For phones, tablets, laptops and other small electronics, the Milwaukee M18 TOP-OFF 175W Power Supply (2846-20) is the model to evaluate. It has a 120V AC outlet rated for 175W continuous, USB-C Power Delivery up to 45W and USB-A up to 15W. The right choice depends on your device’s power requirement, the port you will use and how long you need it to run—not simply whether its plug fits.
Which M18 power supply do you need?
Start with the device and the kind of connection it needs. Milwaukee’s 2846-20 is the M18 option here with a 120V AC outlet for compatible small electronics. It accepts M18 batteries, but the battery is sold separately. The product page lists laptops, cellphones, TVs and other small devices as examples of intended use. Milwaukee M18 TOP-OFF 2846-20

Will a Milwaukee M18 inverter run your laptop?
It may, if the laptop’s input requirement is within the output of the port you plan to use. Check the laptop’s power adapter label or its manufacturer’s specifications and compare them with the 2846-20’s ratings. For AC, the limit is 175W continuous. For USB-C charging, the port supports USB-C PD up to 45W; the laptop and cable must support a compatible charging arrangement. USB-A is rated up to 15W and may not meet a laptop’s charging needs.
Recommended Free Tools
A plug fitting the AC receptacle does not establish compatibility. Milwaukee’s manual excludes appliances, power tools, air conditioners, sump pumps, compressors and other larger electrical devices. Do not use the 2846-20 for those loads. A device that exceeds the output rating or needs a startup surge the unit cannot provide is also a poor fit. Read the 2846-20 operator manual.
#1 Best Overall
- Faster simultaneous power
- 175 W continuous watts
- Rafter hooks allows for versatility on the jobsite to hang on common materials or carts
- Battery, charger and device cords not included
- Lightweight, compact design
How to match a device to the right output
- Find the input requirement. Read the device’s charger label or manufacturer specifications. Note the required voltage and power, and whether the device charges over USB-C PD or requires AC.
- Choose the matching port. Use the 120V AC receptacle for an appropriate AC adapter, USB-C PD for a compatible USB-C charging device, or USB-A for a device whose needs fit that port.
- Compare the demand with the limit. The 2846-20 is rated for 175W continuous at AC, up to 45W at USB-C and up to 15W at USB-A. Do not assume an AC device is suitable just because its rated draw is below 175W; Milwaukee’s exclusions still apply, and startup demand can matter.
- Check the USB-C cable. Milwaukee says fast charging depends on a compatible cable and connected device. The 2846-20 does not include device cords. Milwaukee’s TOP-OFF announcement.
- Estimate how long you need power. Runtime and charging capacity vary with the M18 battery capacity and the connected load. Choose the battery for the use you expect rather than treating the inverter’s wattage as a runtime estimate.
What can the 2846-20 power, and what can’t it?
Its three outputs serve different needs: one 120V AC receptacle rated 175W continuous, one USB-C PD port rated up to 45W and one USB-A port rated up to 15W. Milwaukee describes the unit for laptops, cellphones, TVs and other small devices, but those examples do not override the output ratings or the manual’s restrictions.
Do not choose it for appliances, power tools, air conditioners, sump pumps, compressors or other larger electrical equipment. For an intended device with an AC adapter, inspect the adapter’s input rating and consider any startup demand. For USB charging, check the device’s required charging protocol and the cable as well as its wattage.

How long will an M18 battery last?
The power supply requires an M18 battery, and the 2846-20 package does not include one. Milwaukee’s TOP-OFF Announcement Chart V3 gives estimates that vary by battery; they are manufacturer figures, not independently tested guarantees. The chart text does not provide enough test detail to turn them into a promised runtime or charge count. Milwaukee TOP-OFF announcement and chart.

What Milwaukee says about USB-C charging
Milwaukee’s announcement claims up to 75% faster charging to 80% than conventional 5W wall chargers and gives a smartphone example of 0–50% in roughly 30 minutes. These are company claims, not independent test results; the faster-charging claim depends on a compatible device and cable, and the comparison is specifically with 5W chargers.
