Pick your AION 2 class by the job you want in a group and the combat loop you enjoy, not by a “best class” list. NCSOFT’s official material gives each of the eight classes a clear identity, but it publishes no tier ranking, and balance has been reworked since launch. Start with the role (tank, damage, healing, support), then narrow by range and mode (solo, group PvE, PvP).
What NCSOFT says each class is for
NCSOFT’s May 30, 2025 announcement introduced eight classes with these broad identities:

| Class (2025 name) | Official identity | Role signal |
|---|---|---|
| Gladiator | Powerful, wide-area skill attacks | Melee damage |
| Templar | Core tanking role | Tank |
| Assassin | Precision-based melee specialist | Melee damage |
| Marksman | Long-range scout class | Ranged damage |
| Sorcerer | High burst magic damage | Magic damage |
| Spiritmaster | Optimized for solo play | Summon/caster, solo-oriented |
| Cleric | Improved damage capabilities | Healer with more offense |
| Chanter | Versatile support with multiplayer utility | Group support |
These are summaries, not skill guides. Third-party guides go further, for example treating Cleric as the primary healer and Chanter as a flexible support. Treat that as community interpretation and confirm it in the in-game skill tooltips.

The names changed between sources. NCSOFT’s March 25, 2026 update calls the ranged class Ranger and the solo-oriented caster Elementalist. The 2025 announcement used Marksman and Spiritmaster. This looks like a version or localization difference, so confirm which names your regional client uses before you search for guides. Guides written for one naming set can be hard to match to the other.

A five-question way to decide
1. What responsibility do you want?
Choose from four jobs: holding enemy attention and protecting allies, dealing damage, restoring allies, or improving the group through support. Tanking and healing put visible responsibility on you, because the group notices when they go wrong. Damage roles differ more in range, timing and positioning.
2. What should combat feel like?
- Close-range and wide-area: Gladiator.
- Close-range and precise: Assassin.
- Long-range weapon attacks: Marksman/Ranger.
- Burst magic: Sorcerer.
- Summon-oriented, solo-leaning: Spiritmaster/Elementalist.
- Hybrid healing and offense or buffing: Cleric and Chanter.
3. Do you mostly play solo or in groups?
NCSOFT explicitly describes Spiritmaster as solo-optimized and Chanter as multiplayer support. Templar is the clearest official tank signal. Those labels describe intent only. They do not prove which class is the strongest soloist.
Rank #2
4. Is PvE or PvP your priority?
Strength in one mode may not carry over to the other. The March 2026 update separated PvP and PvE damage calculations, so a class can be adjusted for one mode without changing the other.

5. How much complexity do you want?
No official source ranks classes by difficulty, so judge by mechanics you can see. Do you want to manage positioning, ranged kiting, burst timing, summons, or group-wide responsibility? Be wary of anyone who calls a class objectively easy or hard.

Quick recommendations by player type
- You like leading from the front: Templar.
- You like enabling a group: Chanter, or Cleric if you want healing.
- You expect to play alone often: Spiritmaster (Elementalist in the 2026 naming).
- You want to deal damage: compare Gladiator, Assassin, Marksman/Ranger and Sorcerer by range and burst versus sustained pressure.
This is a role-based guide, not a damage ranking.
Party size and composition: verify first
NCSOFT’s 2025 announcement described more than 200 dungeons, from solo instances to group dungeons for four or eight players. A current community guide describes a five-player group structure. The two may reflect different versions, regions or content types. For that reason, don’t build a fixed “ideal party” around one number. Check the party size of the activity you plan to run.
NCSOFT also says the world is over 36 times larger than the original AION. That is the company’s own comparison, not an independent measurement, and it doesn’t bear on class choice.

Balance is a moving target
NCSOFT’s March 25, 2026 update included a comprehensive class rebalance and new Stigma skills for all eight classes, with a maximum of five Stigma slots. The new skills were:
- Gladiator: Fracturing Rush
- Templar: Battlefield Banner
- Assassin: Shadowstep
- Ranger: Supporting Fire
- Sorcerer: Hibernation
- Elementalist: Command: Proxy
- Cleric: Reincarnating Touch
- Chanter: Barrier Spell
No official tier list was found. An independent guide likewise says class rankings are community opinion and shift with patches. Use rankings as a snapshot, and read the newest patch notes for your region before committing to a build.

On NCSOFT’s design intent
Seunguk Baek, NCSOFT’s Chief Business Officer and head of AION2 development, said in the May 2025 announcement: “AION2 is our vision of a complete evolution of AION. Our focus has been on both honoring the original IP and pushing it forward.” The eight-role lineup fits that approach: familiar archetypes, rebuilt for the new game.
The Bottom Line
Decide your role first, then your combat style, then your mode. If you’re undecided, Templar (tank), Chanter (support) and Spiritmaster/Elementalist (solo) are the three classes NCSOFT most clearly labels for those purposes. Treat any class ranking as temporary.
