For an RTX 5090 build, compare 4K monitors by the image and refresh rate you want, then verify the exact resolution, refresh rate, HDR, variable refresh rate (VRR) and Display Stream Compression (DSC) supported by the input you will use. A 4K 240Hz monitor is a sensible high-end category to consider; NVIDIA’s stated support for signals up to 4K at 480Hz with DSC is a connection capability, not a promise of 480 frames per second in games.
How to choose a 4K gaming monitor for an RTX 5090 PC
Start with how you play and what you want the display to look like. Then match those preferences against the monitor’s documented input modes and your budget. The GPU’s maximum supported display signal can help establish compatibility, but it cannot tell you how many frames a particular game will render at your chosen settings.

- Choose the display experience: Decide which panel characteristics, screen size and flat or curved shape suit you. Panel preference is personal; the specifications cited here do not establish that one panel technology is best for everyone.
- Set a refresh-rate target: Consider 4K 240Hz if smooth motion and high refresh are important to you. Whether a game makes use of that refresh rate depends on its workload, settings and realized frame rate.
- Check VRR and NVIDIA compatibility: Look for the exact certification and supported modes on the monitor you are considering rather than assuming compatibility from the GPU alone.
- Verify the input mode you will use: Confirm the resolution, refresh rate, HDR, VRR and DSC support for that specific HDMI or DisplayPort input.
- Compare the practical terms: Check current local price, stock, warranty and return policy before buying; these vary by market and date.
What the RTX 5090’s display specifications mean
NVIDIA lists three DisplayPort 2.1b UHBR20 connectors and one HDMI 2.1b connector for the GeForce RTX 5090. Its product specifications state: “Up to 4K 12-bit HDR at 480Hz with DP 2.1b + DSC or HDMI 2.1b +DSC.” This is NVIDIA’s stated display-signal capability, verified against its product page on October 7, 2026—not an independent measurement or an in-game frame-rate result. Is 4K 240Hz a good target?
It is a reasonable high-refresh category to compare for a high-end RTX 5090 setup if you value smooth motion and play games that can benefit from a high refresh rate. It is not a guarantee that the GPU will render every game at 240 frames per second—or even close to that—at 4K. The cited manufacturer specifications establish display support, not game performance benchmarks.
The RTX 5090’s stated signal ceiling reaches beyond 240Hz, but you do not need to buy a 480Hz display simply because the GPU can support a signal up to that level. Choose based on your preferred experience, the games and settings you use, and the monitor’s documented compatibility.

- Quality Visuals: The VG270K 27" IPS monitor with 3840 x 2160 UHD resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio presents stunning, high-quality images with excellent detail. The zero-frame design does away with the thick frames found on conventional monitors freeing up precious screen space.
- AMD FreeSync Premium Technology: Say “goodbye” to stuttering and tearing. With AMD FreeSync Premium, the monitor’s frames are synced with the graphics card’s frames, which eliminates screen tearing and provides the smoothest gaming experience.
- Quick Refresh Rate: Different content has different refresh rate and resolution requirements. If you are playing an FPS or racing game, you will need a monitor with a high refresh rate. However, if you are doing office work or streaming videos, a higher resolution will be more beneficial. With DFR technology, users can choose a higher resolution, or a higher refresh rate based on what is suitable for them.
- Responsive: Up to 0.5ms GTG (Gray to Gray) response time enhanced gamers’ in-game experience. No matter if the fast-moving action or any dramatic transitions will be rendered smoothly without the annoying effects of smearing or ghosting.
- ZeroFrame Design: With a Nitro VG270K monitor, you’ll want to see as much of the display as possible. Get more real estate with the near bezel-less design, allowing you to see more and do more. The ZeroFrame design lets you place multiple monitors next to each other for a seamless, almost uninterrupted view.
Check every input’s supported modes
Read the monitor’s specifications for each input separately. Confirm that the exact port supports your intended 4K refresh rate and determine whether HDR, VRR and DSC are supported in that same mode. Use a suitable cable for the selected connection, and consult the monitor’s instructions if its specifications distinguish among ports or configurations.
