Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteChoose a gaming mouse by matching its shape and dimensions to the way you naturally hold it—not by hand-size labels or a model recommendation alone. Measure your hand, compare the mouse’s length, width, and height, then check its hump, side shape, button reach, handedness, and weight. If you can, try the shape before buying.
Identify how your hand rests on the mouse
Watch where your hand makes contact during ordinary play. Grip labels are useful descriptions, not strict categories: your hold may combine styles or shift as you play.

Palm grip
Your palm and fingers rest on the shell. A fuller mouse with enough length and a supportive hump may provide the contact you want. Check that the shell supports your hand without making the buttons awkward to reach. CORSAIR’s grip guide describes the contact patterns and shape considerations for common grips.
Claw grip
The heel of your palm touches the shell while your fingers curl over the buttons and sides. Compare the mouse’s width and side curvature, and notice whether the hump meets the base of your palm where you expect it to.

Fingertip grip
Only your fingertips contact the mouse. Consider the overall size and width, and whether a tall or rear-positioned hump presses against your palm or limits finger movement.
Measure your hand, then compare the actual mouse
Measure from the tip of your middle finger to the first crease at your wrist. BenQ ZOWIE describes hands under 17 cm (6.7 inches) as generally small and hands over 19 cm (7.5 inches) as often large. These are approximate categories from the manufacturer, not universal ergonomic standards; if you are near either boundary, rely on fit and the mouse’s dimensions instead. See BenQ ZOWIE’s hand-size guidance.

Hand length is only one part of fit. Compare your hand’s width and the mouse’s published length, width, and height. Then consider where the hump sits, how the sides curve, whether the shape suits your handedness, how easily you reach the buttons, and how the weight feels in use. CORSAIR likewise recommends starting with natural grip and hand size, then assessing dimensions and shape.
| What to compare | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Hand length and width | Dimensions help you judge whether the shell is likely to feel too short, long, narrow, or wide. |
| Hump and contact points | Check palm support for a palm grip, heel-of-palm contact for a claw grip, and clearance for fingertip movement. |
| Shell shape and handedness | Compare symmetrical and ergonomic shapes, side curvature, and whether the design suits your left or right hand. |
| Button layout and reach | Choose controls you can reach comfortably; button access may matter more for games that use many buttons than for a simpler FPS layout. |
| Weight | Some players prefer a lighter feel and others a more grounded one. This is a personal trade-off, not an objectively best weight. |
Use manufacturer recommendations as a shortlist, not a verdict
Recommendations can narrow the options, but a family-level description cannot establish how a specific model will fit your hand. Razer currently describes its Viper line as a lightweight, symmetrical design suited to medium-to-large hands and claw or fingertip grips. Its DeathAdder family is described as right-handed and ergonomic, for palm and claw use. Check the dimensions and fit guidance for the exact model on Razer’s gaming-mouse category page.

CORSAIR also names mouse examples for grip types in its guide. Treat those as the company’s recommendations, not independent comparative test results or a universal ranking. Game genre can inform which buttons you need, but it does not dictate your grip or determine which mouse will fit.
As Logitech G puts it, “Choosing the right mouse shape still comes down to preference and gaming style.” That is vendor guidance, not a claim that one shape or grip is best for everyone. Read Logitech G’s shapes and grips overview.

Make the decision with a practical fit check
- Observe your natural hold. Note whether your palm and fingers rest on the shell, only the heel of your palm touches it, or your fingertips do most of the contact.
- Measure your hand. Record middle-fingertip-to-wrist-crease length, and consider hand width as well.
- Compare model dimensions. Check published length, width, and height alongside hump position, side curvature, and handedness.
- Check control and feel. Confirm comfortable button reach and decide whether the mouse’s weight and layout suit the way you play.
- Try the shape if possible. Manufacturer guidance is a useful filter, but personal comfort is the deciding test.
Consider grip tape only for a compatible mouse
If you already own a compatible Razer mouse and want a grippier surface, Razer sells Mouse Grip Tape described as polyurethane with a sweat-absorbent surface. Compatibility is limited to the models listed by Razer, so check its current compatibility list before buying; the accessory does not replace choosing a shell that fits your hand.
