To check whether your PC can run Gears of War: E-Day, compare six things—Windows version, processor, RAM, graphics card and ray-tracing support, DirectX, and SSD space—with the game’s current minimum and recommended specifications. Steam Support currently lists 115 GB of available SSD space, 12 GB RAM minimum, and a hardware ray-tracing-capable GPU as part of the baseline.

Use the Windows checks below, then compare every row in the table. Meeting the minimum list establishes only that your hardware matches the published baseline; it does not guarantee a particular frame rate, resolution, or graphics preset.

Which requirements must your PC meet?

There are two useful comparisons. The minimum tier answers whether your system reaches the published entry point. The recommended tier is a stronger starting point, with a newer operating system, faster processor and graphics options, and more memory. Treat each component as a separate check: a capable graphics card does not compensate for an unsupported Windows version, and sufficient RAM does not prove that the processor qualifies.

The detailed values below come from the current Steam Support technical listing, accessed October 13, 2026. The listed CPU and GPU models are storefront examples, not a universal performance ranking or a promise that every part will deliver the same frame rate.

The minimum graphics row has an important condition: the GPU must support hardware ray tracing. A card should not be considered compliant merely because it is newer, has a high model number, or has enough video memory. Check the exact model and its ray-tracing capability.

Storage figures can differ on older or unofficial pages. For an installation decision, use the live Steam listing and its current 115 GB figure rather than an older number. Steam lists 115 GB of available space in both tiers, and specifies an SSD; it does not give a different storage amount for the recommended tier.

Check your PC in Windows

1. Verify Windows edition, version, build, and architecture

  1. Open Settings from the Start menu.
  2. Choose System, then About.
  3. Under Windows specifications, record the edition, version, and OS build.
  4. Under Device specifications, check whether the system type is 64-bit.

Compare all of those details with the operating-system row. A 64-bit computer can still miss the listed Windows version or build. If your system is below the minimum Windows release, resolve that software mismatch before judging the hardware.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keep the full details together in a note rather than relying on memory—for example, write down the edition, version, build, and system type. This makes it easier to compare your PC with the storefront later, especially if you are checking a laptop or a computer you do not use every day. Do not treat the Windows edition alone as a pass: the listing names both a version and, for the minimum Windows 10 row, a specific build.

2. Record the processor and installed memory

  1. Stay in Settings > System > About.
  2. Record the processor name exactly as shown beside Processor.
  3. Record the installed memory beside Installed RAM.

For another view, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, select Performance, and inspect CPU and Memory. Compare the CPU model and RAM amount independently. The minimum is 12 GB; the recommended tier is 16 GB. Installed memory is not the same as free memory, and extra RAM does not make an under-tier processor meet the CPU requirement.

Use the complete processor model, not just a broad label such as “Core i5” or “Ryzen 5.” The table gives examples across AMD and Intel, and similar family names can refer to different generations and models. If your processor is not named in the table, do not assume an exact equivalence from the family name or clock speed; the listing does not promise a ranking or performance result for every unlisted chip.

3. Identify the graphics card and ray-tracing support

  1. Open Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
  2. Select Performance, then choose each GPU entry.
  3. Write down the full model name and note whether the PC has integrated and discrete graphics.
  4. Compare the model with the graphics row and confirm hardware ray-tracing support for the minimum tier.

Systems with more than one GPU need extra care. The model listed in Task Manager may be an integrated adapter while games use a separate card, or the reverse may occur if a laptop is configured for power saving. Check which adapter is selected for games in your graphics settings, then evaluate that adapter against the table. Do not infer compliance from a laptop’s marketing name or from the amount of video memory alone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If you are unsure which adapter is active, note every GPU shown rather than selecting the first one and stopping. Compare the exact discrete card, if present, against the examples and verify its hardware ray-tracing capability in the manufacturer’s specification for that model. The requirement is not simply “a dedicated GPU”; ray tracing is explicitly called out as required at minimum.

4. Confirm DirectX 12

  1. Open the Start menu and type dxdiag.
  2. Run DirectX Diagnostic Tool.
  3. On the System tab, read the DirectX Version entry.
  4. Use the Display tabs to review the detected graphics adapters if you need to cross-check Task Manager.

The game lists DirectX 12 for both tiers. Dxdiag reports the installed DirectX version; it does not certify that the GPU meets the game’s separate hardware ray-tracing requirement, so both checks are necessary.

5. Check the destination drive, free space, and SSD type

  1. Open Settings > System > Storage to see available space on each drive.
  2. Identify the drive where Steam will install the game.
  3. Confirm that the destination is an SSD, not a hard-disk drive.
  4. Check that at least 115 GB is available on that drive.

The requirement is available space at installation time, not merely the drive’s total capacity. Leave additional room for Windows, updates, save data, and other applications instead of filling an SSD to its limit. If the selected drive is short on space, remove or move data first. Consider an internal SSD upgrade only after checking the computer’s physical format, interface, available slot, and firmware support; the specification alone cannot identify a compatible replacement.

Check the actual Steam library location, not just the capacity of the main Windows drive. Steam can install to a different drive, so the space available on one disk does not establish that the intended destination has enough room. If you use another SSD, confirm that Steam is set to install the game there. The official listing gives 115 GB as the required available space; it does not provide a recommended SSD capacity or identify a particular interface or model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

6. Check the remaining baseline items

  • Internet: The listing calls for a broadband internet connection. Confirm that the intended PC and network can maintain a stable connection for downloads and online features.
  • Audio: The PC needs a Windows-compatible audio device. Built-in motherboard or laptop audio normally appears in Windows sound settings; verify that a device is enabled and its driver is installed.
  • Consistency: Compare every row, not just the GPU. A single missing requirement can prevent a successful installation or produce an unsupported configuration.

The network and sound entries are part of the published requirement table even though they are easy to overlook when comparing parts. They do not replace the processor, graphics, memory, operating-system, DirectX, and storage checks. If a sound device or connection is missing, note that as a separate item to resolve rather than treating a strong CPU or GPU as evidence that every listed condition is satisfied.

How to interpret the comparison

Your result What it means Next action
Every row reaches minimum Your PC matches the publisher’s listed baseline. Check the live listing again before installation and keep expectations flexible; the requirements do not specify guaranteed FPS, resolution, or preset.
Every row reaches recommended Your configuration matches the stronger published tier. Install after confirming current drivers, free SSD space, and the current storefront listing.
One row is below minimum The system has a specific documented shortfall. Investigate that component or software condition instead of buying unrelated hardware.
Several rows are below minimum The PC is not a close match to the listed baseline. Assess whether an upgrade path is practical; replacing one part may not address the other gaps.
Only free space is below 115 GB The hardware comparison may be satisfactory, but the installation drive cannot currently hold the listing’s requirement. Free or move data, select another SSD, or verify a compatible SSD upgrade.

Minimum and recommended are eligibility tiers, not performance guarantees. The published table does not establish a particular frame rate on a named CPU/GPU combination, nor does it define a guaranteed resolution or graphics preset.

Use “meets minimum” narrowly: it means your recorded specifications match the published minimum rows, not that the game has been benchmarked on your exact PC or that every setting will behave alike. The same applies to recommended. The table is useful for finding a gap and choosing the right next check, but it does not report frame rates, graphics settings, or an exact performance difference between minimum and recommended systems.

What to do when a check fails

Windows version or build is too old

Record the exact edition, version, and build before changing anything. Apply available Windows updates and recheck the About page afterward. If the installed edition cannot reach the required release, the operating-system condition remains unmet even when the CPU and GPU qualify. The recommended row calls for 64-bit Windows 11 version 25H2 or newer, while the minimum row specifies 64-bit Windows 10 version 22H and build 19045.7291.

Do not substitute a newer hardware component for a software requirement. If your PC otherwise appears to match but Windows does not, first determine whether it can be brought to the listed version; then make a fresh comparison. This keeps an OS mismatch from being mistaken for a graphics or processor problem.

Processor is below the listed tier

Compare the complete processor model, including its generation or suffix, rather than judging by clock speed alone. A processor with adequate RAM can still fall short of the CPU row. Check the motherboard socket, BIOS support, cooling, and power limits before considering a CPU change; those compatibility details are specific to the computer and are not supplied by the game’s requirement table.

Graphics card lacks hardware ray tracing

This is a direct minimum-tier condition. If the card cannot perform hardware ray tracing, it does not satisfy the published baseline, regardless of whether it is recent or has a large amount of video memory. Check the manufacturer’s technical specification for the exact model and confirm that the installed driver recognizes the card correctly. Do not treat integrated graphics as equivalent to one of the listed discrete examples without evidence for that specific adapter.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Likewise, do not use a GPU’s model number by itself to decide whether it qualifies. The Steam row contains named examples, but the requirement’s explicit ray-tracing condition still matters. When the model is not listed, look up the exact adapter rather than assuming that a product family or a high number guarantees the required feature.

RAM is under 12 GB

Recheck the Installed RAM field and make sure you are not confusing free memory with installed capacity. If the total is below 12 GB, the minimum row is not met. A memory upgrade also requires the correct module type, slot availability, and a motherboard limit that supports the desired capacity.

The published recommended figure is 16 GB, four gigabytes above the minimum. That distinction can help you identify which tier your system matches, but it is not a promise that adding RAM alone will improve performance or overcome another shortfall. If the CPU, GPU, or Windows version is also below minimum, record those gaps separately.

DirectX does not report version 12

Run dxdiag again and check the System tab, then review the Display tabs for driver errors. Updating Windows and the graphics driver may resolve a software detection problem, but an update cannot add hardware ray-tracing capability to a GPU that lacks it.

The SSD has insufficient space

Check the specific Steam library drive rather than the total space across all disks. Emptying the recycle bin, uninstalling unused applications, or moving large media files can recover space without changing hardware. If another SSD is available, select it as the installation destination. For a new internal drive, verify connector type, physical size, motherboard support, and operating-system setup before purchase.

First check whether deleting or moving files is enough to make 115 GB available on an existing SSD. If it is not, check whether another compatible SSD is already installed. Only then consider a compatible SSD upgrade, and verify the PC’s supported format and connection before purchasing; Steam’s storage line does not specify a universal drive to buy.

Internet or audio is not available

Resolve the basic Windows device or network issue first. Confirm that the network adapter is enabled and that Windows lists a working audio output. These checks are separate from CPU, GPU, and storage eligibility, so a hardware match does not remove the broadband and Windows-compatible audio conditions.

Advanced Shader Delivery is separate from the system requirements

Microsoft’s DirectX Developer Blog described Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) for Gears of War: E-Day on October 1, 2026. Microsoft says ASD supplies precompiled shaders with the download, reducing CPU shader work at launch and reducing runtime-compilation stutter. The article states: “ASD reduces shader compilation time by approximately 95%, helping players get into the game faster.” That is Microsoft’s reported figure, not a frame-rate promise.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

ASD has its own compatibility conditions and should not be used as a substitute for the Steam table. Microsoft lists Windows 11 24H2 or higher, supported AMD RDNA architectures with driver 26.6.1 or higher, and Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Series hardware with driver 2026.08.3 or higher. The same article said Intel Arc B-Series/Core Ultra Series 2 and 3 and all Nvidia RTX GPUs would be supported later that month; because that was forward-looking when published, verify the current status before relying on it. Microsoft also says to install the Xbox PC app before downloading to experience ASD for E-Day. See the DirectX Developer Blog announcement for the ASD conditions.

Note the difference between ASD’s Windows condition and the game’s own OS rows: the Steam listing’s minimum is 64-bit Windows 10 version 22H, build 19045.7291, while its recommended row is Windows 11 version 25H2 or newer. ASD’s Windows 11 24H2-or-higher condition is specific to the shader-delivery feature, not a replacement or revision of those game requirements. A PC may therefore need a separate ASD compatibility check even after you have compared the main Steam requirements.

Which official listing should you trust?

The Coalition studio head Mike Crump announced the final PC specifications on Xbox Wire on September 17, 2026, and the page notes that its PC-specifications image was updated September 28. The detailed, readable component values are provided by the current Steam Support page linked above. You can review the announcement at Xbox Wire.

System requirements and storage allocations can change through patches, packaging, or storefront updates. Before spending money on hardware or beginning a large download, open the live Steam technical listing and compare its current rows with the notes you recorded from Windows. At the time of this check, Steam lists 115 GB and requires an SSD; use that figure rather than conflicting older web pages.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Coalition/Xbox Wire announcement describes the specifications as final PC specifications for launch, with an editor’s note that the image was updated September 28, 2026. Steam Support is the readable source for the detailed rows in this guide. Since the two sources present the details differently, use the current Steam technical listing when checking a particular field such as available storage. The game’s listed release date is October 6, 2026, according to Steam Support; check the live listing for any later requirement changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my PC run Gears of War: E-Day?

Compare your Windows version and build, processor, installed RAM, game-use graphics card and hardware ray-tracing support, DirectX version, network, audio, and SSD space with the Steam Support table. Meeting every minimum row means your PC matches the published baseline; it does not guarantee a specific frame rate, resolution, or graphics preset.

What are the minimum PC specs for Gears of War: E-Day?

Steam Support lists 64-bit Windows 10 version 22H, build 19045.7291; an AMD Ryzen 5 2600X, Intel i7-6850K, or Intel i5-10400; 12 GB RAM; a hardware ray-tracing-capable GPU, with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050, RTX 2060, AMD Radeon RX 6600, or RX 9060 as examples; DirectX 12; broadband internet; 115 GB available on an SSD; and a Windows-compatible audio device. Check the live listing in case it changes.

How much SSD space does Gears of War: E-Day need?

The current Steam Support listing accessed October 13, 2026, says 115 GB of available space and requires an SSD. Check free space on the actual drive selected for the Steam library; total capacity across multiple drives is not the same as available space on the destination.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is 12 GB of RAM enough, or do I need 16 GB?

Steam lists 12 GB as the minimum and 16 GB as recommended. A PC with 12 GB matches the memory figure in the minimum tier, while 16 GB matches the recommended memory row. You still need to compare every other requirement independently.

Does the minimum GPU need ray tracing?

Yes. Steam Support explicitly says a hardware ray-tracing-capable GPU is required at minimum. Check the exact GPU model and its hardware capability; age, model number, or video-memory amount alone does not establish compliance.

Does Advanced Shader Delivery change the minimum specs?

No. Microsoft’s DirectX Developer Blog described ASD as a separate feature that delivers precompiled shaders. Its listed Windows and hardware conditions are not a replacement for the game requirements on Steam. Microsoft also says to install the Xbox PC app before downloading to experience ASD for E-Day.

Should I buy a new SSD or graphics card if my PC falls short?

First identify the specific row that is below minimum. If only storage is short, try freeing or moving files, or use another SSD. Before buying an internal SSD, verify the PC’s supported physical format, interface, slot, and firmware support. Do not buy a GPU or other hardware based only on the game’s example list; check the exact shortfall and your computer’s compatibility first.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Check every row against the current Steam Support listing, paying particular attention to Windows version/build, hardware ray tracing, and the 115 GB SSD requirement. If one item falls short, investigate that specific gap before spending money; neither the minimum nor recommended tier promises a particular frame rate.
