Paid plans mainly increase the shared usage allowance, while higher tiers add entitlements such as Grok Bot. What you can use on Grok for free
The October 2, 2026 announcement for the Free X Subscription plan says free members get “daily access to Grok Chat, Imagine, Voice, and Build,” with limited usage. It also mentions a starter allowance for coding agents. That means you can try Grok’s core chat, image-generation, voice and building experiences without entering a paid subscription, but access is not unlimited.

- Grok Chat: conversational answers and other chat functions, subject to a free limit that can vary by account.
- Imagine: image-generation access on a limited daily basis.
- Voice: voice conversations with a separate free allowance and reset schedule.
- Build: access to the Build experience, also limited rather than unrestricted.
- Coding agents: the launch announcement describes a starter allowance, but it does not publish a universal number for every account.
The public material does not provide one permanent number of messages, images, voice minutes or builds that applies to every free user. Do not treat a limit shown in another person’s account, an old article or a screenshot as your entitlement. Your signed-in Usage view is the authoritative indication for the account you are using.

The current X Subscription documentation lists five tiers. Its usage labels are relative to Plus rather than fixed message counts: Plus is the base level, Premium is four times Plus, Super is 15 times Plus and Ultra is 50 times Plus. These are plan-level multipliers, not a promise that you will receive a particular number of prompts or generations every week.

|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 per month; $0 per year | Limited | Daily access to Grok Chat, Imagine, Voice and Build; the announcement also mentions a starter coding-agent allowance. |
| Plus | $8 per month; $80 per year | Base | The documentation does not state that Plus includes Grok Bot. |
| Premium | $30 per month; $300 per year | 4 times Plus | Includes Grok Bot under The X Subscription. |
| Super | $100 per month; $1,000 per year | 15 times Plus | Includes Grok Bot under The X Subscription. |
| Ultra | $200 per month; $2,000 per year | 50 times Plus | Includes Grok Bot under The X Subscription. |
Prices are the published list prices and exclude sales tax; tax may be added where required. Annual prices are not evidence that every account will see the same checkout total, because taxes, billing channel and plan availability can affect what is displayed. Verify the amount on the checkout screen immediately before paying.
Paid access is not a single “unlock everything” switch. A higher tier can raise the shared allowance, but a feature still has to be listed as included in that tier. For example, Grok Bot is listed for Premium, Super and Ultra, not Plus.
How Grok usage limits work
Paid plans use a shared weekly pool
The consumer FAQ describes one weekly usage pool for paid users across the covered products. Usage is shared across Grok, Grok Bot and Cursor rather than giving each product a completely separate allowance. If you spend the pool in one product, less remains for the others.
When the paid weekly limit is reached, paid features pause until the pool resets. The documented options are to wait for the reset, buy Extra Usage Credits on the web when offered, or upgrade. Extra credits are an additional purchase, not part of the advertised subscription price, so check the amount and terms before confirming one.
Free limits are described separately
Free Chat and Voice limits are handled separately from the paid weekly pool and reset on their own schedule. The published materials reviewed do not give universal numerical quotas or a single reset time for every free feature. Imagine and Build availability can likewise be limited without a public, account-independent number.

Why two users can see different limits
Entitlements can depend on the subscription tier, account history, country, platform, staged rollout and the way the subscription was purchased. A feature shown in the public plan description may not yet appear in every account, while an existing subscriber may retain an older entitlement. Always use the account’s Usage and Billing pages to resolve a discrepancy.
How to check your actual Grok access
Use this sequence whenever you are deciding whether to pay or diagnosing a missing feature.
Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minute- Read the current plan description. Open the official X Subscription pricing documentation and note the tier names, listed price, usage label and any feature-specific entitlement. This is the published plan definition, not a guarantee of a fixed number of prompts.
- Sign in to the account you will use. Do not check while signed out or in a different X/Grok account. Entitlements follow the signed-in account, so an account switch can make a feature appear to disappear.
- Open the Usage view. In the Grok dashboard, open the Usage area. Check the remaining allowance, what has been consumed and any displayed reset information. Record whether the page identifies a free limit or a paid weekly pool.
- Test the specific feature. Open Chat, Imagine, Voice, Build or Grok Bot, depending on what you need. A successful launch is stronger evidence than a generic marketing label; an in-product limit message tells you which allowance has been exhausted.
- Open Billing or subscription management. Confirm the current plan, renewal status and billing channel. Website purchases are managed through Grok billing; purchases made through Apple or Google Play may need to be managed in the corresponding store settings.
- Compare the needed entitlement with the tier. If Grok Bot is essential, verify that the account is on Premium, Super or Ultra under The X Subscription. If you only need occasional Chat or Voice, try Free first and observe the account’s own limits.
- Check again immediately before purchase. Prices, names, limits and rollout status can change. A plan page opened weeks earlier is not a reliable record of today’s checkout or entitlement.
How to interpret the plan names during the transition
New customers may see the newer Free, Plus, Premium, Super and Ultra structure, while existing customers can still see legacy names and billing. The public x.ai pricing page continues to show SuperGrok terminology, and the official documentation says existing SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscriptions continue unless the subscriber changes or cancels them.
That creates two valid-looking sets of labels:
- New X Subscription tiers: Free, Plus, Premium, Super and Ultra, with the published prices and relative usage levels in the table above.
- Legacy subscriptions: an existing SuperGrok, Cursor or X Premium plan may remain active under its original terms until you switch or cancel it.
Switching is optional for an existing subscriber. Do not cancel a legacy plan simply to make its name match a newer table; first read the account’s Billing page and the migration information presented there. A newly subscribing customer may receive a different bundle from an existing customer even when both accounts use Grok.
Choosing between Free and paid access
Free is a sensible starting point for occasional use
Start with Free if your needs are intermittent chat, occasional image creation, short voice sessions or experimentation with Build. You can determine how quickly your own account reaches its limits before committing to a recurring charge. Because free quotas are not published as universal numbers, your Usage page is more useful than a generic estimate.

Plus is the entry paid usage tier
Plus is listed at $8 monthly or $80 annually and carries the base paid usage level. The documentation does not list Grok Bot as a Plus entitlement. Choose it when additional general usage is the priority and you do not specifically require Grok Bot; confirm the exact features shown for your account before checkout.
Premium is the first listed tier with Grok Bot
Premium costs $30 monthly or $300 annually and is labeled at four times Plus usage. Under The X Subscription, it includes Grok Bot. That makes the feature entitlement, rather than the multiplier alone, the deciding factor for someone who needs Grok Bot.
Super and Ultra target substantially heavier usage
Super is $100 monthly or $1,000 annually with a 15-times-Plus usage label; Ultra is $200 monthly or $2,000 annually with a 50-times-Plus label. Both include Grok Bot under The X Subscription. The labels still refer to a shared pool, so heavy activity across Grok, Grok Bot and Cursor can consume the allowance faster than using one product alone.
Annual billing changes cash flow, not the entitlement rules
The annual prices are simply the listed annual options. They do not turn a shared weekly pool into an unlimited allowance, and they do not remove the need to check taxes or account-specific availability. Compare the total checkout price and cancellation terms with your expected period of use.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Billing and platform checks
Where you purchased the subscription determines where you manage it. A web subscription is handled through Grok’s billing controls. A subscription started through Apple’s App Store or Google Play may require cancellation, renewal changes or payment updates in that store’s subscription settings instead of on the Grok website.

- Confirm the signed-in account before opening Billing.
- Check whether the subscription is active, pending cancellation or already expired.
- Match the displayed renewal date and price to the receipt from the platform that charged you.
- Look for taxes added to the listed price at checkout.
- Do not start a second subscription on another platform until you understand whether the first one will continue billing.
If a store receipt shows an active subscription but Grok shows Free, sign out and back in to the account associated with that receipt, then check the platform’s purchase-restoration or account-linking option. If the plan still does not appear, use the billing support path for the platform that processed the payment; the website cannot always alter an App Store or Google Play transaction.
What to do when a feature is missing
The feature is listed but the button is absent
Check the account, region and platform first. Then compare the plan name in Billing with the current entitlement description. A staged rollout or legacy plan can explain why a public feature description and your interface differ. Updating the app, signing out and back in, and reopening the Usage page can refresh stale entitlement data.
You reached a limit sooner than expected
For a paid account, review the shared weekly pool and activity across Grok, Grok Bot and Cursor. A limit reached in one product can affect the others. Wait for the displayed reset, consider Extra Usage Credits on the web if offered, or evaluate an upgrade. For a free account, check the separate Chat or Voice limit and its displayed reset rather than assuming the paid schedule applies.
You expected Grok Bot on Plus
The current X Subscription documentation lists Grok Bot on Premium, Super and Ultra, not Plus. Verify the plan name and billing status; increasing usage within Plus does not establish a Grok Bot entitlement.
Your old SuperGrok plan looks different
Existing SuperGrok subscribers may keep their current plan unless they change or cancel it. Read the legacy plan’s Billing details before switching to a newer tier, because a migration can change the name, price, allowance and bundled features.
Limits of the public plan information
The official pages establish the available tiers, list prices, relative paid usage labels and several feature entitlements. They do not establish a universal quota for every free feature, a fixed number of free generations for every account, or one reset time that applies to all users. They also cannot predict a staged rollout to a particular account.
Use public documentation to identify the plan you are considering, but use the signed-in Usage and Billing screens to answer account-level questions: how much remains, when a limit resets, which plan is active and where it is billed. Recheck those screens and the pricing page on the day you subscribe because the provider describes these details as subject to change.
