Tile and marble are usually straightforward; raised sills, rug edges, loose fringe and dried spills need closer scrutiny. A robot mop is best treated as a light-maintenance wipe, not a replacement for scrubbing.
Start with the surfaces and obstacles in your home
Walk through the rooms the robot would clean and note each floor type, rug and transition. Tile, marble and similar hard flooring are generally simple surfaces for routine vacuuming. The harder questions are whether the robot can cross the tallest threshold, negotiate a rug edge, avoid loose fringe and clean a room without catching on movable objects. Haier India specifically flags mixed flooring and raised thresholds as considerations in Indian homes (Haier India’s buyer guide).

- Measure the highest sill or threshold and the thickest rug edge; do not assume the robot can cross them based on appearance.
- Note rugs with fringe, loose corners or layered edges, which may snag or impede a robot.
- Photograph difficult transitions so you can check them against the exact model’s stated clearance and instructions.
- Consider whether the robot can reach the rooms you want cleaned, including around furniture and other obstacles.
There is no universal threshold number that guarantees a robot will work in every home. Compare the measured obstacle with the specific model’s published limit and operating guidance.
Decide whether you need vacuuming, mopping, or both
Routine vacuuming
Scheduled vacuuming can help manage everyday dust and crumbs on hard floors. Whether it is useful for your household depends on the surfaces, obstacles, bin routine and how much hair or debris the brushes collect; no India-wide performance or dust statistic establishes a universal cutoff for choosing a model.

Light damp wiping
Common robot mopping is a damp-cloth wipe suited to light, fresh dirt. NDTV Shopping cautions that it is not suited to dried curry droplets or muddy footprints, so plan to clean stubborn messes manually (NDTV Shopping’s guide to robot vacuums and mops).
Combo models and rugs
If a robot both vacuums and mops, check its instructions for rug detection or avoidance and for separating vacuuming from wet mopping. Do not assume that the mop will lift away from a rug or that every combo model handles floor transitions the same way. A basic mop pad should not be bought as a substitute for deep cleaning.
Match navigation to your floor plan
For a home with several rooms, many obstacles or areas to exclude, compare systematic mapping, room selection and no-go zones with simpler navigation. The useful feature is the one that fits your layout and routine; more controls do not automatically mean a better clean.

Compare the ongoing work, not just the advertised features
A robot still needs regular care. Haier recommends emptying the dustbin, cleaning or replacing filters, removing hair from brushes and wiping sensors. Before choosing a model, look at how accessible those parts are and what its routine requires.
Check local availability and current prices for compatible filters, brushes, mop pads, dust bags if applicable, and batteries. TOQ identifies these as replacement parts whose cost and availability are worth checking (TOQ’s robot-vacuum buying guide). Confirm the exact model number: parts and features can vary across a product family.
Compare the bin-emptying and filter routine, brush access, mop-pad care, warranty and service terms. A dock that washes mop pads or empties dust may reduce manual work, but it may not be worth paying extra if you are comfortable doing those tasks yourself.

Compare shortlisted models against the same checklist
| What to compare | Question to answer |
|---|---|
| Surface fit | Does the model suit your hard floors, rug pile, fringe and loose edges? Can vacuuming and mopping be run separately? |
| Obstacle fit | Does its stated clearance or climbing limit match your measured threshold and rug transitions? |
| Coverage | Do mapping, room selection and no-go zones suit your layout? Is multi-floor map support available if you need it? |
| Cleaning routine | What are the bin and filter tasks, hair-tangling risks, mop type and pad-care requirements? |
| Ownership | Can you get model-compatible filters, brushes, pads, bags and batteries locally? What are the service and warranty terms? |
| Total value | Does the current local price make sense for your needs and the dock features you will actually use? |
Use specifications as a shortlist filter, not a guarantee
Specifications can help rule a model in or out, but they are not proof of performance on your particular floors. For example, Eureka Forbes’ official Smartclean with Home Mapping Pro listing states 5000 Pa suction, LiDAR 3.0 mapping, HEPA filtration and carpet or floor-mat climbing up to 15 mm. These are manufacturer-stated figures, not independent comparisons or a guarantee that the robot will handle every Indian rug or threshold.

It describes dry vacuuming and wet mopping, room zoning and no-go zones as well. Treat this as one example to evaluate against your home, not as an endorsement. Eureka Forbes’ robotic-vacuum category page lists variants with different advertised suction, mopping and dust-disposal arrangements, so compare the exact model number rather than assuming features carry across a product family.
Quick Recap
A practical buying sequence
- List the surfaces in each room, then measure the tallest threshold and thickest rug edge. Photograph difficult transitions.
- Choose the primary job: routine vacuuming, light damp wiping or both. If dried stains and deep scrubbing are the priority, plan to clean those manually.
- Read the exact model’s instructions for rugs, wet mopping, obstacle clearance, map storage and resuming after charging.
- Inspect the dustbin and filter routine, brush access and mop care; check local availability and current prices for compatible replacement parts.
- Compare the model’s India warranty and service terms at checkout, since stock and offers can change.
