For Gears of War: E-Day’s Horde Siege mode, choose Assault for flexible mid-range objective play, Breacher for close-range aggression, Marksman for precision at longer sightlines, or Medic for healing and revives. These are role-fit recommendations, not a strength ranking: The Coalition says there is no required squad composition, and the official material does not publish comparative class win rates.
This advice applies to Horde Siege. Versus uses equal starting loadouts and does not use Weapon Mods, so the four Horde class identities do not define Versus play. Class details below reflect The Coalition’s July 30, 2026 multiplayer deep dive and may change with updates.

Choose by the way you want to fight
Horde Siege classes differ in starting loadout, combat bonus, Tactical Gear and progression—not just appearance. Match the role to the decisions you most enjoy making in a fight.

Assault: flexible mid-range and objective defense
Assault is built around mid-range weapons and flexibility. Its Sonic Disruptor can stun incoming enemy waves, particularly when defending an objective, while its cover bonus increases damage. Choose Assault if you want to shift between threats and help keep a position secure.

- CO‑OP YOUR WAY — Play online with up to four players across Campaign, Horde Siege, and Versus, or team up locally with 2‑player split‑screen co‑op on console.
Breacher: close-range frontline pressure
Breacher focuses on close-range damage. The Adrenaline Injector refills health and reduces incoming damage, giving the class tools for high-risk pushes; Breacher also has improved resistance to status effects and melee damage. Pick it if advancing into close encounters is more appealing than holding back at range.
Marksman: precision at longer sightlines
Marksman is built for precision damage and has improved critical-hit damage. Its Pulse Drone can tag Locust units for you and your squad. It suits players who prefer to identify priority targets and engage them from farther away rather than rush into the frontline.

Medic: recovery and squad support
Medic is a mid-range revive specialist that can still contribute in combat. Its Stim Vaporizer heals and revives nearby Gears, including downed soldiers from other squads, and the class regenerates health faster. Choose Medic if monitoring the team and restoring fallen allies is satisfying to you.

Mission format can matter as much as combat preference. The Coalition’s published playlist times are estimates, not guaranteed completion times.
Rank #3
| Playlist | Published format | Typical duration | Preference to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blitz | Short mission with one or two objectives | Usually 15–20 minutes | A shorter objective run |
| Siege | Standard-length mission with multiple objectives and more traversal | Usually 20–40 minutes | Moving between objectives |
| Horde | Tougher holdout of ten waves in one area | Usually 50–60 minutes | Staying in a fixed-position defense |
For a fixed-position defense, Assault’s wave-stunning gear has an obvious objective-holding use. For missions with more traversal, consider whether you would rather lead close-range pushes as Breacher, pick targets at distance as Marksman, or keep allies in the fight as Medic. The playlist descriptions do not establish that any class is best for a given mission.
Build a squad around preferences, not a required formula
The Coalition says classes are meant to complement one another, but there is no “right” squad setup; it specifically allows a squad of four Breachers. You do not need to select one of each class. Coordinate around what the group enjoys, then adjust if a mission’s demands or your squad’s needs change.

- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
Class selection is also not a permanent commitment to one weapon configuration. The launch description says weapon customization is shared across classes, so changing class does not require rebuilding Weapon Mods from scratch. At launch, each class had 30 progression levels; completed missions award Class XP, and progression unlocks weapons, equipment, Armor Mods, Tactical Gear Mods and Weapon Mods. Class level also affects which Horde Siege difficulties are available. The developer recommends attempting higher difficulties at higher class levels, so consider class progression and squad readiness alongside preferred playstyle.

Keep the advice in the right mode and current version
The class recommendations here are specifically for Horde Siege. In Versus, everyone starts with the same loadout weapons and equipment, and Weapon Mods are not used; The Coalition describes that mode as focused on skill, teamwork, map control and power-weapon decisions. Campaign, Horde and Versus share Gears’ emphasis on reading combat spaces and moving between cover, but that shared combat approach does not mean Horde classes are selectable in Campaign.

- Listen up, soldier. The world is in ruin. The Locust Horde has risen. It’s Human vs Horde, and here’s your mission: Pick a side, build a powerful deck, and win the war. The fate of the world is in your hands!
- Experience the gritty gunplay of the video game in this official two-player card game. Take command of the COG forces or the Locust horde and seize control of the battlefield, one chapter at a time.
- Strategise your way through each chapter, bolstering your forces with classic characters like Marcus Fenix, General Raam, August “Cole Train” Cole, Dominic Santiago, and Damon Baird.
- Every battle counts. Whatever happens in each chapter will change what comes next, so you’d better be ready to dominate. The deck you build and decisions you make will change the way you play each campaign, making this a game you can reload time and time again.
- Whether you're a hardened vet or a grass-green rookie, get ready to take cover and lay down suppressive fire. Your enemies are trying to take the line, soldier. You’d better shove back hard.
The July 30, 2026 class overview describes four classes at launch, with more planned in seasonal updates. The Coalition has also said telemetry and player feedback will guide tuning and balance adjustments, so treat class and progression details as version-sensitive rather than a permanent meta. Xbox’s listing gives October 6, 2026 as the release date and lists Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC; that is the listing information available on October 4, 2026, immediately before the stated release date.
