For a new setup, choose Samsung Gallery Cloud Sync with a Google Account if you want selected photos tied to Samsung Gallery and accept that deleting a synced item can remove it from the cloud too. Choose Google Photos backup for its separate app controls, folder selection and backup-status checks. Choose OneDrive camera backup if your photo library or storage is already with Microsoft. One important change: Samsung Gallery’s direct OneDrive sync ended on September 30, 2026; existing OneDrive files remain available, but new uploads require OneDrive’s Android app.
What changed with Samsung Gallery and OneDrive?
Samsung Gallery no longer syncs directly with OneDrive. Microsoft says the integration ended on September 30, 2026. Photos and videos already stored in OneDrive remain there and can still be accessed through OneDrive, but the former link no longer brings those cloud files into Samsung Gallery. To continue uploading new photos, enable Camera backup in the OneDrive app and grant it photo and video access. Microsoft’s transition notice explains the change.

Google documents both Samsung Gallery sync and Google Photos backup. Do not assume that backing up with Google Photos makes the entire Google Photos library appear in Samsung Gallery.

Decide whether you want sync or a separate backup
Samsung Gallery Cloud Sync with Google: changes travel both ways
Google describes Gallery Cloud Sync as a sync relationship, not an independent archival copy. If you delete a synced photo in Samsung Gallery or Google Photos, it is removed from the other app and cloud storage as well. Be cautious about using deletion as a way to free phone space, and do not treat this setup as a second, untouched copy.
Google says synced Gallery media uses original quality and counts against Google Account storage. It may not appear in Google Photos features such as Search, Memories and Live albums unless you also back it up through Google Photos. See Google’s explanation of Gallery sync for the current behavior.

Google Photos backup: use its own controls
Google Photos has its own backup switch, device-folder choices, overall completion status and per-item status. Google also documents separate cloud-deletion and “Undo device backup” workflows. Before removing cloud items, check the app’s instructions and make sure backup is off on devices where you want local items to remain. Google’s Android backup guide describes these controls.

OneDrive camera backup is managed in the OneDrive Android app. Its behavior should not be confused with the discontinued Gallery link: check the OneDrive app and account to confirm which files have uploaded and where they are stored.

Set up the option that fits
Turn on Samsung Gallery Cloud Sync with Google
- On a supported Samsung phone, open Samsung Gallery and find its cloud-sync setting. Availability and labels can vary by phone, app version and rollout.
- Choose the Google Account to use and select the albums or media to sync.
- Review which folders are included. You can stop syncing the main camera roll while continuing to sync selected folders.
- Before deleting synced items, confirm you understand that deletion propagates to the other app and cloud storage.

Turn on backup in Google Photos
- Open Google Photos and sign in to the Google Account that should hold the backup.
- Open the profile menu, then go to Photos settings > Backup.
- Turn on Backup, check the selected upload quality and choose which device folders to include. Review whether new device folders should be backed up automatically.
- Check the overall status for Backup complete. To verify an individual photo or video, open it and check its backup status.
These controls are described in Google’s Android backup guide. Uploads can be affected by connectivity, app state, battery or data settings, and available account storage.

Turn on OneDrive camera backup
- Install or open OneDrive for Android and sign in to the Microsoft account where the photos should go.
- In the app, open your profile or account menu and choose Settings > Camera backup. Labels may vary by app version.
- Enable camera backup and grant the requested photo and video permissions. Check whether the app has access to all the photos and videos you intend to upload.
- Review the camera folder and any additional device folders you want included, along with video-upload settings.
- Confirm the correct account, available OneDrive storage and upload status. If uploads pause, check connectivity, permissions, battery or data restrictions and quota.

Check storage before committing
Google Gallery sync uses original-quality storage from the Google Account. Google Photos backup has its own upload-quality setting and also uses account storage. OneDrive uploads must fit within the available OneDrive quota. The right amount and cost depend on your account and country, so check the storage or plan screen in the relevant app or account rather than relying on a universal free-space or price figure.

Folder controls also differ: Gallery Cloud Sync lets you select albums, Google Photos lets you choose device folders and whether new ones are included, and OneDrive can add device folders such as social-media or editing folders. Review those selections so private or unwanted folders are not uploaded by mistake.
What about Samsung Cloud?
Samsung Cloud supports selected device-data sync and backup/restore categories, and the supported content varies by device and operating-system version. Samsung’s overview does not establish it as a universal photo-library replacement. Check the backup categories available on your particular phone before relying on it for photos. Verify the backup before deleting anything
- Confirm that the intended account is signed in to the backup app.
- Check the service’s overall status and inspect one or more individual photos or videos for completed upload.
- Confirm that the folders you care about are selected and that video upload is enabled if needed.
- Check that the account has available storage and the phone can upload over its current connection and battery/data settings.
- Do not delete local originals until you have verified the cloud copy and understand how deletion works in that specific service.
