On most phones, open Settings > About phone and record Model number. Older Galaxy devices may place the information under Status. A family name such as “Galaxy S24” is not always enough because Samsung can ship different processors in different markets.
Why the model number matters more than the Galaxy family name
A Galaxy product name identifies a broad product family, while the model number identifies a particular version. Samsung says model numbers distinguish specific devices, including differences related to carrier and release year. Those distinctions can also identify which mobile platform is inside the phone.

Regional and carrier variations are the main reason a family name alone can mislead you. Samsung Semiconductor notes that Exynos availability can vary by country and wireless carrier. Therefore, assumptions such as “every international model uses one chip” or “every US model uses another” are too broad without checking the exact device.

The model number is also more useful than the phone’s purchase location by itself. A handset may have been imported, sold through a carrier, or activated in a country different from where it was bought. Treat the number printed by the phone as the starting evidence, then verify it against a record that describes the same market variant.

This distinction matters for several practical decisions. You may be comparing two listings that use the same Galaxy family name, checking whether a benchmark result applies to your phone, or troubleshooting a network or camera feature. In each case, the complete model designation narrows the question to the hardware version you actually hold. A shortened retail name does not establish that two devices share the same SoC.
Find the complete model number in Settings
- Open the phone’s Settings app.
- Scroll to and tap About phone. Some software versions use the label About device.
- Locate Model number and copy every character, including letters, numbers and suffixes.
- Keep the model number available while you consult a specification or support record for that exact variant.
Samsung’s support guidance says that some older devices put the relevant identification details under Status. If you do not see a model-number field on the first About screen, open Status within that section and look there.
Copy the value rather than relying on memory. A single missing character can lead to a page for another carrier or country. Preserve capitalization, punctuation and suffixes exactly as displayed. If you are documenting several phones, put each model number on its own line with the phone’s owner or location so the records cannot be mixed up.
Do not substitute the serial number or IMEI for the model number. Those are separate identifiers for an individual handset or cellular identity. The chipset lookup depends on the model designation, not on a private serial or IMEI value. Avoid posting either identifier publicly when asking for help; the model number is normally sufficient for a specification lookup.
If the phone will not start
The Settings route is the normal method. When the operating system is unavailable, use an official label or documentation supplied for that same handset only as a secondary check, and keep the information private. Do not assume that a box for the same family, or a seller’s abbreviated listing, proves the chipset of the device in your hand. If the label and later software information disagree, resolve the model and market identity before drawing a conclusion.
Match the number to an authoritative specification
Search the complete model number, rather than only the commercial name, in a manufacturer support or specification record. Read the processor or SoC entry and check that the page describes the same sales region or carrier variant. A result for a similarly named phone in another market may describe different hardware.
- Enter the full model number exactly as shown in Settings.
- Prefer a Samsung support, semiconductor or security document, or another authoritative model-specific database that identifies the market variant.
- Check the country, region, carrier and network version named by the record.
- Read the processor, chipset or SoC field. Record the complete name, not merely “Snapdragon” or “Exynos.”
- If two records disagree, investigate the variant identifiers and publication dates before deciding which one applies to your phone.
Samsung’s own material is useful in different ways. Support pages explain where to find the identifier; Samsung Semiconductor explains the processor families; and Samsung Electronics security documentation pairs particular model numbers with processors in evaluated configurations. No single public table should be assumed to be a complete worldwide catalogue of every Galaxy release.
What makes a source a good match?
A useful record answers three questions: does it identify the same model number, does it identify the same country or carrier version, and does it explicitly name the SoC? A page that answers only the first question may still combine multiple regional configurations. A page that says only “Galaxy S24” without a full designation is too broad when variants exist.
Note the source’s publication date and scope. A security evaluation may describe a tested Android configuration rather than every retail configuration. A manufacturer specification may be newer or more directly tied to a sales region. When pages disagree, do not average the answers or choose the more familiar processor name; identify which page actually matches the phone.

How to compare two Galaxy variants
| Comparison row | Evidence to record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Complete model number | Every letter, number and suffix shown in About phone | Separates device versions that share a family name. |
| Sales market | Country or region named by the specification | Exynos availability may vary by country. |
| Carrier or network version | Carrier and network designation, when listed | Carrier variants can use different hardware configurations. |
| Named SoC | Full processor name, such as a stated Qualcomm Snapdragon or Samsung Exynos model | Provides the chipset identity instead of a broad family label. |
| Source date and scope | Publication date and whether the record is an evaluation or product specification | Prevents an older, limited record from being treated as a current global catalogue. |
This comparison is safer than a blanket “US versus international” rule. The evidence that settles each row is the phone’s own model number plus a model-specific record for the matching market and carrier.
What “chipset,” “processor” and “SoC” mean
In everyday phone discussions, chipset, processor and chip usually refer to the main mobile processing platform. Samsung Semiconductor describes this platform as an SoC (system on chip). Depending on the design, an SoC can integrate the CPU, GPU, image signal processor, neural processing unit and modem.
Recommended Free Tools
That integration is why a specification may list a formal SoC name rather than a separate CPU and modem. If a model-specific record names an Exynos or Qualcomm platform, that is normally the chipset information a reader is seeking. For precise identification, retain the full model designation and the exact SoC name together.
Why the chipset can affect comparisons
Different SoCs can have different CPU and GPU designs, modem capabilities, camera-processing features, power characteristics and software-support requirements. Those differences matter when you compare performance, network bands or region-specific firmware. They do not, however, make a broad family label a substitute for checking the model number.
Do not confuse a CPU core description or an Android build identifier with the SoC name. A hardware-information screen may report only part of the platform. Use it as a cross-check after the model-specific lookup, not as permission to ignore the model and market identifiers.
Examples of model-specific pairings
Samsung Electronics’ “Samsung Galaxy Devices on Android 14 – Fall Security Target,” version 0.3, dated 2024-12-16, gives concrete pairings in its evaluated-device table. The entries below illustrate how a model number can be tied to a named processor; they are not an exhaustive or current list of every Galaxy configuration.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Galaxy device listed in the evaluation | Processor named in that evaluated configuration | How to interpret the example |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Flip6 5G | Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 | A model-specific pairing in the Android 14 security evaluation. |
| Galaxy A53 5G | Samsung Exynos 1280 | A model-specific pairing in the Android 14 security evaluation. |
| Galaxy S24 FE | Samsung Exynos 2400 | A model-specific pairing in the Android 14 security evaluation. |
The same evaluation explains that equivalence is based on an identical processor, kernel and build number, and that equivalence is not claimed across different processor types. In practical terms, do not use one row as proof that every phone with the same family name has the same SoC, and do not treat a security-evaluation list as a replacement for a region-specific product specification.
These examples also show why naming the exact platform matters. “Snapdragon” alone omits the generation and model; “Exynos” alone omits the numbered design. When you record a result, copy the complete processor name as it appears in the authoritative record and keep the associated model and market details beside it.
How to tell Snapdragon and Exynos apart without guessing
“Snapdragon or Exynos?” is a common way to phrase the question, but it is not a complete rule for every Galaxy phone or every generation. Some models can use other processor names, and the same family can have different processors by market.

- Read the complete model number in Settings.
- Find a specification that names the SoC for that exact model and market.
- Confirm whether the named platform is a Qualcomm Snapdragon, Samsung Exynos or another stated design.
- Save the source’s region and date with your notes if you are comparing listings or buying a replacement.
Do not infer the answer from the country where you bought the phone, the language selected in Android, the retail box design or a seller’s abbreviated title. Those clues can describe the sales channel rather than the hardware variant.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Likewise, do not infer a processor from benchmark screenshots belonging to a different suffix. A benchmark can be useful only after you have established that the tested phone has the same model and market configuration. If a seller cannot provide the complete model number, treat the chipset claim as unverified rather than filling the gap with a regional stereotype.
When the lookup gives conflicting or incomplete results
The family name matches but the model number does not
Stop and return to Settings. A result for “Galaxy S24” or “Galaxy A53” without the full suffix may cover several variants. Search again using every character of the model number and include the carrier or country when the specification site supports those filters.
Two processor names appear online
Check whether the records refer to different regions, carriers, storage versions or software-era documents. Samsung Semiconductor explicitly warns that Exynos availability can vary by country and carrier, so two seemingly contradictory entries can both be accurate for different variants. Select the record whose model and market identifiers match your handset.
The model number is missing from About phone
Look for About device instead of About phone, then open Status if the device is an older model. Samsung’s support instructions identify those alternate locations. If the software screen remains incomplete, use an official label or documentation supplied for that same handset only as a secondary check, and avoid exposing your IMEI or serial number publicly.
A hardware-information screen disagrees with the web result
Use the phone’s actual reported hardware as a cross-check, but first verify that the result identifies the SoC rather than only the CPU core name or Android build. Recheck the model suffix and region before concluding that the phone is unusual. A generic hardware readout can be incomplete, while a model-specific record can describe a different market variant.
The only available source is old
Check its publication date and scope. The Android 14 security target cited above is dated 2024-12-16 and covers evaluated configurations; it should not be presented as a current worldwide catalogue. For a newer phone or a later software edition, prefer a current manufacturer specification for the exact model and market.
Different sites use slightly different names
Compare the underlying model number, region and processor field rather than punctuation or branding style. One source may write the manufacturer name before the platform, while another uses a shortened commercial form. The decisive evidence is an explicit SoC assignment for the matching variant. If neither page identifies the market or carrier, neither one fully resolves the conflict.
A marketplace listing claims a chipset but omits the suffix
Ask for the complete model number shown in the phone’s About screen or in an official device record. A listing that names only the Galaxy family and a processor family does not establish which regional configuration is being sold. This is especially important for imported or carrier-branded phones, where the seller’s location may not match the device’s original market.

A practical checklist for documenting your phone
- Write down the full model number from Settings > About phone (or About device).
- Record the country or carrier associated with the device, if known.
- Copy the complete processor or SoC name from the authoritative model-specific record.
- Keep the source date, because specifications and evaluated configurations are time-bound.
- Do not publish your serial number or IMEI when asking others to help identify the chipset.
- If the evidence conflicts, resolve the market and model suffix before comparing performance or network support.
- Save the model number and SoC together in your notes so a future comparison does not rely on memory.
- When documenting multiple phones, keep each device’s region and carrier beside its own model number.
This record is useful when checking a used-phone listing, interpreting a benchmark, discussing a firmware issue or comparing two variants. It also makes it easier to revisit the lookup when a specification page changes, because you have preserved the exact identifier and the date and scope of the source you used.
What this method can and cannot establish
This process can identify the chipset assigned to a specific Galaxy model and market variant when an authoritative specification names it. It also explains why two phones with the same family branding may differ.
It cannot determine an individual phone’s chipset from the family name alone, and it cannot supply a universal mapping for every Galaxy release without a complete, current database. The Samsung security document provides selected evaluated examples, while Samsung Semiconductor establishes the possibility of country and carrier variation. Your exact model number remains the deciding piece of information.
No exact phone model or country was supplied here, so a family name cannot be converted into one definitive processor answer. The correct endpoint is not a guess but a reproducible chain: the handset reports a complete model number, and a model-specific record for the matching market names the SoC.
Frequently asked questions
Can I find the chipset directly in Settings?
Settings reliably gives you the model number through About phone or, on some older devices, Status. Use that number to identify the chipset in an authoritative model-specific specification. A hardware-information screen can serve as a cross-check, but the model-and-market lookup is the dependable starting method.
Is the Galaxy family name enough?
No. A family such as Galaxy S, Galaxy A or Galaxy Z can contain regional or carrier variants. Samsung Semiconductor says Exynos availability may vary by country and carrier, so use the complete model number and matching market record.
Does the purchase country prove whether my phone has Snapdragon or Exynos?
No. An imported phone or a handset activated in another country may not match the market where it is currently used. Verify the model number and the region or carrier named by the specification instead.
Are Snapdragon and Exynos the only possible Galaxy chipsets?
No. They are common names in the question, but the wording is not a rule for every model or generation. Read the exact SoC name in the specification; do not assume the answer must be one of those two families.
Why do two websites list different processors for the same phone name?
They may be describing different model suffixes, countries, carriers, network versions or publication scopes. Compare the complete model number and market details. Two entries can both be accurate for different variants.
Best Value
Can I share my IMEI to get help identifying the chipset?
You generally do not need to. The model number is the relevant identifier for a chipset lookup. Keep the IMEI and serial number private and share only the model designation needed to match a specification.
What if a security document lists a processor that differs from a current product page?
Check the document’s date and scope. The Android 14 security target dated 2024-12-16 describes evaluated configurations and is not a complete current catalogue. Prefer a current manufacturer specification for your exact model and market, while treating the older evaluation as a configuration-specific example.
What information should I save after I identify the chipset?
Save the complete model number, the country or carrier, the full SoC name, and the source date and scope. That record lets you distinguish your phone from other versions with the same family branding.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Bottom line
Open Settings > About phone, copy the complete Model number, and match it to a model-specific specification for the same region or carrier. Read the named SoC there. This two-part check is more reliable than guessing from the Galaxy family, purchase country or the words “Snapdragon” and “Exynos” in a shortened listing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I find my Galaxy model number?
Open Settings, tap About phone (or About device), and read Model number. On some older devices, Samsung places the details under Status.
How do I know if my Galaxy uses Snapdragon or Exynos?
Copy the complete model number, then check an authoritative specification for that exact model and its country or carrier variant. Read the full SoC name listed there.
Can the same Galaxy model have different chipsets?
A broad family name can cover regional or carrier variants. Samsung Semiconductor notes that Exynos availability may vary by country and carrier, so the complete model number is essential.
Should I use the IMEI for a chipset lookup?
No. Use the model number. The IMEI and serial number identify the individual handset or cellular identity and should not be posted publicly.
What if online specifications disagree?
Compare model suffix, country, carrier, network version, publication date and document scope. Select the record that matches your handset rather than choosing a processor based on the family name.
Are the listed security-evaluation examples a complete Galaxy chipset list?
No. They are evaluated configurations. For example, the dated Android 14 evaluation pairs specific devices with named processors but is not a worldwide catalogue.
The Bottom Line
Find the full model number in Settings, then verify the named SoC in a specification for the matching market or carrier. That is the reliable way to distinguish Galaxy chipset variants.
