Choose a VPS only after you know whether it will relay an already encoded video stream or encode the gameplay itself. For a prerecorded replay loop, managed cloud playback may be simpler than running a server; for a VPS relay, compare monthly transfer limits, the route to YouTube, renewal cost and written usage terms—not just the advertised port speed or entry price.

First decide what the server has to do

“Streaming from a VPS” can describe two different workloads. Their resource needs and setup are not interchangeable.

Relay an already encoded stream

An encoder on your computer or another machine produces the video stream; the VPS receives and forwards it to YouTube. This is the workload closest to a modest streaming VPS. The server is relaying, not creating or improving the video.

Encode or transcode on the VPS

Here the VPS must process video as well as send it. Do not assume a plan can handle continuous gameplay encoding because it advertises several CPU cores or a fast network port. The available plan listings do not provide independent benchmarks for sustained gaming-video encoding.

Loop prerecorded files from managed cloud playback

If your source is an uploaded recording or playlist and you want it to play repeatedly without keeping your own encoder and server running, compare a managed playback service with a VPS. It is a different service model: you trade server-level control for a service that handles playback and stream recovery.

How much bandwidth does a 24/7 stream use?

Transfer is a central feasibility and cost check. Using YouTube Help’s recommended H.264 video bitrate of 8 Mbps for 720p30, a steady stream for 30 days carries about 2.59 decimal TB of video payload. The arithmetic is 8 megabits per second × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8 bits per byte. This estimate excludes audio and transport overhead, so budget above it. YouTube’s page lists 14 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60; the same calculation gives about 4.54 TB and 5.51 TB respectively before audio and overhead. These are transfer estimates derived from the listed video bitrates, not a provider’s allowance or a guarantee of actual usage.

Check the plan’s written monthly transfer allowance, overage charges and acceptable-use policy. “Unmetered” in a listing is a provider claim; it does not by itself establish that sustained high-volume traffic is permitted or that the stream will remain uninterrupted.

StreamNeo Managed YouTube playback for uploaded videos or playlists; one always-on slot; 10 GB storage per slot; up to 4K60 as uploaded. Monthly listing: $9.99 per month. Prerecorded replay loops where you want cloud playback rather than VPS administration. Check that the storage limit suits your video library and that managed playback meets your needs.
Inservers IN-BASIC Provider lists ₹880/month starting price, 2 vCores, 4 GB RAM, 40 GB NVMe, a 1 Gbps unmetered uplink and New Delhi connectivity. Its page says the plan is enough for one 1080p60 relay without transcoding. A relay workload if the provider confirms the transfer and usage terms in writing. These are provider-listed specifications and claims, not independently load-tested results. Confirm current price, taxes, renewal and acceptable-use terms.
Other India VPS plans getInfra.cloud’s September 2026 snapshot compares provider, resources, bandwidth, location and pricing. Building a shortlist across providers or regions. The snapshot is dated, not a checkout quote; confirm final price, tax and plan terms with the provider.

The Inservers price is a listed starting figure; the StreamNeo figure is the provider’s listed monthly price for one slot. They represent different service models and should not be treated as an independent value comparison. Inservers’ 1 Gbps figure describes advertised port capacity, not a demonstrated route to YouTube ingest or proof of sustained-stream reliability.

Choose a VPS with a five-part check

  1. Match the plan to the workload. Confirm whether the VPS will relay an already encoded stream or encode/transcode it. Do not size an encoding job from a relay plan’s description.
  2. Calculate transfer from bitrate. Estimate video traffic for your intended resolution and frame rate, then add audio and overhead. Compare that estimate with the written monthly cap and overage policy.
  3. Check the route and location. A provider may list an India location, but that does not establish the actual route quality to YouTube’s ingest endpoint. Test from the intended server and inspect YouTube’s stream health.
  4. Calculate the recurring bill. Check renewal price, applicable tax, billing period and any extra costs before relying on an introductory or starting price.
  5. Get operational terms in writing. Ask about sustained traffic, support, backups if relevant, and what recovery assistance is included. Do not infer reliability from plan specifications alone.

Configure the YouTube side for a relay

YouTube Help’s encoder guidance recommends choosing quality that is reliable for the available connection, testing upload bitrate, and testing with representative audio and movement before going live. Its published recommendations include H.264 video at 8 Mbps for 720p30, 14 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. Treat these as YouTube’s video-bitrate recommendations; allow for audio and transport overhead.

  • Protocol: YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS and recommends RTMPS because the connection is encrypted into and through Google’s servers.
  • Codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 as video codec options, with up to 60 fps. Make sure the sending encoder and relay workflow support the format you select.
  • Stream key: Use the stream key provided in YouTube Studio’s live-stream setup, and keep it private. The relay must send to the matching YouTube ingest destination using that key; do not publish it in a script, screenshot or public chat.
  • Keyframes and other encoder fields: Follow the current values shown in YouTube’s encoder-settings guidance for your chosen resolution and frame rate. Do not guess settings from another resolution or assume a VPS can compensate for an unsuitable source encode.

Set up and test the DIY relay before depending on it

A VPS relay is an administration task, not simply a video upload. The following workflow keeps the key decisions explicit; the exact Nginx RTMP configuration depends on the server image and software version, so confirm it against the software documentation and provider environment rather than pasting an unverified configuration.

  • Rich Ports – This Dell OptiPlex computer is equipped with 5 USB 3.0 ports, 2 USB 2.0 ports, and 2 DisplayPort ports, supporting dual-monitor connections. Additionally, a wireless keyboard and mouse are included.
  1. Provision the VPS. Select a plan whose provider confirms sustained streaming is allowed, and record its region, monthly transfer terms, renewal price and support route.
  2. Install and configure a relay. Set up an RTMP-capable relay such as the Nginx RTMP approach described by Inservers. Configure an input from your encoder and a YouTube RTMP or RTMPS output. Keep credentials protected and restrict access to the relay interface.
  3. Prepare the source encoder. Set the output resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate for the actual recording and your connection. Use YouTube’s current guidance for the chosen format and test with representative movement and audio.
  4. Connect the YouTube destination. Copy the current ingest destination and stream key from YouTube Studio into the relay’s protected configuration. Verify that the source is being forwarded to the intended channel before scheduling a long run.
  5. Run a sustained test. Start at the intended bitrate and inspect YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health as well as the relay logs and VPS transfer use. A short successful test cannot prove a full month’s reliability, but it can expose an incorrect key, unstable route or resource issue before you rely on it.
  6. Plan for interruption. Know how to restart the relay and source, rotate a key if exposed, and identify whether the provider or your own monitoring will alert you. A provider listing does not establish automatic recovery behavior.

Copyright and YouTube policy checks

Having a recording does not automatically grant permission to rebroadcast it. Check the rights in the gameplay, music, overlays, voice chat and any other included material, along with the game publisher’s applicable permissions. Also review YouTube’s current live-stream and monetization policies for your channel and content. A continuous replay format is not a guarantee of monetization or platform approval.

Common problems and what to check

  • YouTube receives no signal: Check the destination, stream key, relay input and output configuration. Confirm the source encoder is actually sending and inspect relay logs.
  • Stream health is poor or the picture buffers: Test the route and upload capacity at the selected bitrate, including audio and overhead. Reduce the source bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot sustain it; a faster advertised port alone is not proof of a reliable route.
  • The server provider questions traffic or adds charges: Compare actual transfer use with the plan’s written allowance and acceptable-use terms. Resolve sustained-traffic permission before restarting a continuous run.
  • The service stops after a disconnect: Determine whether the failure is at the source encoder, VPS relay, network path or YouTube ingest. Provider plan specifications alone do not promise recovery; confirm what automation or support is actually included.
  • The bill is higher than expected: Check renewal pricing, tax and transfer overage terms rather than relying only on the displayed starting price.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a managed YouTube service for uploaded recordings and playlists: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, then go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it loops from the cloud, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly slot is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are supported in India. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
