Match the blower’s power source, carrying style, runtime, noise, and output to your yard’s size, terrain, debris, cleanup frequency, and local rules. A compact handheld battery model can be ideal for patios and short jobs; large or wet-leaf cleanups may require a higher-capacity machine, a backpack design, or a different power source.
Before comparing models, measure the job you actually do: how much area you clear, what the debris is, how long a session lasts, where you can store the tool, and whether noise or operating-hour restrictions apply. Then verify the exact model’s battery, charger, nozzle, weight, runtime claims, and safety instructions.

Start with the work, not the blower
Two yards with the same area can need very different tools. A paved courtyard covered with dry clippings is a short, light task. A sloped yard with wet leaves, gravel, garden beds, and a long driveway demands more sustained control and traction. Husqvarna’s buying guidance begins with two practical questions: “How big is your yard, and how many leaves do you need to remove each year?” Those questions are useful because area alone does not describe workload.

Map your yard
- Area and layout: Note patios, paths, driveways, lawn sections, slopes, steps, and narrow passages. A tool that is comfortable in open space may be awkward around furniture or planting beds.
- Surface: Hard surfaces usually let you work at a lower throttle. Grass, mulch, gravel, and uneven ground require more control so you do not scatter material or disturb loose stones.
- Debris: Identify dry leaves, wet leaves, pine needles, grass clippings, small twigs, dust, and other material. Wet or matted debris generally takes more effort than loose, dry leaves.
- Volume and timing: Estimate how much accumulates between cleanups and how often you will work. A short weekly cleanup and one long seasonal session have different runtime and comfort requirements.
- Destination: Decide where debris will go before choosing a blower. Blowing into a collection area, tarp, compost pile, or curbside row affects nozzle control and the amount of repositioning.
Describe your typical session
Write down the longest realistic session, not just the average one. Include setup, walking between areas, breaks, and any time spent clearing a clogged nozzle or moving piles. This determines whether a light handheld unit is comfortable or whether a harness, larger battery, spare battery, or fuel-powered model is more practical.

Choose a power source
Battery, corded electric, and gas blowers can all be useful. The best choice depends on mobility, session length, maintenance tolerance, noise sensitivity, storage, and local restrictions. Category descriptions below are general guidance; the exact motor, battery, charger, fuel system, and runtime vary by model.
| Power source | Strengths | Trade-offs to check | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Battery | No extension cord, no gasoline or oil handling, and generally quieter operation than gas equipment according to manufacturer guidance. | Finite runtime, charging time, battery cost, and the need to confirm whether a battery and charger are included. | Noise-sensitive areas, routine cleanup, and users who value simple starting and low day-to-day maintenance. |
| Corded electric | Continuous power while connected and no fuel tank or battery recharge cycle. | The cord limits travel, requires a suitable outdoor outlet and cord-management plan, and can be inconvenient around large or divided yards. | Small areas close to an outlet where uninterrupted operation matters more than mobility. |
| Gas | Often positioned for high performance and longer running sessions, with no battery recharge interval. | Fuel storage and, on many models, fuel/oil mixing, engine maintenance, exhaust, starting procedures, and greater noise. | Large areas or heavy, extended work when mobility and sustained operation outweigh maintenance and noise concerns. |
Battery blowers
A battery model is often the simplest option for patios, walkways, driveways, and regular residential cleanup. There is no cord to drag and no gasoline or oil to store. Manufacturer guidance also positions battery equipment as a quieter choice for noise-sensitive work. Do not assume every battery blower is quiet or that every battery lasts through your whole yard: runtime changes with throttle setting, battery capacity, temperature, debris, and nozzle.
Check the listing for the battery voltage or platform, rated capacity, charger, charge time, and whether the package is “tool only.” A tool-only listing can be less expensive initially but requires a compatible battery and charger. Confirm that the battery platform is one you can obtain locally and that the charger is approved for that battery. If your cleanup exceeds one charge, compare the cost and weight of a second battery with the cost and inconvenience of a different blower.
Corded electric blowers
Corded models can provide uninterrupted operation for a compact yard. Their limitation is the work area: the cord must reach every section without unsafe routing, and you need an outdoor-rated extension cord and outlet arrangement permitted by the manufacturer. Count outlets, gates, steps, vehicles, and garden features that could snag or cut your path. If you must repeatedly stop to move the cord, the apparent simplicity can disappear.
Gas blowers
Gas models are commonly presented as high-performance or longer-run choices, and petrol backpack blowers are suggested for heavy work such as moving substantial quantities of wet leaves. They also introduce engine-related tasks. Consumer guidance notes that gas equipment requires maintenance and often fuel/oil mixing; the exact requirement depends on the engine. Read the manual for fuel type, storage, starting, servicing, and seasonal preparation. Noise and local operating-hour rules can be decisive reasons to choose another power source.

Select the carrying style
Form factor determines how the blower’s weight and vibration reach your body. Match it to the area and the longest session, not merely the tool’s listed maximum output.
Handheld
Handheld blowers suit compact yards, patios, driveways, walkways, and quick touch-ups. They are easy to pick up, point, and store. Check the total operating weight with the battery installed or fuel added, the balance of the tube and motor, trigger position, variable-speed control, and whether a lock-on feature is available. A model that feels fine for five minutes may strain your wrist during a full seasonal cleanup.
The Tool Desk

Backpack blowers transfer much of the load to a harness and are intended for larger tasks or extended use. Adjustability matters: shoulder straps, hip support, chest strap, and the angle of the blower tube should let you keep a neutral posture. Try the harness with the power source installed. A backpack design is not automatically better for a small yard; its extra size, setup, and storage needs may outweigh the comfort benefit.
Wheeled
Wheeled blowers can make sense for sizable, mostly open areas because the machine carries its own weight. They need more storage space and are less maneuverable around steps, tight corners, beds, and obstacles. Check turning clearance and how you will move the unit between storage and the work area.
Vacuum and shredder functions
Some blowers can vacuum and shred leaves, but availability and implementation differ by model. If you need that function, verify that the exact package includes the collection bag, vacuum tube, conversion hardware, and any stated shredding ratio. A blower without those parts cannot be assumed to support the feature simply because another model in the same range does.

Understand CFM, MPH, and the nozzle
CFM describes air volume, while MPH describes air speed. Both are model specifications, not universal measures of how much work a blower will do in every yard. Nozzle shape, outlet size, throttle setting, battery state, and the manufacturer’s test method affect the figures. Compare models only when their measurement conditions and included nozzles are clear.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallDo not select a blower from one large number or apply a made-up minimum CFM or MPH to a “small,” “medium,” or “large” yard. The available buying guidance does not establish a cross-brand threshold, and figures from different test conditions are not necessarily comparable. Consider the debris and surface first, then use CFM and MPH to compare otherwise similar options.
Example of a qualified specification
Husqvarna reports maximum airflow of 493.35 CFM and air speed of 166.4 mph for the 340iBT through its standard round nozzle. The same product information reports 79 dB(A) sound pressure at the operator’s ear. These are the manufacturer’s specifications for that model and stated configuration, not an independent cross-brand test or a promise that the figures apply with another nozzle or operating condition. The listing is marked “tool only,” so verify current package contents before purchase.
Plan runtime, weight, and ownership
Runtime and charging
Battery runtime is not a single universal number. Maximum-throttle work, wet debris, cold conditions, and an aging battery can shorten it. Ask whether the manufacturer’s runtime claim uses a particular battery, throttle setting, or intermittent use. For a long property, calculate whether one charge covers the route with a margin for repositioning and difficult piles. Otherwise price a compatible spare battery and charger, and account for their added weight.
Weight and ergonomics
Compare ready-to-use weight, not just bare-tool weight. For a battery model, that means the specified battery installed; for a gas model, it means the machine with its operating fuel level. Inspect the handle, trigger, vibration control, tube length, and balance. If more than one person will use the blower, fit and control should work for the shortest and least-strong operator as well as the primary user.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Storage
Measure the storage location and account for the tube, charger, spare batteries, fuel container, and protective equipment. Gas equipment needs an appropriate fuel-storage plan. Battery equipment should be stored and charged according to its manual, away from conditions that could damage the pack. A wheeled or backpack unit may require substantially more room than a handheld.
What is in the box
- Confirm whether a battery and charger are included or sold separately.
- Check which nozzle is supplied and whether optional nozzles change the published performance figures.
- Look for a shoulder strap, harness, vacuum kit, collection bag, or other accessories only if the exact listing includes them.
- Verify warranty, service arrangements, and replacement-battery availability in your region.
Account for noise and local rules
Check municipal or neighborhood rules before buying. Restrictions may address blower type, sound level, operating hours, or seasonal use, and they vary by location. A model that is legal in one municipality may be restricted in another. The available buying guidance does not determine the law for your address, so consult your city, county, homeowners’ association, or other local authority.
Manufacturers and consumer guidance publish decibel information, but readings must be interpreted carefully. Sound pressure measured at the operator’s ear is not interchangeable with a rating measured at a specified distance. When comparing two models, confirm the measurement position, test condition, and whether the number is sound pressure or another acoustic measure. Even a lower published rating does not remove the need to follow local limits and considerate operating hours.
Use the blower safely
Read the operator manual for the exact model before starting. STIHL safety guidance calls for hearing protection, eye protection that meets applicable standards, and a respirator or dust mask when appropriate. The same guidance recommends wetting dusty areas before blowing, using the lowest throttle that completes the task, and inspecting a battery for damage before use. Use only the recommended battery and charger for battery equipment.

- Clear people, pets, vehicles, open windows, and fragile objects from the work area.
- Wear eye and hearing protection; add dust protection when the material or conditions warrant it.
- Walk the area first and remove stones, wire, screws, and other projectiles.
- Keep the nozzle pointed away from people and avoid directing debris toward roads or neighboring property.
- Use a lower throttle near gravel, mulch, garden beds, and loose soil.
- Stop the machine before clearing a blockage, changing a nozzle, converting to vacuum mode, or performing maintenance.
- Follow the manual’s charging, fueling, cooling, and storage instructions.
A step-by-step buying process
- Write the job profile: Record the surfaces, debris types, largest area, annual leaf volume, typical session length, and the destination for debris.
- Check restrictions: Confirm permitted blower types, operating hours, and noise requirements for your address before comparing models.
- Choose mobility: Decide whether a cord can reach safely. If not, compare battery and gas options.
- Choose the carrying style: Select handheld for compact, short jobs; backpack for larger or extended cleanup; or wheeled for open, sizable areas where storage and maneuverability are acceptable.
- Set a runtime target: Match battery capacity or fuel operation to the longest session, including a practical reserve. Price necessary spare batteries, chargers, or fuel equipment.
- Compare qualified specifications: Review CFM, MPH, nozzle, weight, sound rating, and test conditions together. Reject comparisons that hide how the figures were measured.
- Inspect the package: Confirm tool, battery, charger, harness, nozzle, vacuum parts, and warranty contents for the exact model and regional listing.
- Test the fit when possible: Hold the tool, adjust the handle or harness, and check trigger reach and balance with the operating power source installed.
- Read the manual before purchase: Check fuel, charging, maintenance, storage, and protective-equipment requirements. Do not assume a model’s category tells you every procedure.
Common buying mistakes and fixes
Choosing by MPH alone
A high air-speed figure does not describe total air volume, nozzle design, or performance on your particular debris. Compare CFM, MPH, nozzle, and measurement conditions as a set.

Buying a tool-only battery kit by accident
“Tool only” means the listed package may exclude the battery and charger. Read the package contents and price the complete system before deciding.
Ignoring the longest session
A blower can feel perfect during a five-minute test and become tiring during seasonal cleanup. Evaluate ready-to-use weight, harness support, vibration, and runtime against the longest realistic job.
Assuming every gas model or battery model behaves the same
Engine maintenance, fuel requirements, battery compatibility, runtime, noise, and included accessories vary by model. Use category guidance to narrow the search, then read the exact manual and specification sheet.
Skipping local-law research
Noise and operating-hour restrictions are geographic. Verify them before purchase rather than discovering that your preferred tool cannot be used when you need it.
Blowing dust at full throttle
High throttle can create unnecessary dust and scatter material. Wet dusty areas first when appropriate and use the lowest setting that moves the debris, while wearing the recommended protection.
A practical decision framework
| If your priority is… | Start by considering… | Then verify… |
|---|---|---|
| Fast cleanup of a patio or driveway | Handheld battery or corded electric | Ready-to-use weight, cord reach or battery runtime, and nozzle control. |
| Quiet operation near neighbors | Battery category and the lowest practical throttle | Published sound measurement, local rules, and actual operating hours permitted. |
| Large or extended cleanup | Backpack battery or gas, depending on mobility, noise, and maintenance constraints | Harness fit, sustained runtime, fuel or spare-battery plan, and storage. |
| Heavy or wet leaves | A higher-capacity configuration suited to sustained work | Model-specific airflow claims, nozzle, throttle control, and whether the source is manufacturer guidance rather than independent testing. |
| Open acreage with few obstacles | Wheeled design may be worth evaluating | Turning clearance, transport route, storage space, and access to steps or narrow areas. |
The most defensible purchase is the one that completes your real route within its runtime, noise, comfort, and legal limits. Treat published output as a comparison aid, verify the complete package, and follow the exact operator manual from the first use.
