The count reports recorded connections; it does not by itself prove that water is currently flowing or that the service is regular, adequate or safe.
Where can I check village-wise Jal Jeevan Mission progress?
JJM’s public dashboard reports rural household and public-institution tap-water progress at State/UT, district and village levels. The Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, describes this scope in its Jal Jeevan Mission Booklet. Start from the official JJM website and open the household tap-water supply dashboard linked there. The dashboard is the right place to check a village’s recorded progress—not a neighbour’s connection or a national headline.

How to look up your village
- Open the JJM website and follow its link to the household tap-water supply dashboard.
- Use the dashboard’s available location controls to select your State or Union Territory, district and village. Labels and controls may change, so follow the current page rather than relying on a fixed button name.
- Read the household totals displayed for the village. Record the number of rural households, households with tap connections and any remaining-household figure if shown.
- Write down the dashboard’s “as on” date with the figures. Values can change as progress is updated, and not every field or a history view is guaranteed to appear.
JJM also lists its Management Information System (IMIS), Water Quality Management Information System (WQMIS) and Field User App among its linked services on the official JJM website. An official JJM publication describes the mobile app as providing navigation to the dashboard, WQMIS and IMIS, along with features such as real-time progress and geo-tagging. Those are features described in a 2021-era publication; check the current app listing for present availability and capabilities.
What does “covered” mean on the dashboard?
A village-level household connection count is administrative progress information: it indicates how many household tap connections have been reported. JJM’s stated mission goal is to support States and Union Territories in providing every rural household with a Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC), with adequate quantity, prescribed quality and regular supply. A recorded connection is not proof that each of those service conditions is currently being met.

A connection count alone does not establish current flow, continuity, pressure, quantity or potability. Treat those as separate questions from whether a connection has been recorded.

Ask the Gram Panchayat or its water and sanitation subcommittee, commonly called the Paani Samiti or Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC), to verify the local record. JJM assigns these bodies roles in planning and managing in-village water infrastructure.

- Give the village name and the dashboard figure you saw.
- Include the dashboard’s “as on” date so the local body can identify the record you are asking about.
- Describe the specific mismatch—for example, a household connection that appears absent from the count, or a recorded connection where service is not functioning.
The public information establishes a way to view reported progress; it does not establish that users can directly edit records or set up dashboard alerts. For a local discrepancy, seek verification through the Gram Panchayat or Paani Samiti.
