A reported loss in Samsung’s mobile-related businesses is not, by itself, a reason to avoid its phones or rush to buy one. Samsung reported an operating loss for its combined Mobile eXperience and Networks businesses in Q2 2026, but also said Galaxy S26 sales and A-series momentum lifted revenue year over year. Choose by the phone’s local price, features, and verified support terms—not by a headline about the company’s quarterly results.
What “struggling” means—and what it doesn’t
Samsung’s Q2 2026 results show pressure on profitability, not evidence that a particular Galaxy phone is a poor purchase. The company reported KRW 33.2 trillion in consolidated revenue and an operating loss of KRW 0.7 trillion for its combined MX and Networks businesses. Those figures cover more than handset sales alone, so they should not be described as a phone-only income statement.

Samsung said revenue grew year over year on solid Galaxy S26 sales and strong Galaxy A-series momentum, while earnings declined because of elevated component costs across the industry. It also said it planned to push flagship sales centered on the new Z8 and S26 series and pursue efficiency measures to mitigate rising costs. That is management’s stated plan—not a guarantee about future models, prices, or availability.
Market share offers a different measure from profit. TechInsights figures reported in Samsung Electronics’ 1Q 2026 interim report put Samsung’s global smartphone unit market share at 21.3% in 1Q 2026, 19.2% in 2025, and 18.3% in 2024. The report also forecast that smartphone demand in 2026 would decrease slightly to the 140-million-unit range as higher component costs pushed average selling prices up. That is Samsung’s forecast, not a confirmed full-year result.

One October 2026 report by Android Central, attributing its information to Korean outlet Money Today, said suppliers had reportedly been asked to cut Q4 smartphone production by 20–30%, with output potentially falling from an earlier expected 270 million toward the 200-million range. Samsung had not confirmed that request in the official material available for this article. It does not establish that a specific Galaxy model will be scarce, and it is not a sound reason to buy before comparing your options.
So, is a Samsung phone still worth buying if the mobile business is under pressure? The quarterly loss alone cannot answer that. It is a measure of reported business performance for a combined segment during one period; it does not tell you whether a particular model has the features, price, warranty, or support you need. Likewise, market-share figures and management plans do not substitute for comparing the phone in front of you with the alternatives available locally.
Start with the phone category, not the company’s headlines
The right first question is whether you want a conventional phone or a foldable. After that, decide which features are worth paying for and set a maximum total price. Samsung’s U.S. catalog accessed in October 2026 listed the models below; this is a U.S. snapshot, not a worldwide lineup. It does not provide a complete, comparable set of live prices and specifications, and availability varies by market.
| Buyer’s starting point | Models listed in Samsung’s U.S. catalog | What to assess |
|---|---|---|
| Conventional flagship | Galaxy S26, S26+, S26 Ultra | Whether you need the particular display, camera or zoom capabilities, storage, and features of a given model. |
| Midrange candidate | Galaxy S26 FE | Its local price and the trade-offs that matter to you; do not assume it is the cheapest or best-value option. |
| Value-tier candidates | Galaxy A57 5G, A37 5G, A27 5G, A17 5G | Exact local price, storage, warranty, and support compared with discounted S-series phones. |
| Foldable format | Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Flip8 | Whether you specifically want a folding-screen design and will use its format or multitasking enough to justify the price. |
A catalog listing confirms that Samsung presents these as current U.S. choices; it does not prove which one is the best deal. Compare the exact model and configuration you can actually buy in your country.
That regional check matters even if two phones carry the same family name. Catalogs, model numbers, configurations, prices, carrier compatibility, and warranty or support terms can vary by country. Treat the listed U.S. phones as examples of the lineup, not a promise that every name or configuration is sold where you live. Before ordering, confirm that the retailer is selling the regional model you intend to use and that it works with your carrier.
Decide what you will pay before comparing models
Set a maximum total cost after considering trade-in value and carrier terms. Compare unlocked and financed offers on equal terms: a monthly payment alone can obscure the full price, conditions, or length of a commitment. Check whether an offer depends on a qualifying plan, a new line, or a trade-in, and compare the resulting total with an unlocked price.
Samsung’s U.S. announcement listed these S26-family starting prices when the phones launched. They are historical U.S. launch prices, not guaranteed October 2026 street prices or prices in other countries.

| Model | U.S. launch starting price | Storage listed at U.S. launch |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 | $899.99 | 256GB, 512GB |
| Galaxy S26+ | $1,099.99 | 256GB, 512GB |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | $1,299.99 | 256GB, 512GB, 1TB |
Associated Press coverage rounded those launch prices to $899, $1,099, and $1,299. AP reported that the base and mid-tier launch prices rose while the Ultra held its price against the prior generation. The rounded amounts are AP’s presentation; Samsung’s announcement gives the exact starting prices above. Neither source establishes what a retailer charges now.
If you do not want to spend $1,000 or more on a smartphone, do not assume the Ultra is the only phone worth considering—or that a particular A-series model will automatically be the right bargain. First establish a hard ceiling, then compare actual offers for the standard S26, A-series models, and discounted older S-series phones that are sold in your market. The available price information does not settle which of those choices will cost least today.
When comparing an advertised discount, work out the total you would pay under the offer. A trade-in credit depends on the eligible device and the offer’s conditions; a carrier deal may depend on a plan or new line. Compare like with like: the same storage where possible, equivalent unlocked or carrier terms, and the final cost after any required commitment. No current street price or promotion can be assumed from the launch-price list.
Choose among the S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra
Samsung announced the S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra on February 25, 2026, with general availability beginning March 11. The differences in the launch information point to questions to ask yourself, not a universal ranking.

Start with the S26 if its size, configuration, and local price suit you and you do not have a specific reason to move up. Its U.S. launch configurations were 256GB and 512GB. No material here establishes that the S26 is the right choice for every buyer or that its current price is lower than a competing model.
For an upgrade, compare the phone you own with the features you would actually gain from the S26, then check the cost after any trade-in. A newer model name alone does not establish that the upgrade is worthwhile. The relevant question is whether the current local offer and the features you value justify replacing your phone now.
Galaxy S26+: pay for a larger-display tier only if you want it
Consider the S26+ when the larger-display tier is useful enough to justify its price difference in your market. Its listed U.S. launch storage options were also 256GB and 512GB. Compare actual prices for matching storage rather than assuming the launch-price gap remains the same in stores.

Galaxy S26 Ultra: identify the feature that earns the premium
The Ultra’s U.S. launch configurations included 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. Samsung identifies its built-in Privacy Display as an Ultra feature. Samsung’s UK release also highlights Nightography video and a horizontal-lock option for Super Steady. These are manufacturer-described features; decide whether privacy viewing, camera or zoom capability, storage, or the larger-display tier solves a real need for you. If it does not, do not make the Ultra your default.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The higher launch starting price is a useful reminder to ask what you are paying for, but it is not a current price comparison. If you need 1TB, value the Privacy Display, or expect to use the camera and video capabilities highlighted by Samsung, compare the Ultra’s actual local price with the lower-tier models. If none of those features matters to you, compare the standard S26 and S26+ first instead of treating the top model as the default upgrade.
Samsung CEO, President, and Head of Device eXperience Division TM Roh described the S26 series’ approach this way: “With the Galaxy S26 series, we focused on making AI feel effortless, working quietly in the background so people can focus on what matters.” That is Samsung’s product-design statement, not independent evidence that the AI features will be useful to you. Judge them by the specific functions you expect to use, rather than the marketing description.
Compare A-series phones with discounted older flagships
The A-series is a candidate value tier, not an automatic bargain. Compare an A57, A37, A27, or A17 available to you against an older discounted S-series phone at the same total price. The available information does not establish a winner across markets or models, so base the comparison on the exact local offers and configurations.
- Match storage as closely as possible; a lower price may come with a different configuration.
- Check whether an older flagship is new, refurbished, or used, and compare warranty and return terms.
- For a used or refurbished phone, confirm battery condition rather than treating the model name as a guarantee of remaining battery life.
- Check the remaining Android and security update commitment for each exact regional model.
- Compare the price after any promotion or trade-in requirement, not just the headline discount.
Ask what the extra money for an older flagship buys you compared with an A-series option, and whether those differences matter enough to you. The catalog identifies the available families, but the material here does not supply a complete, comparable specification table for every model. Check the exact regional listings for the features and configurations you care about instead of assuming that every A-series or S-series phone has the same capabilities.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Samsung’s S26 FE is another model in the U.S. catalog. Android Central’s review reported that its reviewer found trade-offs including a display reused from recent FE models and slow charging. Those are observations from one independent review, not testing conducted for this article; whether they matter depends on your priorities and the price you find.
For a buyer trying to keep the cost below flagship launch levels, the FE may be worth including in a local comparison, but the catalog alone does not show whether it is cheaper than an A-series phone or a discounted flagship. Look at the actual configuration, current price, and support terms. If charging speed or display differences matter to you, treat the reviewer’s observations as a reason to check more detail, not as a substitute for evaluating the particular phone and offer.

Choose a foldable only if the format is the point
Samsung’s U.S. catalog listed the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8. Treat the Z-series as a form-factor choice rather than assuming either is the best value. Before comparing processors or cameras, ask whether you want a folding-screen phone and will use its flexible-screen format or multitasking. If you prefer a conventional handset, compare S- and A-series options instead of paying for a design you do not need.
Whether a foldable makes financial sense depends on the actual local price and your reasons for choosing it. The available information does not establish a market-wide price advantage, a universal durability conclusion, or a best-value foldable. The fact that Samsung plans to center flagship sales on its new Z8 and S26 lines is a statement of company strategy, not a guarantee of how long a given foldable will remain available.

Verify software support for your exact regional model
Do not treat one update statement as a universal Samsung policy. Samsung’s U.S. S26 announcement says the S26 series receives seven years of security updates. Samsung UK’s S-series buyer guide states three years of Android updates and four years of security updates for the S generations listed there. The statements differ in wording and scope; the available information does not resolve how they apply across every model, market, or set of terms.
Before purchasing, use Samsung’s support information for the exact regional model to check both Android-version updates and security updates. Verify the relevant period and the terms that apply to the phone you are buying, particularly if comparing an older flagship with a newer A-series model.
Keep the two kinds of updates distinct when you compare longevity. An Android-version commitment and a security-update commitment are not interchangeable descriptions, and a statement about one S-series family or region should not be extended to every Galaxy phone. For an older discounted phone, ask how much of the stated support period remains for that specific model. Do not infer from a quarterly operating loss that Samsung will stop supporting a handset; the reported loss does not establish that.

The phone’s sticker price is not the only cost or condition to check. Confirm the return window, warranty, repair coverage, carrier compatibility, and whether the exact model supports your carrier’s bands and eSIM needs. These are checks to make for the specific device and local seller; the catalog snapshot does not resolve them for every country or carrier.

Samsung Care+ may be another ownership-cost option to investigate, but do not assume identical coverage or availability everywhere. Samsung’s UK newsroom release describes availability across 17 European markets and lists accidental-damage coverage, unlimited repairs, walk-in service, extended warranty, and theft/loss protection. Check the local plan’s terms, eligibility, and price before counting any of those benefits in your decision. Availability in that release does not establish that the plan is offered to every buyer, and no partnership or special offer is implied here.

For a used or refurbished device, add the seller’s condition description and return terms to the comparison. These checks can matter as much as a small difference in advertised price.
Use this purchase checklist before placing an order
- Set your ceiling. Write down the maximum total price you will pay after trade-in and carrier conditions, then compare financing and unlocked offers on equivalent terms.
- Choose the form factor. Decide between a conventional phone and a foldable before weighing other specifications.
- Name the features you need. Decide whether you have a concrete need for a compact standard model, a larger display, premium camera or zoom capability, 1TB storage, or the Ultra’s built-in Privacy Display.
- Compare the exact alternatives. Check A-series models against discounted S-series phones using price, storage, condition, warranty, battery state where relevant, and remaining support.
- Confirm regional fit. Check the exact model number, carrier-band and eSIM compatibility, and whether the version is intended for your market.
- Read the purchase terms. Confirm stock, return policy, warranty, repair coverage, and any restrictions on a promotion or trade-in before paying.
- Recheck support. Verify the Android and security update terms for that specific regional model rather than relying on a general family-level claim.
Bottom line on buying while Samsung faces cost pressure
Quarterly profitability can matter to a company, but the reported Q2 figures do not establish that Samsung phones are bad purchases or that support will end. The practical decision is whether a specific Galaxy model, at a specific local price and with verified terms, matches your needs. Compare the standard S26 tier with the Ultra only when its features earn the premium, weigh A-series phones against discounted older flagships, and choose a foldable only when you want its format.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Samsung phone should I buy in 2026?
Start with your budget and preferred format, then compare exact local models and prices. The U.S. catalog accessed in October 2026 listed the S26 family, S26 FE, A57/A37/A27/A17, and Fold8/Flip8, but that is not a worldwide lineup or price comparison. Choose an S26 tier for the features you need, compare A-series phones with discounted older flagships, and consider a Z-series foldable when you specifically want its format.
Recommended Free Tools
Is a Samsung phone still worth buying if the mobile business is under pressure?
A reported Q2 2026 operating loss of KRW 0.7 trillion covered Samsung’s combined MX and Networks businesses, not handset sales alone. Samsung also reported year-over-year revenue growth on S26 sales and A-series momentum. Those results do not establish that a particular phone is good or bad value; judge the model, local price, support, and terms.
I don’t want to spend $1,000 or more. What should I compare?
Compare actual local offers for the standard S26, A-series models, the S26 FE, and discounted older S-series phones. The S26’s U.S. launch starting price was $899.99, but that is a historical launch price, not a current street price. Check storage, warranty, condition, battery state for used or refurbished devices, and remaining support before deciding.
How many years of updates will my Galaxy get?
Check Samsung’s support information for the exact regional model. Samsung’s U.S. S26 announcement says seven years of security updates, while Samsung UK’s S-series buyer guide states three years of Android updates and four years of security updates for the generations it lists. Those statements differ in wording and scope, so do not assume one universal commitment.
Should I buy a Galaxy now because Samsung may cut production?
No purchase deadline follows from the unconfirmed report. Android Central attributed a report to Money Today that suppliers had reportedly been asked to reduce Q4 2026 smartphone production by 20–30%; Samsung had not confirmed the request in the official material reviewed. It does not prove that a particular Galaxy model will be scarce. Compare local stock, price, and terms before deciding.
What should I check before buying a Galaxy from another country or a carrier?
Verify the exact regional model number, carrier-band and eSIM compatibility, local price, stock, warranty, return policy, repair coverage, and support terms. Also check whether a carrier price depends on a qualifying plan, new line, trade-in, or other condition, and compare its full cost with an unlocked offer.
The Bottom Line
Choose a Samsung phone by its local price, features, form factor, and verified regional support—not by the Q2 loss or an unconfirmed production report. Compare the standard S26 tiers before paying extra for Ultra features, weigh A-series options against discounted flagships, and buy a foldable only if you want the format.
