These labels overlap: Trackmania, for example, is tagged Arcade but also emphasizes precision track racing and time attack.
Start with the kind of racing you want
“Sim,” “arcade,” “rally,” and “track racing” are useful ways to describe a game, but they are not four exclusive Steam categories. Steam pages combine publisher descriptions with user-defined tags, so use tags to discover candidates and the listed features to decide whether a game suits you.

Choose a simulation for circuit driving and vehicle behavior
A simulation-style racer suits you if you want to learn how braking, cornering, and vehicle behavior affect a lap. Assetto Corsa Competizione is the circuit-racing example here: Steam describes it as the official GT World Challenge videogame, featuring GT3 championship cars, teams, and circuits. Choose rally for point-to-point stages
Rally is a better fit if you want to tackle stages rather than repeatedly race laps on a circuit. The appeal is handling changing surfaces or conditions, following pace notes, and recovering from mistakes as the route unfolds. Steam lists Assetto Corsa Rally as an Early Access game, released November 13, 2025. Choose arcade-style racing for immediate action and expressive courses
Arcade-style racing often puts accessible action, distinctive courses, stunts, and a lighter presentation up front. It does not necessarily mean low difficulty. Steam tags Trackmania as Arcade, while its description features jumps, loops, wall rides, sharp turns, and drifting alongside leaderboards, medals, and competitive time trials. Choose track racing or time attack to master a course
If you enjoy repeating a route to improve your line, earn a medal, or climb a leaderboard, look for time-attack and track-focused features. Trackmania also fits this choice: Steam lists player-created tracks, weekly Shorts tracks, seasonal campaigns, time attack, and track editors. Its overlap with the Arcade label is a practical reminder to judge a game by what you can do in it, not just its tags.

Compare the features that affect your choice

Check your PC before downloading or buying
Minimum requirements can vary substantially between racers. Steam’s Trackmania requirements list 4 GB of minimum memory, while the Assetto Corsa Rally listing specifies 16 GB. Those figures are the minimum memory requirements shown on the respective Steam pages, accessed October 4, 2026—not a guarantee that every system meeting them will deliver your preferred performance.
For Assetto Corsa Rally, the cited minimum requirements list Windows 10/11, 16 GB RAM, an RTX 2080 or RX 6650 XT, DirectX 12, 50 GB of storage, and an SSD. Because the game is in Early Access, recheck its Steam page for current requirements before purchase. The cited Trackmania page lists 4 GB minimum memory; consult its current requirements section for the rest of the hardware details.

Trackmania offers free starter access and lists features tied to paid 1-Year Club Access. Review the current Steam page for exactly what is included and the current price. Assetto Corsa Rally is marked Early Access on its listing, so check its status and current features as well as its requirements before buying.

Make the choice that fits your setup
- Pick Assetto Corsa Competizione if circuit and GT racing with listed single-player, online PvP, and LAN PvP modes sounds right; its Steam listing also specifies partial controller support.
- Pick Assetto Corsa Rally if stage-based rally and its described co-driver and changing-condition features appeal to you, after checking its Early Access status and hardware requirements.
- Pick Trackmania if you want to combine precise driving with short courses, time trials, leaderboards, or creating tracks—and you are comfortable checking which features are part of free starter access versus paid Club Access.
- Before settling on any option, confirm the current Steam page supports the modes and controls you need and that your PC meets its requirements.
