted behind a screen.

Networking
Decide whether you will use Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or both. Wired networking can simplify a stationary desk or theater installation, while travel may depend entirely on the local wireless network. A 2.5-gigabit Ethernet port is useful only when the rest of the network and your service can take advantage of it; it remains backward-compatible with slower wired equipment, but the tiny PC cannot make an internet connection faster than the network path.
The PN52 and PN53 specifications list 2.5 Gb Ethernet. Confirm the wireless standard, antenna arrangement, and included adapters in the specific configuration if wireless performance matters, because the cited specifications do not establish a universal wireless feature set for every SKU.
Power input and adapter
Power is one of the most commonly missed differences between tiny PCs. Check the required voltage, connector, wattage, and whether the computer accepts USB-C Power Delivery. USB-C is a connector shape, not a guarantee that a phone, laptop, or travel charger can run the computer. Use only a supply that the exact model supports.
ASUS lists a 120 W power adapter for the PN52 and a 150 W supply for the PN53. Those figures describe the listed products, not a universal requirement for all tiny PCs. The NUC 15 Pro page lists different adapters by configuration. Choose a replacement or travel supply only after matching the model’s input specification and the adapter’s regional certification.
Mounting and service access
A VESA mount can attach a tiny PC to the rear of a compatible monitor or television, freeing desk space and hiding cables. Check the display’s VESA pattern, weight limit, and ventilation clearance. Mounting can also make the power button and ports difficult to reach, so plan cable routing before installation.
ASUS lists the PN52 and PN53 VESA mounts as optional. The NUC 15 Pro page lists a VESA bracket and screws among its accessories. Do not assume a bracket is included merely because mounting holes exist; confirm the contents of the exact box.
Best priorities for a desk setup
Start with the workspace geometry
Measure the shelf, monitor stand, or under-desk location in three dimensions. Allow space for airflow and for unplugging cables. If you intend to mount the computer behind a display, check that the bracket will not block vents or collide with the stand. A 120 × 130 × 58 mm chassis still needs a cable bend radius and access to the power button.

Easily configure it into software routers, hardware firewalls (pfSense, OpnSense), home NAS servers, or local homelabs.
Plan the port layout
Place frequently removed accessories on the easiest-to-reach side. If the computer will remain under a desk, a short USB extension or hub may be more practical than reaching behind the chassis. Confirm that the selected configuration has enough USB-A and USB-C ports without relying on a hub for devices that need high bandwidth or independent display outputs.

Use Ethernet when the desk location has a cable and you want a stable connection for large file transfers, remote work, or a local server. If the computer must use Wi-Fi, check antenna placement and avoid trapping the chassis behind metal furniture or a display arm. The presence of 2.5 Gb Ethernet on a specification sheet does not describe your home’s switch, router, or cabling.
Consider mounting as an option, not a requirement
Mounting is worthwhile when a clean surface matters or when the monitor has no useful stand area. Keeping the computer on the desk is easier for service and for adding drives or peripherals. Compare the price and availability of the bracket with the value of the freed space; optional accessories can differ by market.
Best priorities for a home-theater setup
Map the signal chain
Draw the actual path: tiny PC to television, or tiny PC to an AV receiver and then to the television. The PC’s output, the receiver’s input, the cable, and the display must all support the mode you plan to use. A listed HDMI connector confirms physical connectivity, not that every application, copy-protection system, audio format, or refresh mode will work.
The PN53 listing specifies HDMI 2.1 and up to 4K at 60 Hz on two HDMI ports. The NUC 15 Pro listing includes HDMI 2.1. The cited specifications do not constitute an independent test of streaming services, playback quality, fan noise, or receiver compatibility. Check the television and receiver manuals for their supported combinations.

Decide where audio will be handled
For television speakers, route audio over the same display connection if the operating system and display support it. For a receiver or soundbar, verify which device should receive the HDMI signal and whether the receiver supports the desired video mode. If you plan to use a separate USB audio interface or analog output, include that device in the port count; do not assume every tiny PC has a headphone jack or optical output.
Choose the network connection before hiding the box
Streaming and network libraries require a dependable connection. Ethernet is often simpler when the TV cabinet has a network socket. Wi-Fi may be the only practical choice, but the cabinet, wall, and nearby radio devices can affect it. Test the planned location before fastening the PC behind the television, and leave enough clearance for ventilation.

Keep the remote-use case in mind
A theater PC is often operated without a desk. Confirm that the operating system supports your remote, keyboard, or controller, and that the power button and recovery options remain accessible. If the computer is VESA-mounted, route cables so that a failed HDMI lead or power adapter can be replaced without removing the entire display.
Best priorities for a travel setup
Pack the complete system, not just the chassis
Create a packing list containing the PC, power adapter, AC cord, display cable, input devices, network adapter if needed, and any security or storage accessories. Weigh that complete kit. A small chassis can be convenient while its large adapter and regional cord consume most of the space saved.
The ASUS NUC 15 Pro information says power cords are region-specific and may be omitted from some SKUs. Confirm whether the cord is included for the country where you will use the computer, and buy a compliant replacement before departure if it is not.
Verify power at the destination
Check the local mains voltage, plug format, and the adapter’s input range. Do not substitute a USB-C charger simply because the computer has a USB-C connector. The PN53 specification identifies USB4 Type-C with DisplayPort output and power-delivery input, but USB-C power remains model-specific; the required supply and negotiation capability must match the exact unit.
Plan for an unknown display
Travel may mean using a hotel television, conference-room monitor, or borrowed screen. Carry the cable type that matches your PC’s output and the displays you are likely to encounter, and consider a compact, compatible adapter only after confirming that it supports the required video mode. HDMI availability helps, but it does not guarantee that every display accepts the same resolution or refresh rate.
Protect the connectors and data
Use a padded case with separate compartments for the adapter and computer so the plug cannot press into a port. Keep a backup of important files before travel and use a screen lock or full-disk encryption supported by your operating system. These precautions are independent of chassis size and matter more when the computer is frequently moved.

A step-by-step buying checklist
- Write the use case in one sentence. For example: “Behind a 4K television with Ethernet and receiver audio,” or “Portable office computer with an unknown HDMI monitor.”
- Measure the physical location. Record maximum width, depth, height, ventilation clearance, and the space needed for cable bends.
- List required outputs. Include every monitor or TV, the receiver, and any USB-C display connection. Match connector type and stated display capability.
- List simultaneous peripherals. Count USB-A, USB-C, storage, webcam, keyboard, mouse, controller, and adapters. Compare that list with the exact port diagram.
- Choose networking. Decide between Ethernet and Wi-Fi, then verify that the selected configuration includes the required interface. A 2.5 Gb Ethernet port is useful only if your network path supports it.
- Confirm the power specification. Match input requirements to the supplied adapter. If using USB-C Power Delivery, verify that the model explicitly supports it and that the charger meets the required profile.
- Check the box contents. Look for the AC cord, adapter, VESA bracket, screws, and any display cable. Treat optional or region-dependent accessories as absent until the listing says otherwise.
- Verify installed components. Confirm processor, memory, storage, operating system, and upgrade options. If storage is not listed, ask whether the unit is bare or configured.
- Validate the complete kit. For travel, weigh the PC, adapter, cords, and peripherals together. For a mounted installation, confirm ventilation and service access with all cables attached.
- Save the exact product record. Keep the SKU, regional page, adapter rating, and accessory list. This makes replacement and warranty questions much easier when several configurations share a product name.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Buying by dimensions alone
Dimensions do not tell you whether the computer has the needed display output, memory, storage, wireless interface, or power input. Compare the full configuration and the accessories that make it usable.
Assuming every USB-C port can power the PC
USB-C power input is model-specific. A charger that powers a phone or laptop may not meet the tiny PC’s voltage, wattage, or Power Delivery requirements. Use the manufacturer’s stated supply unless the exact model explicitly allows another arrangement.
Assuming HDMI guarantees a perfect theater experience
HDMI establishes a connector and, when specified, a capability such as HDMI 2.1 or up to 4K at 60 Hz. It does not prove that a particular streaming application, receiver, cable, display, or audio path will behave as you expect. Verify the entire signal chain.
Forgetting the regional power cord
A missing or incompatible cord can make a new computer unusable on arrival. The NUC 15 Pro listing specifically notes region-specific cords and omissions on some SKUs. Read the regional box contents rather than relying on a photograph.
Treating an optional VESA mount as included
The PN52 and PN53 list VESA mounts as optional, while the NUC 15 Pro lists a bracket and screws among accessories. Confirm the package contents and the display’s VESA pattern before planning a behind-screen installation.
Using a retailer’s generic specification
Retail pages sometimes merge information from multiple variants. When a port, weight, adapter, or storage detail conflicts, use the manufacturer’s page for the exact SKU and region, then ask the retailer to confirm the item being shipped.
Decision examples
Permanent desk with two displays
Prioritize the exact number and type of display outputs, then count USB ports for input devices and storage. Ethernet may be preferable if the desk is wired. A VESA bracket is useful when the monitor supports it, but keep service access in mind if you frequently swap peripherals.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Television cabinet with a receiver
Map the HDMI path through the receiver, confirm the television and receiver support the intended mode, and choose a network connection that works inside the cabinet. Do not use the PN53’s stated 4K-at-60-Hz capability as a promise that every application or receiver will deliver that mode.
Computer carried between offices
Compare complete-kit weight, not chassis weight. Confirm the local plug and cord, carry a compatible display cable, and select a configuration with enough built-in ports to avoid losing adapters. If considering USB-C charging, verify the exact Power Delivery requirement first.
When to reject a candidate
- The listing does not identify the exact SKU or regional configuration.
- The required display output, network interface, or peripheral port is not stated.
- Memory, storage, or the operating system is absent from a supposedly ready-to-use listing.
- The adapter rating or USB-C power requirement cannot be confirmed.
- The advertised VESA hardware is optional, unavailable, or incompatible with your display.
- The total travel kit exceeds your practical weight or cable limit even though the chassis fits.
Final selection rule
Choose the smallest complete system that satisfies your setting, not the smallest bare computer. For a desk, make ports, networking, mounting, and service access fit the workspace. For a home theater, validate the entire HDMI, audio, display, and network chain. For travel, include the adapter, cord, cables, and display uncertainty in the calculation. Manufacturer examples such as the PN52, PN53, and NUC 15 Pro show why dimensions and connector names must be read alongside the exact power, configuration, and accessory details for your region.
