Choose a Counter-Strike team for reasons that will still matter if a player transfers: match times you can follow, a style you enjoy, players or stories you care about, and a community that feels welcoming. Treat region and rankings as context for Major invitations—not as a test of which team you should support. Before relying on a team-specific claim, check its current lineup, match schedule, Valve Regional Standings (VRS) entry, and the rules for the event in question.
Start with the Counter-Strike you want to watch
A team is easier to follow when its matches fit your life and its games make you want to watch another series. There is no objectively correct team for every viewer, and a ranking cannot tell you whether you will enjoy a team.

Check when and where it plays
Look at the leagues, tournaments, and time zones you can realistically follow. Decide whether you prefer major LAN events, recurring online matches, or a particular regional scene. A strong team whose matches regularly fall at inconvenient hours may be harder to keep up with than a team whose schedule suits you.

Choose the story and kind of continuity you care about
Organization, core, or player?
These are different kinds of fandom. Supporting an organization can continue through transfers and rebuilds. Following a long-running core means your attachment depends more on the group staying together. Following an individual player may mean following that player to a new team. Decide which connection matters most to you before a roster move forces the choice.
How much roster churn is enjoyable?
If you value continuity, look for a team whose core has been stable recently and verify that it still is. If you enjoy watching prospects develop or seeing a rebuild take shape, a team with more movement may suit you better. Stability is not permanent, so treat it as a current characteristic rather than a promise.

Language and community
Consider whether you want to discuss matches in a particular language, follow local coverage, or join a community around a team or player. A welcoming community can matter as much as results, but community fit is personal; try a match discussion or official channel before making it central to your choice.
Use region and the VRS to understand Major paths
For Major invitations, Valve uses three regional VRS lists: Europe, the Americas, and Asia. Valve says a global VRS is used as a seeding reference after invitations are accepted. So a team’s regional assignment can affect its Major invitation path, but it does not tell you whether the team’s play or community is right for you. These are Major rules; do not assume they apply to every tournament. See Valve’s Counter-Strike Major Supplemental Rulebook for the governing rules.

Invitations follow a roster, not just a familiar name
Valve’s Major rulebook says an invited team must have at least three of the five core players identified by the relevant standing accept the invitation. If the team declines or is no longer intact, it does not participate, and the invitation may pass to the next-ranked roster. The five-player core lineup cannot be adjusted between the Major Regional Qualifier (MRQ) and the Major. A recognizable organization name alone therefore does not guarantee that the same roster will keep an invitation.
Regional changes can have a waiting period for Major assignments
HLTV reported on October 6, 2026, that Valve added a rule to its Major Supplemental Rulebook: “A roster is only eligible for a Regional Assignment if they did not appear in any other region’s VRS list in the preceding three calendar months.” HLTV reported that Valve said this restriction applies to invitations for the Singapore Major, not invitations to events outside the Major circuit. Because this rule is recent and event-specific, check the current rulebook and official VRS before drawing conclusions about a particular roster or Major. Read HLTV’s report on Valve’s regional-swap rule.

The announced lineup may not match the active VRS roster
HLTV’s August 5, 2025 report on the VRS model said a player must have played five of a team’s previous ten matches to appear on its active VRS roster. A recent signing or stand-in may therefore not immediately appear in the roster information used for VRS purposes. Check the live official record and the tournament’s own rules after a lineup change; do not infer eligibility from an announcement alone. See HLTV’s account of the VRS model update.
A practical way to compare your finalists
If two or more teams appeal to you, compare them against your own priorities instead of treating rank as the answer.

- Viewing access: Which team’s matches and time zones fit your schedule?
- Play style: Which team’s pace, teamwork, or standout roles do you prefer to watch?
- Continuity: Are you attached to the organization, a core, or a particular player?
- Story: Do you want an established team, a developing roster, or a rebuild?
- Community: Does the language and fan culture suit you?
- Major uncertainty: If qualification matters to you, check the official regional rank, roster integrity, invitation timing, and rules for that event. A current rank does not predict future results or guarantee an invitation.
Before settling on a team-specific view, verify its five-player core, any substitute or stand-in, upcoming matches, current official regional VRS listing, and the applicable rulebook. The official Valve Major Supplemental Rulebook and live VRS are the relevant references for Major invitations; tournament rules may differ elsewhere.
Merchandise is optional
A jersey can be a way to express support once you know which team you want to follow, but it is not a prerequisite for being a fan. Official options include the NAVI merchandise store, Team Vitality’s jersey collection, and the ESL shop. Designs, branding, and availability can change, so check that a listing matches the team and season you want.
