Choose the calculator that can reconstruct your complete transaction history, preserve France’s treatment of non-cash crypto exchanges, and produce a reviewable annex 2086 report. It should also help you identify whether a separate 3916-bis foreign-account declaration is required. No software vendor decides your tax liability: the French tax authority does. Treat every stablecoin classification as something to verify against the exact transaction, tax year and your personal status.
What a French stablecoin tax calculator must do
A useful tool is more than a gain-and-loss spreadsheet. It must turn records from every exchange, wallet and blockchain into a traceable calculation that you can inspect before filing. Prioritize these capabilities, in this order:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Complete data import. It should accept the API, CSV export or wallet-address format used by each account in your history. A provider’s claimed platform count does not prove that your exact exchange export, chain or stablecoin is supported.
- Ownership-aware transfer matching. Transfers between wallets or exchanges that you control should not be mistaken for disposals. The software needs a way to link the sending and receiving records, account for network fees and flag unmatched movements.
- Transaction-level review. You should be able to open a swap, redemption, transfer, fee, liquidity-pool movement or loan transaction, see the source record and change the classification when the default is wrong.
- French filing output. For a private investor, the central report is the annual digital-asset gain or loss annex 2086. The calculator should state the tax year and assumptions used to create it.
- Separate-account awareness. If you have qualifying accounts with foreign providers, the software should explain the 3916-bis obligation rather than implying that an 2086 report completes every filing task.
- Reconciliation and exports. You need warnings for duplicates, missing transfers, unsupported assets and unexplained balances, plus a way to export the underlying transaction list and corrections.
These tests matter more than a polished dashboard. A low total produced from incomplete imports is not a tax result you can safely file.

How French tax treatment affects your calculator choice
Private-asset gains and the 2026 rate published by the tax authority
In guidance modified 17 July 2026, the Direction générale des Finances publiques describes a 31.4% prélèvement forfaitaire unique (PFU) for private digital-asset gains: 12.8% income tax and 18.6% social levies. It also describes an option to elect the progressive income-tax scale. A year-specific calculator must show which regime and rate it applies; do not assume a report generated for one year remains correct for another.

The €305 gross-disposal threshold
The same guidance describes an exemption when annual gross disposal proceeds do not exceed €305. The calculation is based on proceeds, not net gains, and excludes exchanges that qualify for tax deferral. Ask the software to show the proceeds it counted and the transactions it excluded. A dashboard displaying only net profit cannot demonstrate that this threshold was applied correctly.
Exchanges without a balancing payment
The tax authority states: «Toutefois, les opérations d’échange sans soulte d’actifs numériques bénéficient d’un sursis d’imposition.» In practical terms, an exchange of digital assets with no balancing payment receives tax deferral under the stated rule. A calculator should preserve the exchange as an exchange, rather than automatically treating every swap as a taxable sale.
That sentence does not settle every stablecoin scenario. The official material reviewed does not establish identical treatment for every token marketed as a stablecoin, every issuer redemption or every route through fiat. A vendor’s default label is an implementation choice, not binding authority. Check the legal nature of the asset, what was delivered and received, whether any balancing payment occurred, and the euro value and timestamp recorded by the platform.

Annex 2086 for disposals
The tax authority identifies form 2086 as the annex for digital-asset disposal gains and losses. For online filing, the total gain is carried to box 3AN and the total loss to box 3BN. The 2086 form must be attached to the income declaration.
A loss is limited to gains of the same nature in the same year and cannot be carried forward. Therefore, a calculator that simply carries a negative balance into a later year is not following the stated rule. Inspect how the report handles losses before accepting its total.

Form 3916-bis for qualifying foreign accounts
Individuals and non-commercial entities domiciled or established in France must declare qualifying foreign digital-asset accounts each year. The tax authority names form 3916-bis and also permits account references to be supplied through the online filing process. This is a separate account-reporting obligation. An 2086 gain report does not, by itself, prove that 3916-bis has been completed.
Ask a vendor whether it can list the foreign accounts and provide the information you need. If it only calculates gains, record the account details and complete the separate declaration yourself.

Do not evaluate a calculator with a clean sample portfolio. Export a small but representative set from your own records and require a walk-through of each event. Include:
- a stablecoin-to-crypto swap with no euro payment;
- a stablecoin-to-euro conversion or withdrawal;
- an issuer redemption, if you have used one;
- a transfer between two wallets that you own;
- a transfer between your own exchange accounts;
- trading, withdrawal and network fees;
- an incomplete or duplicated record from an exchange export;
- any liquidity-pool, lending, borrowing or yield transaction; and
- staking or mining receipts, if applicable.
For every example, ask the provider to show the imported source row, its classification, the euro value and timestamp, the cost basis effect, and the line that appears in the French report. Confirm that a correction is retained in an audit history or export. If support cannot explain a result, treat the transaction as unresolved rather than accepting the generated total.

This is a feature-verification shortlist, not a ranking. No independent hands-on test establishes that any of these services handles every stablecoin case correctly. Re-check current documentation, terms and tax-year support before paying or connecting accounts.
Questions to put to support
- Can you import my exact exchange export, wallet address and chain, including stablecoin contract variants?
- How do you identify a transfer between two accounts that I own?
- Where can I see and edit the classification of a stablecoin swap or redemption?
- How are fees, gas payments and failed transactions represented?
- Which tax year, rate and assumptions are used in the 2086 report?
- Does the service produce 3916-bis account information, or only explain the separate filing?
- Can I export all raw records, classifications and corrections if I leave the service?
- What API permissions are required, how long are records retained, and how are access credentials revoked?
A reconciliation workflow that prevents false totals
1. Inventory every source
List each exchange, broker, self-custody wallet, hardware-wallet address, staking service and protocol used during the tax year. Download original CSV statements and transaction histories before connecting an API. Keep the account name, country, currency and date range with each file.
2. Import in chronological coverage
Import the full history, not only the current year. Earlier acquisitions can determine cost basis for a later disposal. Record the import date and file name. If an API omits a delisted asset, older fill or withdrawal, add the exchange’s official export rather than inventing a price.
3. Match your own transfers
Compare outgoing and incoming records by asset, quantity, timestamp and transaction hash. Link movements between your own accounts and inspect residual balances. A transfer fee may be a separate disposal or cost item in the software, so verify its treatment rather than deleting it to make balances agree.
4. Resolve duplicates and gaps
API and CSV imports can overlap. Search for repeated transaction hashes, identical timestamps and duplicated fees. Then compare the ending balance in the calculator with each exchange statement and wallet history. An unexplained balance means the import is not complete.
5. Review stablecoin events individually
Open every stablecoin-to-asset swap, stablecoin-to-euro conversion, issuer redemption and protocol interaction. Note whether a balancing payment occurred and retain the platform’s euro valuation and timestamp. Do not apply a blanket “stablecoins are tax-free” or “every stablecoin sale is taxable” rule.

6. Separate income-like activity
Mark staking, mining, lending interest and liquidity-pool receipts separately from ordinary private disposals. The official guidance identifies mining and staking income as BNC and says activity analogous to professional trading may also be taxed as BNC. A calculator can label these events, but it cannot make a definitive legal classification from a menu choice.
7. Generate and inspect the report
Produce the 2086 output for the relevant year. Check the gross proceeds used for the €305 threshold, the gain or loss sent to 3AN or 3BN, deferred exchanges and the handling of same-year losses. Save a PDF or equivalent export together with the detailed transaction file.
8. Complete account reporting separately
Identify qualifying foreign accounts and gather the references needed for 3916-bis or the online filing process. Do this even if the calculator’s gain report is correct.

Private investing versus professional-like activity
French guidance distinguishes private asset management from operations analogous to professional trading. The latter may fall under BNC, with micro-BNC and controlled-declaration routes described in the official material. Frequency, organization, financing, expertise and the facts of the activity can matter. Do not select “private investor” merely because a software setup wizard offers it.
Mining and staking
Mining and staking income are identified separately as BNC in the guidance. Their receipts, dates, valuations and expenses may require treatment that differs from a private disposal calculation. Use the calculator to assemble records, then obtain advice when the amounts are material or the activity is systematic.

Unusual protocols and uncertain redemptions
Liquidity pools, lending, collateral movements, wrapped assets and issuer redemptions can create events that a generic exchange model does not describe well. If the legal nature of the token or the presence of a balancing payment is unclear, ask a French tax professional to review the exact contract and records.
Data, security and service terms
Tax accuracy is only one selection criterion. Before connecting an exchange API, check whether the key can be restricted to read-only access and whether withdrawal permissions are disabled. Read the provider’s retention, deletion, breach-notification, support and export terms. Confirm how you revoke credentials and recover your data if the subscription ends. Compare current pricing and limits directly with the provider; the available official material does not establish a reliable price or security ranking.
Keep immutable copies of exchange exports, wallet transaction files, screenshots of unusual platform events and the final report. A calculator is a processing aid, not your only record.

Regulatory reporting by service providers is not your tax calculation
Decree 2025-1276, effective 1 January 2026, sets reporting obligations for crypto-asset service providers for transactions from that date, with reporting in 2027. It includes exchanges between crypto-assets and exchanges between crypto-assets and central-bank currency. Those provider reports do not independently decide an individual’s income-tax treatment. Your calculator still needs to reconstruct your own records and apply the rules for your status and tax year.
Final pre-filing checklist
- Every exchange, wallet and relevant protocol is represented.
- Original CSV, API and wallet records are preserved.
- Transfers between your own accounts are matched.
- Duplicates, missing records and unexplained balances are resolved.
- Stablecoin swaps, euro conversions, redemptions and fees were reviewed one by one.
- The report states the correct tax year, regime and assumptions.
- The €305 gross-proceeds test and deferred exchanges are visible.
- Gain or loss appears in the expected 2086 output and box 3AN or 3BN.
- Same-year loss limitations are respected; no loss is carried forward improperly.
- Qualifying foreign accounts are prepared for 3916-bis or online account reporting.
- Mining, staking and professional-like activity have been reviewed separately.
- Raw data, corrections and the final report are exported and stored securely.
Choose the service that lets you prove each of these points from your own records. When a material stablecoin transaction remains ambiguous, stop relying on the default classification and obtain French tax advice.
