Check your phone’s exact model and regional variant, compare its published 5G bands with the carrier’s device information, and then run that carrier’s IMEI compatibility checker. A band match is useful, but it does not by itself confirm carrier approval, unlock status, local coverage, or access to every 5G feature.
1. Find your phone’s exact model number
Start with the model number, not just the brand or family name. Phones sold under the same product name can have different radio specifications or carrier support by region and variant.

Look in the phone’s settings, on its device label, or on the original packaging. Record both the model name and model number, along with the region or carrier variant if it is identified. Use those details whenever you check specifications or enter information in a carrier tool.
2. Compare the exact variant’s 5G bands
Find the technical specifications for that precise model from the phone maker, then check the target carrier’s official device information. Do not rely on a search-result snippet or a specification page for a different variant. Keep the phone’s band list separate from the carrier’s compatibility result: a published band match does not equal carrier acceptance.

For AT&T, the carrier specifically says its ultra-fast mid-band 5G+ service requires band n77, and advises customers to find their device on AT&T’s site to check 5G and 5G+ support. Its device comparison pages list regular 5G bands and separately identify the subset supported for AT&T 5G+. Check AT&T device information.
For T-Mobile and Verizon, use each carrier’s current device information and live compatibility checker for the service you want. The available carrier guidance here does not establish a complete current band inventory for every T-Mobile 5G service tier. Verizon describes 5G Ultra Wideband as using mid-band C-band and high-band mmWave; that description does not approve any particular handset. 3. Run the carrier’s IMEI check
Use the checker for the carrier you intend to join and the specific phone you plan to activate. The IMEI is the handset’s identifier; follow the carrier’s on-page instructions to find or submit it. If you are checking a phone for someone else, use the IMEI of the actual device rather than a number from a similar model.
- AT&T: Search for the device on AT&T’s site to review its 5G and 5G+ support.
- T-Mobile: Enter the IMEI in its BYOD checker. T-Mobile says its IMEI check is its fastest and most accurate way to determine network compatibility and whether the device is locked or unlocked.
- Verizon: Enter the IMEI in its BYOD checker to confirm network compatibility.
Use the result as the carrier’s compatibility decision for that device. Do not treat a band list or a 5G service description as a substitute for it.

4. Confirm the conditions that a band list cannot answer
Before switching or buying, resolve these separately from radio-band support:
- Carrier approval: Check that the carrier accepts the exact model and IMEI.
- Lock status: Confirm that the handset is unlocked if you need to use it on a different carrier. T-Mobile’s checker includes lock-status information; check with the relevant carrier for other cases.
- Software or update requirements: Verify whether the carrier or manufacturer states any requirements for the device.
- Plan and service eligibility: Confirm that your plan and account can access the service you want.
- Local coverage: Check service at the specific places where you expect to use the phone. Compatibility does not promise coverage at a particular address.
5. Compare phones before replacing yours
If the current phone lacks the needed radio support or fails the carrier’s compatibility check, compare replacement candidates by exact variant—not merely by model family. Use the same carrier and service target for every candidate.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWhy “5G compatible” may not answer the question
Carriers use service labels such as 5G, 5G+, and Ultra Wideband for different network offerings. A phone may support some 5G bands without supporting the band or service layer you care about, and carrier acceptance is a separate check. For AT&T mid-band 5G+, n77 is the stated requirement; for a particular phone and account, verify support and acceptance with AT&T directly.
