A 20,000 mAh power bank can fast-charge a phone or tablet, but capacity alone does not determine charging speed. Match the device’s supported charging protocol and input power to the power bank’s output on the port you will use, then check how that output changes when other ports are occupied.
Start with your device’s charging requirements
Look up the exact phone or tablet model’s supported charging standard and input wattage. Then choose a power bank that explicitly supports that standard and can supply at least the desired power from the port you plan to use. The advertised maximum is not a guaranteed charging speed: a compatible device and power bank negotiate power, and the device draws only what it supports under the current conditions.

USB Implementers Forum describes USB Power Delivery (USB PD) as enabling flexible power delivery along with data over a single cable. Its overview also says USB PD Revision 3.1 supports up to 240W over a full-featured USB Type-C cable and connector; that is a limit of the standard, not a claim about what a particular phone, bank, or cable can deliver. Check whether the device needs PPS
Some devices and fast-charging combinations use USB PD Programmable Power Supply (PPS). PPS is not required for every phone, and seeing “PPS” on a power bank does not guarantee a particular phone will reach its top charging speed. Compare the device’s requirements with the bank’s listed PPS output ranges and port specifications.

Compare output per port and when ports are shared
Read the detailed output table for the exact model, not just the headline wattage. A bank may offer a high maximum from one USB-C port when used alone, then allocate less power to that port when a second device is connected. Check both the individual port limits and the combined output for the port combination you expect to use.
For example, Anker’s published specifications for its Prime 20,000 mAh 200W bank list up to 100W from each USB-C port, up to 65W from USB-A, and up to 200W total. The page also lists PD and PPS modes and two USB-C ports plus one USB-A port. These figures describe that model, not all power banks. See Anker’s model-specific output and compatibility details; its listed phone and tablet families are examples, not a guarantee that every named device charges at its maximum speed.

Understand what 20,000 mAh tells you
mAh describes charge capacity at a stated cell voltage; it does not tell you how much charge reaches a device after voltage conversion and other losses. Anker says its 20,100 mAh Prime model provides about 11,250 mAh after conversion. That is a manufacturer figure for this specific model, not a universal conversion ratio or a reliable promise of a fixed number of phone charges. Check the manufacturer’s capacity details for that product.

Check the other specifications that affect daily use
- Recharge speed: Check the bank’s USB-C input rating. A high output rating does not mean the bank itself recharges quickly; a suitable wall charger may be needed to reach its input limit.
- Ports and cables: Make sure the connectors fit your devices and that the bank has enough ports for your usual setup. For fast charging, the cable must also support the required power and protocol.
- Size and practical features: Compare weight, dimensions, included cable, display, warranty, and price on current product pages. Those details vary by model and are not established by the output ratings alone.
- Independent evidence: Manufacturer specifications describe claimed capabilities; consult independent tests if you need measured performance or comparisons. No comparative test results are cited here.
Check wattage, compatibility, and shared output before buying
When comparing listings for a 20,000 mAh USB-C PD power bank, use this checklist rather than choosing by capacity or maximum wattage alone:
- Confirm the exact phone or tablet’s charging protocol and supported input power.
- Find a bank that lists that protocol, including PPS if the device requires it.
- Verify the output limit on the specific port you will use.
- Check the output-sharing table for the number and combination of devices you charge together.
- Compare capacity, Wh, input rating, port layout, cable needs, size, and current model details.
Before purchasing, verify compatibility against the manufacturer’s current specifications for both the device and power bank.

For flights, use the printed Wh rating
Do not decide whether a bank is permitted on a flight from “20,000 mAh” alone: eligibility depends on the battery’s Wh rating and the applicable rules. The FAA’s PackSafe poster places power banks rated 0–100 Wh in an allowed category and says power banks must be carried on.
