What’s actually slowing this PC down?

If your preferred graphics card is unavailable, choose a substitute by matching it to the games or applications, resolution, settings, and features you actually use—not by picking the nearest model number. Compare independent tests for those workloads, then weigh the exact card’s current price, memory, software features, power needs, and physical fit. A nearby model is not automatically an equivalent one.
Start with the experience you want
Before looking at alternatives, write down what the card needs to do. For gaming, note the games you play, target resolution, desired refresh rate, graphics settings, and whether ray tracing or upscaling matters. For creator, compute, or AI work, identify the applications and the features or compatibility they require. These details determine which performance tests and specifications matter.

Resolution alone is not enough to choose a GPU. A card that suits one game at 1440p may struggle in another at the same resolution, particularly with demanding settings or ray tracing. Use a workload-based buying guide to frame the decision, then check independent tests for the specific games or applications you care about. Tom’s Guide’s GPU coverage organizes recommendations around use cases, while Newegg Insider’s buying guide, updated October 7, 2026, advises choosing resolution, refresh rate, and settings first.

Shortlist alternatives whose independent benchmark results meet your needs at comparable resolution, settings, and application or game version. A fair comparison uses the same test conditions; a result measured with upscaling enabled should not be treated as directly equivalent to one without it. Look at the games you play rather than relying on a single headline score or an overall ranking.

Then compare each exact card’s current local price. As a rough value aid, you can consider how much tested performance you get for the price actually available to you, but that calculation is only meaningful when the performance tests match your workloads. Do not judge value from launch price or MSRP alone: Tom’s Hardware’s October 2026 market coverage described tightening supply and some listings well above launch-price benchmarks. Those were dated editorial observations, not a live price index; check the seller, stock, and listing in your region before deciding.
Compare the features that change the experience
Raw frame rates do not tell the whole story. Ray tracing, upscaling, and frame generation features vary among products, and support depends on the games or applications you use. Assess the feature set you need alongside performance, rather than assuming one vendor’s feature is interchangeable with another’s.

In its 2026 assessment, Tom’s Hardware discusses differences in DLSS, FSR, and XeSS support as part of the GPU experience. Tom’s Guide’s 2026 review of the Intel Arc B580 describes it as a value-led 1080p/1440p gaming option and reports good performance in selected 1440p tests with XeSS. Those results reflect that review’s test conditions; check current benchmarks for your own games and verify today’s price and availability.

Its assessment notes that the card is less suited to some AI and creator workloads, and that DLSS has broader features and game support than FSR. Treat that as the publication’s dated evaluation, not a universal rule or a direct equivalence to another card. Compare the applications, features, benchmarks, price, and fit that matter to you.

Check memory against your actual workloads
VRAM capacity is one factor, not a performance guarantee. Newegg Insider’s guide updated October 7, 2026, offers these indicative gaming ranges:
| Target gaming resolution | Indicative VRAM guidance |
|---|---|
| 1080p | 8–12 GB |
| 1440p | 12–16 GB |
| 4K | 16–24 GB or more |
These are guide recommendations, not universal minimums. A particular game, settings combination, or creator application may need a different amount, and more memory by itself does not make a card faster. Check workload tests and the application’s requirements before using capacity to break a tie.

Make sure the exact card fits your system
Specifications can vary between cards built around the same GPU. NVIDIA advises buyers to “Check your system’s power supply and case compatibility” in its official RTX 5060 upgrade checklist. Before buying, verify the exact board-partner model—not just the GPU family—for:

- Board power, the power-supply requirements, and the specific connectors or cables the card needs.
- Cooling, noise, and power efficiency, where reliable tests of that exact card are available.
NVIDIA’s graphics-card comparison page cautions that its listed specifications represent reference designs and add-in-card manufacturers’ specifications may vary. Check the card maker’s specifications and manuals, along with your PSU and case documentation. Do not assume a cable or adapter is suitable without confirming compatibility with the precise card and power supply.

Use a side-by-side shortlist
Once you have two or more candidates, compare like with like. Fill this in using current listings and tests rather than relying on launch specifications or a card’s name:
| What to compare | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Performance | Results for the same games or applications, resolution, settings, and test version; note whether ray tracing, upscaling, or frame generation is enabled. |
| Price and purchase terms | Current price, in-stock status, seller, warranty, and return terms for the exact board model in your region. |
| Memory | VRAM capacity and evidence that it suits your games, settings, or applications. |
| Software features | Ray tracing, upscaling, and frame generation support in the games you play; application support for creator, compute, or AI work. |
| System fit | Power requirements, connectors, card dimensions, and case clearance for that exact card. |
| Card design | Noise, cooling, and power efficiency if reliable tests cover the specific model. |
This keeps core counts, memory capacity, or MSRP from standing in for evidence about actual performance and suitability.
Recheck the listing before you buy
Stock and prices can change between research and purchase, and availability depends on time, seller, and geography. Confirm the exact model number, seller, price, stock, and return or warranty terms immediately before ordering. A roundup or review is a snapshot, not live inventory. If none of the available cards meets your workload, budget, and compatibility requirements, waiting for stock to return is a reasonable choice; paying a premium for a poor fit is not the only alternative.
