To check whether your PC can run Planet Zoo 2, record six details—Windows edition, CPU, installed RAM, graphics-card model, dedicated VRAM, DirectX version, and free storage—then compare them with Frontier’s published minimum specifications. The minimum tier is a compatibility baseline, not a promise of a specific frame rate or smooth performance in every zoo.

Frontier’s published PC listing names October 13, 2026 as the scheduled release date. Because launch timing and pre-release requirements can change, confirm the current Steam, Epic Games Store, or Frontier listing before installing or buying upgrades.

Planet Zoo 2 PC requirements at a glance

Frontier Support’s “Launch, crashing or performance issues with Planet Zoo 2 on PC” guidance, published September 25, 2026, lists the following requirements. Steam and the Epic Games Store also display the same basic specification tiers.

What the minimum and recommended tiers actually mean

Minimum is a pass/fail starting point

A PC that meets every minimum entry has the hardware and software categories Frontier has identified as necessary for the game. It does not establish a target frame rate, resolution, graphics preset, loading time, or performance in a large, highly populated zoo. No official frame-rate figures are supplied with the requirements.

If one component is below minimum, the system does not meet the published baseline even when other parts are faster. A powerful graphics card cannot compensate for an unsupported operating system, and extra RAM does not make an underpowered processor meet the listed CPU class.

Recommended is a stronger hardware reference, not a guarantee

The recommended tier raises the CPU and GPU examples while leaving memory and storage at 16 GB and 40 GB. It is a useful target for someone buying or building a PC, but Frontier does not state that it guarantees a particular frame rate or that every zoo will run identically on the same parts.

Between the two tiers is an officially undefined middle

For example, a computer with a graphics card between an RTX 2060 and RTX 3070, or a processor between the listed CPU examples, is neither “minimum” nor “recommended” according to an official performance scale. Describe that machine as an intermediate configuration. Do not convert the gap into an invented FPS estimate.

Step 1: Find your Windows edition and system type

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Select System, then About.
  3. Read Windows specifications to identify whether you are running Windows 10 or Windows 11.
  4. Read System type. The requirement is a 64-bit installation, so a 32-bit entry does not meet the listed operating-system requirement.
  5. Record the processor name shown on the same page. Copy the complete model, including its generation or suffix, rather than recording only “Intel Core” or “Ryzen.”

Windows 10 appears in the minimum list, but Frontier warns that ongoing compatibility cannot be guaranteed because Microsoft has ended Windows 10 support. Windows 11 is the recommended operating system. If your PC is still on Windows 10, check the current game listing and your computer’s Windows 11 upgrade eligibility before relying on the minimum entry.

Step 2: Check the exact CPU model

Open Settings → System → About and compare the full processor name with the CPU examples in the table. A model number matters: “Core i7” covers many generations with different capabilities, and “Ryzen 5” alone is not enough to establish equivalence.

The minimum examples are an Intel Core i7-8700K and an AMD Ryzen 5 3600. The recommended examples are an Intel Core i7-10700K and an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X. Frontier does not publish a complete list of every processor that is equivalent, nor does it provide a CPU benchmark score. If your model is not one of the examples, avoid calling it definitively supported or unsupported solely from the brand family; use the listed models as a reference and check the current official listing for any expanded guidance.

Step 3: Check installed RAM

  1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. Select Performance, then Memory.
  3. Record the installed memory, shown in gigabytes.

Both tiers list 16 GB of RAM. That means 8 GB does not meet the published minimum, while 16 GB satisfies the stated memory amount for either tier. The requirement concerns installed system memory, not the dedicated memory on your graphics card. If Task Manager reports less than 16 GB, check whether the PC has an upgradeable memory slot, whether modules are sold in compatible pairs, and whether the motherboard and processor support the intended capacity before purchasing parts.

Step 4: Identify the graphics card and VRAM

The GPU is one of the most important checks because Frontier names specific graphics models and dedicated VRAM amounts for both tiers.

  1. Open Task Manager → Performance and select each listed GPU. Record the exact model name.
  2. Look for Dedicated GPU memory or dedicated VRAM. If Task Manager is unclear, open Windows display or graphics settings, or the graphics-card manufacturer’s control panel.
  3. Check whether the card is integrated or discrete. A laptop may show both an integrated GPU and a separate gaming GPU; compare the separate model that the game will actually use.
  4. Compare the complete model and VRAM with Frontier’s entries. Do not rely on a series name, a laptop’s marketing label, or the amount of shared system memory.
Tier NVIDIA reference AMD reference Intel reference
Minimum GeForce RTX 2060, 6 GB VRAM Radeon RX 5600XT, 6 GB VRAM Arc A750, 8 GB VRAM
Recommended GeForce RTX 3070, 8 GB VRAM Radeon RX 6700XT, 12 GB VRAM Arc A770, 16 GB VRAM

VRAM is not interchangeable with ordinary RAM. A graphics card can have enough system memory available and still fall below the listed graphics requirement because its dedicated VRAM is too small. Conversely, a card with more VRAM is not automatically faster in every workload; the exact GPU model remains essential.

Step 5: Confirm DirectX 12 support

  1. Press Windows + R, type dxdiag, and press Enter.
  2. On the System tab, read DirectX Version.
  3. Use the Display or Render tabs to inspect the active graphics device and driver information.

The published minimum and recommended entries both require DirectX 12. The DirectX version shown by Windows is only one part of compatibility; the GPU and its driver must also support the required feature set. If dxdiag reports a different version, install current Windows updates and consult the graphics-card documentation before assuming the game will run.

Step 6: Check free storage and the drive type

  1. Open File Explorer and select This PC.
  2. Find the drive where you plan to install the game.
  3. Confirm that at least 40 GB is available.
  4. Identify whether that drive is an SSD or a hard-disk drive. Frontier recommends an SSD for both tiers.

The 40 GB figure is the published available-space requirement for both minimum and recommended configurations. Keep additional room for Windows, launcher data, patches, save files, and temporary installation files; Frontier’s listing does not specify how much extra space future updates will need. If the game is installed on a nearly full drive, free space before installation rather than counting on the installer to remove files automatically.

Use a complete comparison, not a single-component shortcut

Make a written checklist with one line for each requirement:

  • 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11, with Windows 11 the preferred choice.
  • CPU model recorded in full.
  • At least 16 GB installed RAM.
  • GPU model recorded in full.
  • Dedicated VRAM compared with the listed amount.
  • DirectX 12 reported by dxdiag.
  • At least 40 GB free on the installation drive.
  • SSD available or planned, because Frontier recommends one.

Only after every line is checked should you classify the PC as meeting the published minimum. If a line is unknown, the result is “not yet verified,” not “supported.”

How to interpret laptops and prebuilt PCs

Laptop GPU names need extra care

Laptop versions of a GPU can have different power limits and performance from desktop cards carrying a similar name. Record the exact laptop model shown in Task Manager and compare it with the official requirement; do not infer capability from a retailer’s broad “gaming laptop” description. Also verify that the game is configured to use the discrete GPU rather than an integrated graphics processor.

Prebuilt specifications can hide upgrade limits

A prebuilt computer may meet the GPU requirement but have a small power supply, limited airflow, proprietary connectors, or no room for a longer graphics card. Those details are specific to the individual PC and are not covered by the game’s requirement table. Before upgrading, check the power-supply capacity and connectors, case clearance, motherboard slots, RAM type, cooling, and the manufacturer’s upgrade limits.

Integrated graphics should not be assumed to qualify

The published minimum examples are discrete GPUs with dedicated VRAM. An integrated GPU that borrows system memory should not be treated as equivalent simply because Windows reports a large total graphics-memory number. Compare the exact graphics device and dedicated-memory information.

What to do when your PC falls short

Below 16 GB RAM

Check the motherboard’s supported memory type, maximum capacity, and available slots. A memory upgrade may address this one mismatch, but it does not make a below-minimum CPU or GPU compliant. After installation, confirm the new total in Task Manager.

Below the GPU or VRAM threshold

A graphics-card upgrade is the most directly supported physical upgrade path because Frontier lists GPU models and VRAM amounts. The RTX 2060 6 GB, RX 5600XT 6 GB, and Arc A750 8 GB are official minimum references, not universal upgrade recommendations and not promises of a particular experience. Check power, connectors, case clearance, motherboard compatibility, cooling, and the processor before buying.

Less than 40 GB free

Remove or move unneeded files, or select a larger compatible drive. An SSD is recommended, but changing the drive does not solve a CPU, RAM, GPU, or operating-system mismatch.

Windows 10 only

Review Windows 11 compatibility and the current official game listing. Frontier’s caveat means a Windows 10 installation may not remain supported even though Windows 10 appears in the minimum table.

Launch and performance troubleshooting

If the PC meets the listed requirements but the game will not launch, crashes, or performs poorly, Frontier’s support guidance suggests the following sequence. These are troubleshooting suggestions, not guaranteed fixes or benchmark results.

  1. Recheck every requirement, including the exact GPU, dedicated VRAM, 64-bit Windows installation, DirectX 12, and free storage.
  2. In Steam, use the game’s file-verification option to check for damaged or missing files.
  3. Update the graphics driver. If a normal update does not help, perform a clean driver installation using the graphics vendor’s available installer options.
  4. Install pending Windows updates and restart the PC.
  5. Disable overlays, recording tools, and unnecessary background programs, then test again.
  6. Try full-screen mode instead of a borderless or windowed mode if display behavior is unstable.
  7. Lower in-game graphics settings and test whether the issue changes. This can reduce load, but it cannot make a system meet a missing hardware requirement.
  8. Check for overheating, especially if problems appear after extended play or the system becomes unusually loud. Also check PCI-E slot use where relevant to the installed graphics card.

Record what changed after each step. That makes it easier to distinguish a driver or software conflict from a hardware limitation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Release-date and requirement caveats

Steam and the Epic Games Store listings reviewed for this guide identified October 13, 2026 as the scheduled PC release date. That date was still three days away when Frontier’s guidance was published on September 25, 2026, so verify the live listing if you are reading this around launch or later. Frontier also says minimum specifications may change during development. A store page or support article updated after your purchase can therefore supersede the figures shown here.

No official source in the published requirements provides tested frame rates, resolution targets, or a performance table for specific intermediate PCs. Do not treat the minimum or recommended labels as FPS ratings, and do not assume that a PC passing the checklist will perform identically in every scenario.

A practical decision checklist

  • Ready to install: every minimum requirement is verified, the drive has at least 40 GB free, and you understand that minimum hardware does not guarantee a particular frame rate.
  • Likely stronger starting point: the PC matches the recommended CPU and GPU examples, has 16 GB RAM, DirectX 12, Windows 11, and an SSD. This still is not an official performance guarantee.
  • Needs investigation: one or more model numbers, VRAM values, DirectX information, or upgrade constraints are unknown.
  • Below the published baseline: at least one required category is under minimum. Check the entire platform and upgrade limits rather than buying a single part on the assumption that it will solve every mismatch.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
