These are separate tests: a low fee does not guarantee inexpensive trades or close tracking. The available evidence does not establish a current overall winner.
“Bitcoin ETF” is the familiar shorthand; SEC materials describe these products as spot bitcoin exchange-traded products (ETPs). They provide exposure through securities trading, not direct ownership of bitcoin.

What a spot Bitcoin ETP share represents
SEC-filed materials describe spot bitcoin ETPs as funds that purchase and hold bitcoin and issue shares representing a fractional beneficial interest in the product’s net assets. A share’s value is affected by the bitcoin held, as well as fund expenses and liabilities. The share trades as a security, so its market price can differ from the fund’s NAV.

Compare the costs you will actually face
Annual expense ratio and current net fee
Start with each product’s current prospectus. Record the stated annual expense ratio, the net charge after any waiver, the waiver’s conditions, and its expiration date. A temporary waiver can make a product’s current cost lower than its stated ongoing fee, but the lower rate may not last.
For example, Invesco Galaxy Bitcoin ETF’s Form 10-Q for the period ended June 30, 2024 described a 0.25% annual sponsor fee and a six-month waiver on the first $5 billion of assets beginning January 11, 2024. Trading costs are separate from fund fees
The expense ratio does not include every cost an investor may incur when buying or selling shares. The bid-ask spread—the difference between the best quoted buying and selling prices—can affect execution. Compare spreads alongside dollar trading volume, and consider the time of day and order size relevant to your trade. High volume alone does not tell you the spread you will face.

Assess liquidity and price versus NAV
Use volume and spreads as a pair

As another historical reference, Strategy Inc. reported $4.6 billion in trading volume on January 11, 2024, the first trading day for spot bitcoin ETPs, in its 2025 Form 10-Q. Check premium or discount to NAV
Compare the market price with NAV using the same date and, where available, the same observation time. A share trading above NAV is at a premium; below NAV, at a discount. SEC-filed risk disclosures explain that disruption or difficulty in creating and redeeming shares can impair arbitrage—the process that can help keep market price near NAV—and allow a divergence to persist. Measure tracking against a consistent Bitcoin reference
To evaluate how closely a product followed bitcoin, compare its NAV total return with a named bitcoin reference over exactly the same start and end dates. State the return convention and benchmark so the comparison can be reproduced. Comparing a fund’s market-price return with a benchmark, or using different measurement periods, can mix tracking with trading-price effects.

A practical comparison checklist
- Confirm the product terms: Read the current prospectus for the expense ratio, net fee, waiver conditions and end date, and product-specific disclosures.
- Compare trading conditions: Review dollar volume and bid-ask spread over the same stated window; account for your likely trade size and timing.
- Check price against NAV: Compare premium or discount readings from a consistent date and time.
- Check tracking on matching dates: Compare NAV total return with a named bitcoin reference using the same period and return convention.
- Verify brokerage access and order controls: Check whether your brokerage offers the ticker and what fees and order options apply.
Keep the underlying risk in view
These comparisons address product costs and mechanics, not whether Bitcoin exposure fits an investor’s circumstances.
