On an accessible Xiaomi phone, open Settings > About phone (or, on some models, Settings > My device). Record the exact model identifier, the Android version, the MIUI or HyperOS version, and what the system updater reports. Then match those details with the official Xiaomi specifications for the phone’s country and confirm the seller’s market and channel. A family name such as “Xiaomi 14” is not enough to verify a particular regional variant.
Start with the phone’s information screen
The safest pre-purchase check is performed on the handset itself, not from a product title or photograph. Xiaomi’s general instructions direct users to Settings > About phone; its firmware guidance also uses Settings > My device for the model, MIUI version, processor and other device information. Read the labels exactly as the phone displays them, because menu names and layout differ between models and software generations.

|---|---|---|
| Exact model identifier | About phone; on the Xiaomi 14T, About phone > Detailed info and specs > Model | Different regional variants can share a family name while having different specifications, software or network support. |
| MIUI or HyperOS information | About phone or My device | This identifies Xiaomi’s software interface and build information; it is not the same thing as the Android version. |
| Android version | About phone; Xiaomi’s Xiaomi 14T instructions show Android version on this screen | Android’s version number is a separate compatibility and security detail. |
| Processor and other device details | My device or the detailed information screen | These details help you compare the handset with the correct market-specific specification page. |
Identify the exact model, not just the family name
Use the model field on the handset
Open Settings > About phone > Detailed info and specs on a Xiaomi 14T and scroll to Model. That is Xiaomi’s model-specific route; another Xiaomi, Redmi or POCO device may place the same information elsewhere or use a different label. If the phone is not a 14T, use the equivalent detailed-information screen rather than assuming the 14T path is universal.

Xiaomi says that knowing the exact model number helps avoid incorrect purchases and supports better after-sales service. The practical reason is that a product family can contain country-specific radios, storage configurations, firmware channels or naming variations. Copy the identifier character for character, including letters, numbers and suffixes, before checking specifications.
“Here’s the way to check the phone model, MIUI version, processor and other information, it is suggested to go to the phone’s Settings — My device, to check.” — Xiaomi Global Support
Match the identifier to the correct market page
Once you have the identifier, search Xiaomi’s official product information for the buyer’s country or region and confirm that the model code matches. Do not use a global family page to validate a phone sold as an imported, China-market or otherwise regional unit unless the page explicitly covers that market. A listing that says only “Xiaomi 14T,” “Redmi Note” or another family name has not established the exact variant.
Record the seller’s stated country, storage and memory configuration, and model code beside the value shown in Settings. If any one of those differs, pause the purchase and ask the seller to explain the discrepancy. Specifications should be compared only after the model and market agree.
Separate Android from MIUI or HyperOS
Read both labels independently
Android is the underlying operating-system version. MIUI and HyperOS are Xiaomi’s software interface and firmware naming. They may appear together on the About phone screen, but they are not interchangeable. Write down each displayed value instead of describing the phone simply as “Android” or “HyperOS.”
For Xiaomi’s Xiaomi 14T example, open Settings > About phone and scroll to Android version. Xiaomi describes that handset as using an Android-based system with the Xiaomi HyperOS interface. On other models, the Android entry can be positioned differently, so look for the field explicitly labelled Android version.
The Xiaomi 14T Android-version instructions are published at How to check the Android version on the Xiaomi 14T?. The general firmware article at Xiaomi Global Support identifies MIUI version as a separate device detail.

- Photograph or transcribe the full MIUI or HyperOS version string, including any regional or build suffix shown.
- Record the Android version on its own line.
- Note the security-update date if the screen displays one; do not substitute it for the Android or interface version.
- Ask whether the phone is running official software for the market where you will use it, especially when the seller describes it as imported or refurbished.
A seller’s statement that a phone is “updated” is ambiguous unless you know which of these values it refers to. A newer HyperOS interface label does not automatically tell you the Android release, and an Android release number does not prove that the handset is on the latest regional firmware.

Check update availability and support context
Use the on-device HyperOS updater
On a HyperOS device, open Settings > About phone/tablet, tap the Xiaomi HyperOS icon, then open the three-dot menu for additional system-update settings. Xiaomi UK gives the direct check path as Settings > About phone > Xiaomi HyperOS icon > Check for updates. The exact wording can vary by device, but the About phone screen is the starting point.
Instructions for the additional settings are available in Xiaomi’s HyperOS support article. If the updater reports that no update is available, that means none is currently offered to that device and channel; it does not prove that the model will never receive another release.
Interpret Xiaomi’s general support statement carefully
Xiaomi UK says the general smartphone update cycle is around 2–3 years and notes that older models may stop receiving updates. This is broad vendor guidance, not a guaranteed support period for a particular model, region or purchase date. Do not turn it into a promise that every Xiaomi phone receives updates for exactly three years.
When update availability is important, check the exact model, region and current software on the phone. Xiaomi advises confirming that the device came through an official Xiaomi channel in the relevant country when investigating update problems; for other sales channels, it recommends contacting the retailer. A parallel-import phone can therefore have a different update path from an otherwise similar local unit.
Use rollout announcements as schedules, not guarantees
Xiaomi’s global HyperOS 3 page lists rollout groups for global products outside mainland China. The page printed windows of October–November 2025, November–December 2025 and December 2025–March 2026. Those are schedule windows stated on that page, not proof that a specific handset already received the update, and they are historical relative to a purchase made after those periods.
| HyperOS 3 window shown by Xiaomi | How to interpret it |
|---|---|
| October–November 2025 | A listed rollout window on the global page; it does not verify installation on an individual unit. |
| November–December 2025 | A planned group window subject to model and regional variation. |
| December 2025–March 2026 | A later planned group window; the page warns that schedules can change. |
Xiaomi warns that the supported-device list and timing can change and that release timing varies by model and region. Treat any rollout list as evidence of Xiaomi’s stated plan at the time of publication, then rely on the handset’s updater and current regional support information for the unit you are considering.
Verify the seller, region and listing
Ask for evidence that can be checked
Request a live photograph or video showing the About phone screen, the model field and the software-version entries. Ask the seller to include the device’s region or sales market in writing, and compare the model identifier with the official specifications for that market. A screenshot should show enough of the interface to establish that it came from the device, not from a generic product page.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a used or refurbished phone, also ask the seller to show the updater screen and state whether the device was reset, repaired or imported. These questions do not authenticate every aspect of a handset, but they expose mismatches before money changes hands.

Do not confuse a listing with an inspection
A product title, stock photograph or seller-supplied specification table can describe a different variant from the one shipped. The cited Xiaomi instructions all rely on opening Settings on the phone; they do not establish a way to authenticate installed software on an unopened, sealed handset from a listing alone. If the seller cannot provide on-device evidence, treat the model and software claims as unverified and use a return policy that allows inspection.
Check the sales channel when updates matter
Confirm whether the phone was sold through an official Xiaomi channel in your country. Xiaomi’s UK support guidance specifically points buyers toward the local official channel when an update is missing and toward the retailer for other channels. This is a support and update-risk check, not a claim that every non-official seller is fraudulent.

Only after this worksheet agrees should you compare the hardware specifications on Xiaomi’s market-specific pages. The available support instructions explain where to find identifiers and software details; they do not establish which handset has better performance, camera quality, battery life or value. Those are separate purchasing questions requiring separate evidence.
Troubleshoot missing menus and conflicting information
The labels do not match
Xiaomi uses different menu wording across models and software generations. Try the Settings search field for About phone, My device, Model, Android version or system update. If a search result opens a device-information page with different headings, record the values shown there rather than forcing the phone into the Xiaomi 14T path.
You can see HyperOS but not an update
Open the Xiaomi HyperOS icon from About phone and use the three-dot menu to view update settings. Check that the phone is connected to the internet and that you are checking the correct regional device, but do not infer a hardware fault solely from a delayed rollout. Xiaomi’s rollout page warns that timing varies by model and region.
The model on the box differs from the screen
Stop the transaction until the seller explains the difference. The handset’s About phone identifier is the relevant evidence for installed hardware and software; the box, listing and family name should agree with it. Ask for the local product page that covers that precise identifier and retain the seller’s written explanation.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The seller refuses an on-device check
Classify the model, software version and update status as unverified. For a sealed phone, ask whether inspection is allowed before the return period expires. Do not treat a rollout announcement or a generic specification image as a substitute for the device screen.
Final pre-purchase checklist
- Open Settings > About phone, or Settings > My device where that is the device’s label.
- Copy the exact model identifier; on a Xiaomi 14T, use About phone > Detailed info and specs > Model.
- Match that identifier to Xiaomi’s official specifications for the country where you will use the phone.
- Record Android version separately from the MIUI or HyperOS version.
- Open the HyperOS updater and note whether an update is currently offered.
- Confirm the seller’s region, memory/storage configuration and sales channel.
- Ask for on-device evidence when the handset is used, imported, refurbished or still sealed.
- Treat rollout dates and the general “around 2–3 years” update statement as qualified guidance, not a model-specific guarantee.
- Do not pay until discrepancies between the listing, box and About phone screen are resolved in writing.
What these checks prove—and what they do not
These checks establish the handset’s displayed model and software state, provide a basis for matching the correct regional specifications, and show whether Xiaomi’s updater currently offers a release. They do not independently prove future update duration, resale value, camera performance, battery endurance, network quality or the seller’s handling history. Use the exact identifier and market as the foundation for those separate checks, and keep every conclusion as narrow as the evidence on the phone supports.
