To manage its permissions, go separately to Settings > Apps > [launcher] > Permissions. Choosing a default Home app and granting app permissions are separate settings.
Set the default Home app
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps.
- Tap Choose default apps.
- Tap Home app.
- Select the launcher you want to use.
If the launcher you want is not listed, it may not be installed or available for your device. Some Galaxy devices or carrier configurations include only One UI Home by default; Samsung says users can download another launcher from a store. Check that the launcher is compatible with your Galaxy model and software.

If your phone asks which Home app to use when you press the Home button, choose the preferred app and tap Always to make it the default. Choose the one-time option if you only want to use it for that occasion.
Change a launcher’s permissions
- Open Settings > Apps.
- Tap the launcher whose permissions you want to review.
- Tap Permissions.
- Under Allowed or Not allowed, tap a permission and select an available option.
Options can include allowing access only while using the app, asking each time, allowing access, or denying it. The choices depend on the permission, app, and software version. Some Galaxy versions also provide a Permission manager for reviewing permissions by category; use the route and labels shown on your device if they differ.

Before denying a permission, consider what feature it supports. Samsung warns that refusing a permission an app needs can disable some features or prevent the app from working until access is restored.
What to check before switching launchers
- Widgets: Samsung warns that widgets may no longer appear after changing the home interface. Its support page says switching back restores them; check how this works on your device and with the launcher you choose.
- Features and compatibility: Confirm that the launcher supports the home-screen features and widgets you rely on and works with your Galaxy model and software.
- Requested permissions: Review what each requested permission enables before allowing or denying it.
- Changing menus: Samsung notes that settings and available choices can vary by device, carrier, installed apps, software version, permission, and app. Follow the labels currently visible on your phone.
If the Home app prompt keeps returning
If the phone continues asking which Home app to use after you select Always, Samsung suggests checking whether the same issue occurs with One UI Home, restarting in Safe mode, clearing the app’s cache or data, and restarting the device. These are troubleshooting suggestions from Samsung; the exact steps and effects may vary by device and software version. Clearing data can reset app settings, so check the options shown on your phone before proceeding.

Samsung’s support guidance does not rank or endorse specific third-party launchers. To decide whether one suits you, compare its compatibility with your model and software, support for the home-screen features and widgets you use, the permissions it requests and why, and the troubleshooting guidance its developer provides.
