1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThere is no universal winner. Choose the provider that matches your workload’s service class, required data location, legal obligations, operating model and fully loaded cost. Infomaniak is the clearest starting point when Swiss hosting and a broad, integrated catalogue matter. Hetzner is a strong infrastructure-first option when you want to self-manage virtual machines, storage and networking in a selected European location. OVHcloud is worth shortlisting when you need a wider combination of public cloud, dedicated bare metal or hosted private cloud.
Those are starting points, not substitutes for a like-for-like evaluation. A web-hosting plan, a managed database, a VPS, a dedicated server and a hosted private cloud are different products. Compare the same class of service, in the same region, with the same backup, bandwidth, support, tax and billing assumptions.

The short answer: match the provider to the workload
Use this first-pass decision table, then validate the exact product and contract before ordering.
| When your priority is… | Most relevant starting point | Why | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Swiss data hosting and a broad catalogue | Infomaniak | The company says entrusted data is hosted exclusively in Switzerland and processed in Geneva and Zurich. Its catalogue includes public cloud, VPS, Kubernetes, databases, Jelastic Cloud and web hosting. | The individual service’s location, subprocessors, backup location, SLA, support scope and contractual terms. |
| Self-managed infrastructure in a European cloud region | Hetzner | Hetzner offers cloud locations in Europe, including Germany and Finland in a June 2025 iX overview, alongside locations in the USA and Singapore. Its positioning is infrastructure-focused. | The current location list, product-specific terms, data-processing arrangements, support model, backup design and any non-European processing. |
| Dedicated hardware or hosted private cloud | OVHcloud | OVHcloud’s 2024 corporate filing describes dedicated Bare Metal Cloud servers and hosted private cloud, in addition to its broader cloud portfolio. | Current regional availability, hardware generation, network commitments, private-cloud architecture, migration terms and support tier. |
| A regulated or sensitive workload | None by default | Physical server location alone does not answer every jurisdiction, contract, subprocessor or access question. | The exact contracting entity, processing locations, subprocessors, transfer mechanism, retention, access controls and your organization’s legal requirements. |
Infomaniak’s Swiss focus, Hetzner’s infrastructure orientation and OVHcloud’s breadth are useful differentiators, but they do not prove that one provider is faster, cheaper or more reliable for every application. No directly comparable three-way price or performance benchmark is established here.

Start by defining the service class
Many provider comparisons fail because they put unlike products in one ranking. Write down the service you actually need before comparing brands.
Shared or managed web hosting
If you are running a conventional website, content-management system or small business site, shared or managed hosting may be more appropriate than a raw virtual machine. The provider handles more of the operating system and platform maintenance, reducing administration but limiting low-level control. Compare included sites, storage, database limits, email, staging, caching, backups, restore points, support hours and migration assistance.

A VPS gives you an isolated virtual machine with administrator-level control. It is suitable for custom web stacks, application servers, VPN endpoints, development environments and modest databases. You remain responsible for operating-system updates, firewall rules, users, monitoring, backup verification and incident response unless a separate managed service is included.
Public IaaS
Public infrastructure-as-a-service is the right comparison when you need multiple virtual machines, private networks, object storage, load balancing, snapshots, automation APIs or elastic capacity. Compare the complete architecture rather than the hourly compute rate: egress, block storage, public IPv4 addresses, snapshots, load balancers, managed databases, monitoring and support can materially change the bill.
Managed Kubernetes and databases
A managed platform can remove control-plane maintenance and provide integrated upgrades, backups and high-availability options. Infomaniak lists a Kubernetes Service and Database Service, but the exact capabilities must be checked for the chosen product. Determine supported versions, upgrade policy, node placement, storage classes, maintenance windows, recovery-point objectives and whether backups stay in the required country.
Dedicated bare metal
Dedicated hardware is appropriate for sustained CPU, memory, storage-I/O or licensing requirements that do not fit a shared virtualized environment. OVHcloud’s 2024 Universal Registration Document describes Bare Metal Cloud as dedicated physical servers where customers choose the operating system and manage the software layers. Confirm hardware model, RAID or disk options, replacement procedure, remote-console access, network capacity, included traffic and reinstall process.
Hosted private cloud
Hosted private cloud is a different operating model again: you are buying an environment designed around isolation, governance and dedicated resources rather than a single server. OVHcloud’s filing describes hosted private cloud as part of its portfolio. Ask who operates the virtualization layer, where management components run, how tenant isolation is implemented, what constitutes an outage, and how capacity is expanded.
Make location and jurisdiction explicit requirements
“European cloud” can mean a European data centre, a European company, European processing, or all three. Treat those as separate questions.
Physical location
Infomaniak’s homepage says data entrusted to it is hosted exclusively in Switzerland and processed in Geneva and Zurich. That is a company statement applying to the scope it describes; confirm whether it covers your chosen VPS, database, backup, support and abuse-handling workflows.
Hetzner describes European cloud availability and also lists the USA and Singapore. A European account can still be deployed outside Europe if the selected location permits it. Check the current region selector and product terms at ordering time, and verify where replicas, snapshots, object-storage copies and support-access data are kept.

OVHcloud’s regional choices vary by product. Do not infer a current footprint from a corporate-wide map; select the exact service and country required by your architecture and contract.
Corporate structure and applicable law
A server’s physical country is not a complete legal analysis. The relevant questions include the contracting entity, corporate ownership, data-processing agreement, subprocessors, administrator access, support locations, government-access procedures, retention and international-transfer mechanisms.
Hetzner’s data-protection page discusses international locations and the implications of the US CLOUD Act. Treat those statements as the provider’s explanation, not as a legal conclusion for your organization. If you process health, financial, public-sector or other regulated data, have counsel or your privacy officer review the actual agreement and processing map.
Infomaniak describes itself as an independent Swiss company controlled by its employees and says it complies with the Swiss nFADP and GDPR. Attribute those as company claims; they are not an independent audit conclusion. Confirm the service-specific contractual commitments and any exceptions.
Questions to put in your procurement record
- Which country hosts the primary workload?
- Where are backups, snapshots, logs and support exports stored?
- Which legal entity signs the contract?
- Which subprocessors can access data or metadata?
- Can administrators or support personnel access systems from outside the selected region?
- What happens to data after cancellation, suspension or an unpaid invoice?
- Which transfer mechanism applies if data or support access crosses a border?
Provider profiles: what each one is designed to do
Infomaniak
Infomaniak presents itself as an independent Swiss company controlled by its employees. Its homepage says entrusted data is hosted exclusively in Switzerland and processed with open-source or in-house software in Geneva and Zurich. The company also states that it complies with the Swiss nFADP and GDPR.
Its listed services span Public Cloud (IaaS), VPS Cloud, VPS Lite, Kubernetes Service, Database Service, Jelastic Cloud, web hosting and adjacent services. That breadth can suit a team that wants to combine infrastructure with more managed or platform-like components under one provider. It does not mean every service has identical regions, controls or support, so evaluate the exact SKU.
Infomaniak’s homepage says one data centre recycles “100% of energy to heat 6’000 homes” and that the company aims to self-generate “50% of its electricity by 2030.” These are company statements: the first describes a data-centre claim and the second is an objective, not an achieved share for every facility. The company’s CSO and co-founder Boris Siegenthaler also says, “We don’t practise greenwashing.” Treat that as corporate positioning rather than independent environmental verification.
Hetzner
Hetzner is commonly considered when the buyer wants direct control over infrastructure primitives. A June 2025 iX overview describes European cloud availability in Germany and Finland and notes additional locations in the USA and Singapore; Hetzner’s own page likewise describes those non-European locations. Availability and product capabilities change, so use the current region and product pages when ordering.
The same iX overview characterizes Hetzner as focused on virtual machines, object storage and load balancers, with little platform-as-a-service at the time it was published. That is dated third-party coverage, not a permanent catalogue boundary. The practical implication is that you should expect to own more of the architecture: operating-system hardening, orchestration, database operations, observability, backups and failover may be your responsibility.
Hetzner publishes information about data protection at international locations and discusses the US CLOUD Act. Read those explanations alongside the actual contract, processing locations, subprocessors and your own legal requirements. A European deployment location does not by itself eliminate every cross-border or jurisdictional consideration.

OVHcloud
OVHcloud combines public cloud with dedicated infrastructure. Its 2024 Universal Registration Document describes Bare Metal Cloud as dedicated physical servers on which customers choose the operating system and manage software layers. The same filing describes hosted private cloud.
In that filing, OVHcloud says customer feedback identifies five selection factors: price/performance ratio, continuity and reliability of service, technical performance, data security/sovereignty and data-centre location. This is OVHcloud’s account of customer feedback, not an independent survey. It is nevertheless a useful checklist for your own requirements.
A June 2025 iX overview reported a broad portfolio covering cloud, bare metal and hosted private cloud, and counted 43 data centres in nine countries at that time. It also reported €993 million in 2024 revenue. Both figures are dated third-party reporting and should not be treated as current footprint or a guarantee of availability for your chosen product.
Use a like-for-like comparison worksheet
Build one row for each candidate configuration. Do not compare a small VPS from one provider with a dedicated server from another.
| Category | Record for every candidate |
|---|---|
| Service class | Shared hosting, VPS, public IaaS, managed Kubernetes, managed database, bare metal or hosted private cloud. |
| Location | Country, region, primary site, replica site, backup site and support-access geography. |
| Compute | vCPU or physical cores, generation, clock characteristics if stated, RAM, accelerator and oversubscription policy if disclosed. |
| Storage | Type, capacity, IOPS or throughput limits, redundancy, snapshots and backup retention. |
| Network | Included traffic, egress price, port speed, public IP charges, private networking and load balancing. |
| Operations | Managed patching, control plane, monitoring, alerting, console access, API, Terraform support and maintenance windows. |
| Resilience | SLA scope, credit terms, multi-zone or multi-site options, hardware replacement and restore objectives. |
| Commercial terms | Hourly or monthly billing, commitment discounts, tax treatment, currency, cancellation, support plan and setup fees. |
| Exit | Image export, data egress, DNS portability, API access, deletion confirmation and migration assistance. |
Calculate total cost instead of declaring a price winner
The available evidence does not establish current, equivalent specifications and prices across all three providers. A defensible cost comparison must use live offers and identical assumptions.
Recommended Free Tools
- Freeze the architecture. Specify the number and size of instances, storage capacity, expected monthly traffic, backup frequency, database tier, load balancer count and monitoring needs.
- Freeze the geography. Select the same country or the nearest acceptable region. If an exact country is mandatory, discard products that cannot deploy there rather than averaging regions.
- Choose one billing period. Compare monthly on-demand pricing with monthly on-demand pricing, or comparable commitments. Record whether prices include VAT and which currency conversion you used.
- Add non-compute charges. Include block or object storage, snapshots, backups, IPv4 addresses, egress, load balancers, managed databases, support and license fees.
- Price resilience. A single instance and a two-site deployment are not equivalent. Include the second region, standby capacity, replicated storage and DNS or traffic-management costs when your recovery design requires them.
- Price people and tools. If one option requires more patching, monitoring, database administration or incident coverage, include that operational effort in your internal total-cost model.
- Save the quote. Record date, product code, region, usage assumptions, tax status, promotional period and recurring price. Cloud prices and regional availability change.
Promotional credits or introductory prices should be shown separately from the recurring steady-state total. A low headline compute price can be outweighed by egress, backup, support or engineering time.
Reliability and performance: define evidence before you rank providers
Reliability is an architecture property as much as a provider property. Ask whether your application can tolerate one host, one availability zone, one region or one control-plane failure.
Evidence to request
- Product-specific SLA, exclusions, measurement window and service-credit process.
- Maintenance and hardware-replacement procedures.
- Availability-zone or multi-site design for the selected region.
- Backup durability, restore testing and stated recovery-point and recovery-time objectives.
- Network redundancy and incident communication process.
- Independent benchmarks that match your workload, not generic synthetic scores.
OVHcloud’s filing names continuity, reliability and technical performance among the factors customers consider. That does not establish a ranking. For a database, test transaction latency and recovery. For a media service, test sustained storage throughput and egress. For an API, test tail latency under realistic concurrency. For a batch system, test completion time and interruption recovery.
Run a controlled proof of concept
- Deploy the same operating-system image, application version and data shape in each shortlisted region.
- Use identical firewall, caching, connection-pool and kernel settings where the products permit.
- Measure at least 24 hours of normal workload and a separate peak-load run; record p50, p95 and p99 latency, throughput, error rate and resource saturation.
- Exercise backup creation, restore, image export, instance replacement and support escalation.
- Repeat network tests from the countries where your users actually connect.
- Keep the test data synthetic or appropriately anonymized, and delete all environments and copies when the evaluation ends.
Do not present a short proof-of-concept as a universal benchmark. It answers whether a particular configuration meets your requirements under documented conditions.

Self-managed infrastructure
A lower-level VPS or IaaS deployment can be economical and flexible, but your team owns patching, secrets, hardening, backups, observability, upgrades and incident response. Hetzner’s infrastructure-oriented profile may fit this model particularly well, provided you have the skills and coverage.

Managed and platform services
Managed Kubernetes, databases or web hosting reduce routine administration and can standardize upgrades and backups. Infomaniak’s catalogue includes several such categories. The trade-off is less control and possible platform-specific migration work. Verify version support, maintenance windows, extensions, export formats and who can access operational metadata.
Dedicated operations or private cloud
Bare metal and hosted private cloud can support predictable performance, licensing constraints or stronger isolation, but they require capacity planning and a clearer operations contract. OVHcloud’s documented bare-metal and hosted-private-cloud offerings make it a candidate for this model. Confirm whether the service is actually managed or merely hosted hardware with customer-managed software.
Decision scenarios
You must keep entrusted data in Switzerland
Start with Infomaniak because it states that entrusted data is hosted exclusively in Switzerland and processed in Geneva and Zurich. Validate that statement against the exact service, backup path, support access and contract. If a required component is unavailable there, redesign the architecture or document the exception rather than assuming all components inherit the same location.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →You want a simple, self-managed European VPS
Shortlist Hetzner and compare it with equivalent VPS offers from the others in the same country. Evaluate the complete monthly basket, not only virtual CPU and RAM. Confirm the current region, traffic allowance, backup method, support response and your team’s ability to operate the stack.
You need dedicated hardware for a steady workload
Include OVHcloud Bare Metal Cloud and any equivalent dedicated-server products. Compare hardware generation, disk redundancy, replacement process, network limits, remote management and contract length. A dedicated server can be a better fit than a larger VM when sustained performance or licensing is the constraint, but it can also leave you with less elasticity.
You need a private-cloud operating model
Investigate OVHcloud’s hosted private-cloud options first, then compare architecture and management responsibilities rather than brand-level feature lists. Ask for a diagram showing management, tenant and storage planes, plus the failure and expansion procedures.
You need a broad set of managed services
Infomaniak’s listed public cloud, Kubernetes, database and web-hosting categories may reduce the number of vendors you operate. Check whether the services integrate with your identity, networking, backup and monitoring systems. A broad catalogue is valuable only if the individual products meet your region, security and availability requirements.

Migration and validation checklist
- Inventory applications, databases, domains, certificates, secrets, scheduled jobs and external integrations.
- Classify every dataset by residency, retention, confidentiality and recovery objective.
- Choose the target service class and region; document why each component belongs there.
- Export configuration as code where possible and create a provider-independent backup.
- Deploy a staging environment and verify DNS, TLS, outbound mail, webhooks, monitoring and access controls.
- Run a restore test before moving production traffic.
- Lower DNS time-to-live before cutover, then migrate during a monitored window.
- Keep the old environment read-only until application checks, billing checks and rollback criteria pass.
- Confirm deletion of old snapshots, disks, logs and backups after the retention period.
- Review the first complete invoice against the worksheet, including tax, egress, support and one-time charges.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
- Comparing names instead of products: compare VPS with VPS, managed database with managed database and bare metal with bare metal.
- Assuming “European” means one legal regime: inspect entity, contract, subprocessors and support access.
- Ignoring backups: a snapshot is not automatically an independent, recoverable backup. Test restoration.
- Using a promotional price as the business case: separate introductory credits from recurring cost.
- Choosing a region only for latency: residency, replication and support-access requirements may matter more.
- Underestimating operations: include engineering and on-call time when comparing self-managed and managed services.
- Treating a dated footprint as current: the June 2025 iX overview is useful context, but verify current locations and products before purchase.
- Assuming a provider’s compliance statement settles your obligations: company claims are not a substitute for reviewing your own regulatory duties and the signed agreement.
A practical final selection method
Score each candidate from zero to five on only the criteria that are mandatory for your workload: service fit, location, jurisdiction and governance, price/performance, reliability, technical performance, operational effort, support and exitability. Mark any failed hard requirement as disqualifying rather than allowing a high score elsewhere to compensate.
Then validate the top two with a time-boxed proof of concept and a written quote. Keep the decision record with the selected region, product version, assumptions, test results, contract documents and review date. Revisit it when the workload, legal requirements or provider catalogue changes.
