Choose a church website theme by matching it to the work your site must do—not by counting demos. Put service times, location and a clear first-visit path within easy reach, then verify that the theme and its required plugins can handle your sermons, events, ministries, people pages and giving workflows. The available examples below are useful starting points, not a verified list of 43 current products.

What a church website theme needs to support

Start with the needs of someone deciding whether to visit, then consider what staff and volunteers must publish regularly. A visually appealing homepage is less useful if newcomers cannot find service details or the team cannot maintain the calendar and sermon archive.

  • For visitors: service times, address, directions or a map, and a prominent “Plan a Visit” or “What to Expect” page.
  • For regular publishing: sermons in the formats you use, series and speaker information where needed, and an event calendar.
  • For church life: ministry pages and staff or leadership profiles.
  • For participation: contact and prayer forms, giving, and livestream or video links if your church provides them.
  • For maintainers: a mobile-friendly presentation and an editing workflow volunteers can manage.

These functions may come from the theme, bundled plugins, separately installed plugins, or embedded services. Before choosing, identify which component supplies each function; a theme demo alone does not establish that every feature is included.

Compare the available routes

Route Examples in the available sources What to verify
Church-focused theme package ChurchThemes.com lists Jubilee, Saved, Maranatha, Exodus and Resurrect. The vendor says its themes include the Church Content plugin for sermons, events, locations and other church content, with starter content, guides and support in its package. Check current package terms, theme and plugin compatibility, support details, and which functions still need external services.
Individual church theme Jubilee is described by its vendor as having a point-and-click homepage builder, Customizer, starter content, responsive design, sermon archive, event calendar, locations, team profiles, ministry pages and support for a “Plan a Visit” page. Confirm the current feature set and editing requirements. “Fast loading” is a vendor claim, not an independent performance result.
Free WordPress.org directory theme Church Services is listed in the WordPress.org UK directory. The listing describes event management, sermon audio and video, donations, newsletter signup and social integration. Check the current version, update date, active-install count, compatibility and support information in the directory before installing.
Marketplace discovery ThemeForest’s church WordPress category showed 211 results when accessed October 7, 2026; its filters included Elementor, Events Calendar, WooCommerce and WPML. For each candidate, inspect its current changelog, supported WordPress version, included plugins, author support and refund terms. A category listing is not an endorsement.

The WordPress.org UK listing for Church Services showed version 3.9.2, last updated July 17, 2026, and 100+ active installations when accessed October 7, 2026. These are changing directory details, not a guarantee of compatibility or ongoing maintenance.

How to shortlist themes without being misled by demos

Map recurring tasks to features

Write down who will publish sermons, update events, answer contact requests and maintain ministry or staff pages. For each task, establish whether the theme supplies a content type or layout, whether a plugin is needed, and whether a third-party account or service is involved. Giving processing, livestream hosting, calendars, forms and sermon podcasting may depend on services outside the theme.

Test the visitor path on a phone

Open the demo on a mobile device and look for service times, address, directions and the first-visit page without relying on a desktop navigation menu. Then check sermon and event pages at the screen size most visitors are likely to use. Vendors describe some themes as responsive, but that does not independently establish usability or performance on your own site.

Match the editor to the people who will maintain the site

Find out whether editing uses the WordPress Customizer, a theme-specific point-and-click tool, a page builder, or another workflow. Confirm whether required builders or plugins are included and who updates them. A theme that is easy for its initial designer can still be difficult for volunteers who inherit it.

Check support, updates and portability

Review recent changelog entries and compatibility statements for the current WordPress version and required plugins. Read the support policy and clarify what happens to content if the church changes themes or stops paying for a package. Content stored by a plugin may remain available independently of a theme, but that depends on the actual setup; do not assume a demo establishes migration behavior.

What the current examples establish—and what they do not

ChurchThemes.com presents a package-oriented option: its catalog names five church themes and says the Church Content plugin is included, alongside starter content, guides and support. Jubilee is the most specifically described example, with vendor-stated tools and layouts for common church pages. These are vendor descriptions, not independent tests of speed, accessibility or ease of use.

The Church Services entry provides a free directory listing to investigate, while ThemeForest offers a broad category for discovering individual products. Neither listing count nor a directory presence proves that a specific theme is the right fit. Recheck current details directly before committing.

The available 2026 roundup from AvenixThemes, dated September 18, 2026, lists 34 options—not 43—and its rankings are vendor-authored. The evidence here therefore does not validate 43 current themes. Treat any longer list as a shortlist to verify item by item rather than an audited catalog.
