1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThere is no evidence-backed monitor proven to prevent or treat eye strain. The best choice is a screen that makes text easy to read at a comfortable distance, fits your workspace, and can be positioned to reduce glare and neck strain. Monitor features such as low-blue-light modes, anti-glare finishes and flicker reduction may suit personal preferences, but they are not proof of medical protection.
What matters most when choosing a monitor
Start with your desk, tasks and reading comfort rather than a health claim on a product box. Compare screens on these practical points:

- Legibility at your normal viewing distance: Choose a size and resolution that make text comfortable to read without leaning forward. Increase text size or display scaling if necessary; smaller displays may require larger text.
- Positioning: The included stand should let you place the screen directly in front of you, with its top line at or below eye level. Check height and tilt adjustment. Consider a compatible monitor arm only if the stand cannot achieve a comfortable position.
- Glare and room fit: Consider the screen finish and brightness controls, but also where windows and lights are. A matte surface is a feature, not a treatment. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) advises positioning a monitor perpendicular to windows to reduce reflected glare.
- Flicker information: Look for credible documentation about the specific model and how it behaves at different brightness settings. A “flicker-free” label does not establish that every user will have fewer symptoms.
- Work needs and budget: Choose refresh rate, color performance and connectivity for the work you actually do. The available guidance does not establish that a higher refresh rate treats eye strain.
A monitor to investigate—not a proven eye-strain pick
MSI PRO MAX 271PHW E14
MSI’s product page lists low-blue-light, anti-flicker and anti-glare features for the PRO MAX 271PHW E14, along with tilt adjustment, a 144 Hz refresh rate, Eye-Q Check and EyesErgo features. Those specifications make it one model to assess against your workspace and work requirements; they do not show that it reduces eye strain or is medically superior to other monitors. Check the current regional specification and availability on MSI’s official product page.

ASUS describes its Eye Care monitor features as including flicker-free operation, adjustable blue-light filtering, anti-glare screens and ergonomic adjustments. Availability varies by model, so verify the exact specification for any screen you consider on ASUS’s Eye Care monitor page. These are manufacturer-described features, not independent evidence that a monitor treats symptoms.
#1 Best Overall
- CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors
- THE PERFECT VIEW: The 178/178 degree extra wide viewing angle prevents the shifting of colors when viewed from an offset angle, so you always get consistent colors
- WORK SEAMLESSLY: This sleek monitor is virtually bezel-free on three sides, so the screen looks even bigger for the viewer. This minimalistic design also allows for seamless multi-monitor setups that enhance your workflow and boost productivity
- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
Neither example is a hands-on or head-to-head recommendation. No clinically superior model is established by the evidence available here, and a feature list cannot substitute for fit, readable text and a sensible setup.
Set up the screen before buying accessories
- Put it in front of you. OSHA says to place the monitor directly in front of the user and at least 20 inches away. It gives 20–40 inches as a generally preferred viewing distance. The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) suggests about 25 inches or arm’s length. Treat these as starting points: text should remain easy to read without leaning in.
- Set the height and angle. Keep the screen’s top line at or below eye level, as OSHA advises, and aim for a slightly downward gaze, as the AAO recommends. Adjust the stand first; use an arm only if needed and only after checking mount compatibility, monitor weight and desk fit.
- Manage reflections and room lighting. Position the screen perpendicular to windows where practical. Adjust brightness and contrast, and reduce nearby lighting if it is contributing to glare. OSHA’s workstation environment guidance covers lighting and glare considerations.
- Make text comfortable. Increase text size or scaling rather than moving closer when small text is hard to read. OSHA notes that smaller displays may require larger text.
- Look away and blink. Take periodic distance-viewing breaks. The AAO offers the 20-20-20 habit: every 20 minutes, look at something at least 20 feet away for 20 seconds. It is a simple reminder, not a guarantee that symptoms will resolve.
- Address dryness appropriately. Screen staring can reduce blinking. Daniel Porter’s AAO article, reviewed by Alejandra G. de Alba-Campomanes, MD, MPH, says people normally blink around 15 times a minute and screen staring can cut that rate in half. Blink deliberately; if your eyes feel dry, the AAO lists artificial tears as an option.
Blue-light filters are not eye-disease protection
AAO states that digital eye discomfort is not caused by blue light and that the small amount of blue light from computer screens has not been shown to harm the eyes. It does not recommend special blue-light glasses for computer use. A warm-color or night mode may be a personal preference, particularly in the evening; AAO notes that evening screen light may affect sleep timing and suggests reducing evening exposure or using night mode. Do not treat these settings or glasses as protection against screen-caused eye disease.

When discomfort calls for more than a monitor change
AAO describes digital-device discomfort as potentially temporary, with symptoms including dry eyes, blurry vision, tearing and headaches. Adjusting the setup, brightness, nearby lighting and viewing habits may help with comfort. If symptoms persist, seek advice from an eye-care professional rather than assuming a different monitor will solve the problem. See the AAO’s Digital Devices and Your Eyes guidance and its explanation of blue light and eye health.
