What counts as a reMarkable 2 case with a pen holder?
“Pen holder” is used for two different arrangements. An official folio can leave the Marker exposed so it snaps magnetically to the right edge of the tablet. A third-party case can add a physical loop, sleeve or integrated channel that grips the Marker independently of the tablet. Those designs are not equivalent when the case is in a bag.

reMarkable’s official Folios for reMarkable 2 page describes the Book Folio as magnetic and says its built-in magnets hold the tablet in place. It establishes fit and magnetic attachment, but it does not describe a sewn Marker loop. The official Type Folio also leaves room for the Marker to snap onto the tablet’s right side. If you specifically want fabric or elastic retention around the pen, look at a case with a dedicated holder instead.

It also keeps the Marker in the same location you use without a separate pocket. The limitation is equally important: magnetic accommodation is not the same as a stitched or sewn holder. If your tablet will be loose in a crowded backpack, a physical loop may provide more reassurance than relying on the Marker’s edge magnet alone.
Type Folio for reMarkable 2
Type Folio is an official keyboard cover rather than a conventional pen-loop case. reMarkable says it is designed for reMarkable 2 and states: “Just like our Book Folios, the new Type Folio has been designed to leave room for your Marker. It snaps into place on the right side of your reMarkable.” The keyboard adds a typing surface while the cover protects the tablet when closed.

Templacity describes JetTech as a PU-leather folio with a microfiber interior, magnetic closure and a Marker-holder loop on the spine. The spine location keeps the loop aligned with the hinge rather than placing an elastic strap across the front cover.
A spine loop is useful if you want the Marker retained even when the folio is closed. Check how the loop is attached to the specific listing and whether the opening is sized for your Marker version. PU leather can feel different from genuine leather, and the roundup notes material and fit trade-offs. Treat JetTech as a reported budget option, not as a universal recommendation or a durability-tested result.

Fintie: integrated holder with a structured back
The reported Fintie slim-fit folio combines a PU exterior, microfiber interior, hard back panel, magnetic closure, auto sleep/wake and an integrated Marker holder. The hard panel can help the tablet feel less exposed than it would in a soft sleeve, while the microfiber lining is intended to keep the interior surface from rubbing directly against the screen.

Its integrated holder is the key distinction from the official Book Folio. The roundup positions Fintie between budget protection and the official folio, so compare the exact dimensions and closure before buying. Auto sleep/wake behavior depends on the case’s magnets aligning correctly with the tablet; if the tablet does not wake or sleep when you open or close the cover, remove the case and test the device to isolate a magnetic-alignment problem.
MoKo: elastic loop plus two-angle stand
MoKo is described as a magnetic case that folds into a stand at two angles and includes an elastic Marker loop. This is the most utility-focused design of the three reported loop cases: the loop retains the pen, and the folded cover supports hands-free reading or a more upright writing position.
The trade-off is retention at the tablet-to-case connection. Templacity reports that magnetic-only attachment is less secure than clip systems. That does not mean the case will detach in normal use, but it does mean you should inspect the magnetic contact, hold the closed case by its edges and avoid assuming that a stand configuration provides the same security as a mechanically clipped shell. Lab Tech sleeve: a deliberate exception
The reported Lab Tech product is a leather slip sleeve with no Marker holder. It can protect the tablet while you carry the Marker separately in a pencil case or pocket, but it does not satisfy the central requirement of keeping the pen with the tablet. Include it only if you prefer a minimalist sleeve and already have a reliable storage routine for the Marker.

Magnetic placement
Magnetic placement is clean and fast: put the Marker on the reMarkable 2’s right edge and close the cover. It avoids an extra strap and is the arrangement explicitly described for the official Book Folio and Type Folio. The risk is that the pen can be knocked off when the tablet is handled outside the case, especially if another object presses against the edge.

Sewn, integrated or elastic loops
A physical loop surrounds the Marker and remains attached to the case even when the tablet is closed. Spine loops, integrated channels and elastic bands differ in how tightly they grip, how easy they are to insert and whether they can stretch over time. A tight loop can make one-handed removal difficult; a loose loop can allow the pen to slide out when the case is inverted. Look for a holder that sits on the hinge or back cover rather than crossing the writing surface.
Clip or shell retention
A clip-style shell mechanically grips the tablet and is generally more resistant to sliding than magnetic-only attachment. The available product descriptions do not establish a clip-based reMarkable 2 case among the named options, so treat “clip” as a buying criterion to check in a listing rather than as a feature you can assume.
Protection, materials and bulk
Protection is more than the front cover. Check whether the case covers the back panel, wraps the edges and leaves ports and the power button accessible. A folio that protects only the screen may still expose the tablet’s corners when it is placed on a hard surface.

Compatibility checks before you buy
Model confusion is the easiest way to end up with a case that cannot be returned in time for a trip or work deadline. Confirm that the listing names reMarkable 2, not merely “reMarkable.”
- Check the model in your tablet’s settings or on the original packaging.
- Match the listing’s device name to “reMarkable 2” exactly.
- Do not substitute a reMarkable 1 folio. reMarkable states that reMarkable 1 and reMarkable 2 folios are dimensionally incompatible.
- Do not buy a Paper Pro folio for a reMarkable 2. The official Paper Pro Book Folio page says that folio will not fit reMarkable 2.
- Confirm that the case leaves room for your Marker version and does not rely on a holder intended for a different stylus size.
- Check return terms and regional stock, because the secondary roundup’s listing identity and availability can change.
Does the reMarkable 2 need a case?
No. The tablet can be used without a case, and a case adds weight, thickness and cost. A case becomes worthwhile when you regularly carry the tablet between home, work, school or travel, place it in a shared bag, or want the Marker stored with it instead of loose.
Choose no case if the tablet stays on a desk and you can keep the Marker in a dedicated tray. Choose a slim folio if you mainly need scratch protection and magnetic Marker placement. Choose a physical-holder case if losing the Marker would interrupt your work or if the tablet will move around inside a bag. Choose Type Folio only when its keyboard function justifies the additional hardware.

Choose the Book Folio when fit is your first priority
The Book Folio is the clearest choice for readers who want an official reMarkable 2 fit and magnetic tablet retention. It keeps the Marker on the right edge as designed, but it does not provide the dedicated sewn loop some buyers mean by “pen holder.”

Choose Type Folio when you need to type
Type Folio is appropriate for a writing-and-typing workflow. Its Marker accommodation is magnetic, and its defining feature is the keyboard. Buying it solely for pen storage would pay for functions you may not use.
Choose JetTech when you want the simplest reported loop case
JetTech’s reported spine loop and magnetic closure address the physical-holder requirement without adding a keyboard. Verify the exact fit and construction, especially if you carry the tablet daily.
Choose Fintie for a more structured folio
Fintie combines an integrated holder with a hard back panel, microfiber interior and auto sleep/wake. It suits readers who want a physical loop and a firmer folio body, provided the specific listing matches the reMarkable 2.
Choose MoKo when a stand matters
MoKo’s reported two-angle stand and elastic loop are useful for desk viewing, reference reading and angled writing. Balance that convenience against the roundup’s warning that magnetic-only attachment is less secure than clip systems.
Setup and inspection checklist
- Before inserting the tablet, inspect the case for loose stitching, exposed adhesive, bent magnets or debris inside the lining.
- Place the reMarkable 2 into the case without forcing a corner. A correct case should seat evenly on all sides.
- Open and close the cover slowly. Check that the screen is not rubbing against a raised seam or closure edge.
- Attach the Marker magnetically or insert it into the loop, depending on the design. Turn the closed case upside down over a bed or sofa to test retention safely.

Common problems and fixes
The case is listed for reMarkable but does not fit
Recheck the model designation. A reMarkable 1 folio cannot be assumed to fit reMarkable 2, and a Paper Pro folio is explicitly not compatible with reMarkable 2. Contact the seller before modifying the case.

The Marker keeps falling out
First determine whether you are relying on magnetic placement or a physical loop. Clean the tablet’s magnetic edge and the holder opening, then test with the case closed. If an elastic loop is loose on arrival, request a replacement rather than stretching it further.
Sleep/wake behavior is unreliable
Magnetic closures can affect the tablet only when they align correctly. Remove the folio and test the reMarkable 2 bare. If the problem disappears, the case’s magnet placement is the likely cause.
The stand wobbles
Re-fold the cover along its intended creases and place it on a flat surface. If either reported angle still rocks, use the case flat and seek a return; instability is a case problem, not a setting you can correct on the tablet.

The official pages establish reMarkable 2 compatibility for the Book Folio and Type Folio, magnetic tablet retention and the Marker’s right-side attachment. The secondary roundup supplies the reported JetTech, Fintie, MoKo and Lab Tech feature descriptions and its October 3, 2026 update date. It does not establish a universal best case, long-term durability, independently measured weights, current prices, review scores or stock in every country.
