Which payment method works in your country?
Start at the game or platform’s own checkout. A method accepted by one provider is not automatically accepted by another, even in the same country. Mercado Pago’s developer documentation lists country-specific options for Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay; its list describes Mercado Pago availability, not every game store’s payment menu. Local options documented by Mercado Pago include Pix in Brazil, PSE in Colombia, CLABE/SPEI in Mexico and Yape in Peru. Cash or payment-slip options include Boleto in Brazil, Efecty in Colombia, OXXO and PayCash in Mexico, and Pago Fácil/Rapipago in Argentina. Card brands and prepaid-card availability also differ by country.
These options can be useful, but treat the checkout as the deciding source: confirm that the method is offered for your location and accepted for the particular purchase. Availability can also differ between buying a full game, adding platform funds and purchasing an in-game top-up.

How should you compare the options?

| Recurring payments | If you are starting a subscription, confirm that the method supports recurring charges. Mercado Pago marks some methods as unavailable for subscriptions in its availability table. |
| Account region | For a gift card or redeemable code, check that the code’s country and platform match your account. |
| Disputes and refunds | Read the merchant’s and payment provider’s terms. Protections and procedures differ by provider and method. |
Can you pay for games without a credit card?
Often, if the game store offers a local transfer, wallet, cash voucher or compatible platform gift card. One concrete example is Nintendo eShop digital gift cards: Nintendo documents Pix or Boleto Bancário for Brazil and OXXO for Mexico. Nintendo says the digital code is emailed after processing. These are Nintendo-specific options, not a promise that other stores accept the same methods. Check Nintendo’s Latin America eShop gift-card instructions.
Brazil: Pix or Boleto for Nintendo gift cards
With Pix, the checkout displays a QR code to scan using a bank app or wallet. Verify the amount and recipient before confirming payment. With Boleto, Nintendo says to pay at an authorized processing location within seven days and allow two to three days for processing.

Mexico: OXXO for Nintendo gift cards
Nintendo’s instructions say to present the OXXO voucher at an authorized location within five days. The voucher must be paid before the purchase can be processed.
Nintendo says these gift-card sales are final. Do not share Nintendo Account credentials with anyone. For any platform, read the applicable purchase terms before using a voucher or gift card.

How fast are local transfers and cash vouchers?
Timing depends on the particular payment flow. A Pix checkout can direct you to scan a QR code in a bank app or wallet, while a cash voucher requires an in-person payment and subsequent processing. For the Nintendo example, the stated Boleto processing allowance is two to three days; that timing should not be assumed for other merchants or payment providers.
Check the voucher’s payment deadline as well as its processing estimate. Missing the deadline can prevent the purchase from completing. If you need access immediately, choose a method whose checkout terms make the expected completion time clear.

Do payment trends tell you which method to use?
Regional data can show why local options matter, but it cannot determine the best choice for an individual checkout. PagSeguro’s 2023 report on e-commerce and payments in Latin America says credit cards represented 47% of gaming e-commerce transactions across its Top Six Markets: 28% were internationally enabled cards and 19% domestic-only cards. The report also says cash was the preferred method for one-sixth of gamers, while bank transfers and Pix together represented 17% of gaming payments.

The report gives country-specific figures too: Pix represented 27% of gaming sales in Brazil, where credit cards accounted for 58%; in Colombia, PSE represented 33% of gaming payments and credit cards 39%. These are report figures based on 2023 data and the report’s market scope—not current shares for every platform or advice that a particular method will work for you. Read PagSeguro’s report.

PagSeguro also states that average authorization rates for credit-card purchases on foreign websites can be as low as 30% across the region, compared with up to 80% with local processor partnerships. Those are the report’s stated comparisons, not guaranteed approval rates for a buyer or merchant.
Why can the same method work on one game service but not another?
Payment acceptance depends on the merchant’s country coverage and payment-provider setup, as well as the method itself. For example, EBANX announced on September 28, 2026 that NetEase Games Club would offer local payment methods and cards in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile and Peru. The announcement names Pix and Mercado Pago in Brazil, SPEI in Mexico and PagoEfectivo in Peru. This is a specific platform announcement; availability can depend on the game, country and rollout status. Read EBANX’s announcement.
What should you do if a payment fails or you need to dispute it?
First check the merchant’s order status and the payment provider’s instructions before retrying; a pending payment may not have resolved yet. Keep the receipt or transaction confirmation, and use the dispute route stated in the relevant provider’s terms.
