Use Windows’ DirectX Diagnostic Tool, dxdiag, to record your operating system, processor, RAM, graphics card, video memory and driver details. Compare the exact models with Rockstar Games’ separate requirements for Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced and Grand Theft Auto V Legacy. Meeting every minimum is only a requirements check—not a promise of a particular frame rate or smoothness—and online play still requires an internet connection and a Rockstar Games network login.
First, identify which PC edition you are checking
Rockstar publishes different specifications for the Enhanced and Legacy editions. Do not combine the two lists or assume that a computer passing Legacy requirements also passes Enhanced requirements. Check the edition you intend to install, then compare every category in that edition’s minimum or recommended row.

- Legacy: the older requirements list, which specifies an HDD and substantially lower graphics and memory targets.
The requirements page was last updated December 10, 2025. Rockstar also warns that downloadable content and programming changes can alter requirements over time, so treat this as a current published baseline rather than a permanent compatibility guarantee.
Quick answer: can your PC run GTA Online?
There are two separate questions: whether your machine clears Rockstar’s hardware and Windows threshold for the edition you want, and whether it can satisfy the service requirements for online play. Start with the hardware check. If every item in one edition’s minimum row is met, your computer meets the published minimum specification for that edition. That statement does not predict a frame rate, resolution, loading behavior or overall smoothness.

If a component is unlisted, mobile, integrated or reported ambiguously, classify the result as not established rather than guessing that it is equivalent to a named desktop part. Finally, confirm that you have an internet connection and Rockstar Games network login access. Both are separate from the component comparison.
How to find your PC specifications with dxdiag
dxdiag is Windows’ DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Rockstar’s compatibility instructions use it because it puts the main system and display information in one place.
- Click Start, then choose Run.
- Enter
dxdiagand select OK. - If Windows asks whether it should check WHQL digital signatures, choose Yes, as Rockstar instructs.
- Stay on the System tab and record the operating system, processor and memory values exactly as shown.
- Open the Display tab. Record the graphics-device name, chip information, approximate video memory and driver version and date.
- Keep the exact model names, not just the manufacturer. “NVIDIA” or “AMD” alone is not enough to compare against a requirement.
Onboard graphics can borrow system memory. Consequently, dxdiag may show shared memory rather than a separate pool of dedicated video memory. Note that distinction when comparing the graphics row.

A laptop can list an integrated adapter and a discrete adapter. The name and memory amount of the adapter used by the game are the relevant details, but an unlisted mobile or integrated part still cannot be certified by this checklist alone.
Write the values down before comparing them. A useful worksheet has one line each for Windows edition and build, CPU model, installed RAM, GPU model, dedicated or shared video memory, driver date, available storage and storage type. Keeping the driver date is useful for troubleshooting, although Rockstar’s table does not define a driver-version threshold.
Rockstar’s published PC requirements
The following figures and model names come from Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V PC system-requirements page, updated December 10, 2025. They are requirement thresholds, not independent benchmark measurements.

Rockstar’s table uses “or” between the Intel and AMD processor choices and between the NVIDIA and AMD graphics choices. You need to compare your part with the appropriate manufacturer’s listed model; you do not need both alternatives. The capacities in the graphics column are part of the listed comparison, so a model name without its memory amount is incomplete.
How to compare your dxdiag results
Operating system and Windows build
Read the operating-system line on dxdiag’s System tab and compare it with the row for your chosen edition. Enhanced minimum eligibility includes a Windows 10 build requirement, while its recommended row names Windows 11. Legacy requires 64-bit Windows 10 in both tiers. A computer running an edition or build outside the applicable row has not met Rockstar’s published operating-system requirement, even if its processor and graphics card are fast enough.
Use the build information shown by dxdiag rather than relying on a general description such as “Windows 10.” The Enhanced minimum specifically names build 1909 or above. For Legacy, confirm the 64-bit condition instead of assuming that every Windows 10 installation has the same architecture.
Processor
Compare the complete processor model shown on the System tab with the processor pair in the same requirements row. A model from the same manufacturer is not automatically equivalent: an Intel processor must be compared with the named Intel target, and an AMD processor with the named AMD target. If your exact CPU is not listed, this check cannot establish performance; it only tells you whether the model is at least represented by the published comparison point.
Do not substitute a processor’s clock-speed label, core count or brand family for its model name. Rockstar’s list identifies specific CPUs, not a universal “GHz” or core-count rule. If your CPU is between the listed minimum and recommended entries, mark that category separately and avoid calling the whole computer recommended.

System memory (RAM)
The Memory field reports installed system RAM. Match it to the edition and tier, and distinguish Enhanced’s recommended dual-channel wording from a simple capacity number. Having the stated amount installed does not turn a minimum specification into a recommended one. If dxdiag reports less memory than the row requires, the PC does not meet that published threshold.
Keep system RAM and video memory on separate lines in your notes. Eight gigabytes of system RAM cannot make up for a graphics adapter that lacks the listed video-memory capacity, and shared graphics memory should not be counted as dedicated VRAM.
Graphics processor and video memory
The Display tab contains the most important details for the graphics comparison: device name, chip information and approximate video memory. Compare the full GPU model and the stated memory capacity with the graphics entry in the applicable row.
Do not compare only a brand family. For example, seeing “NVIDIA” or “AMD” does not identify whether the card is one of Rockstar’s listed models. Likewise, shared memory reported for integrated graphics should not be assumed to equal dedicated VRAM on a discrete card.

A matching driver date therefore does not override a missing GPU model, VRAM amount or operating-system requirement.
Storage type and capacity
Storage is edition-specific. Enhanced minimum calls for an SSD, while Enhanced recommended specifies a DirectStorage-compatible drive. Legacy’s table lists an HDD. The table does not identify a particular drive model or interface, so verify that a proposed replacement or upgrade is accepted by your computer before purchasing it.
An SSD can address the Enhanced storage requirement only when the current machine lacks the required drive type. It cannot compensate for an under-spec processor, GPU, operating system or memory configuration. Also verify that the drive has at least the capacity in the selected row: 105GB for Enhanced and 125GB for Legacy. The requirement is about the drive used for the installation, not merely any separate disk in the computer.
What “minimum” and “recommended” actually tell you
Passing every minimum row
If your operating system, processor, RAM, GPU, video memory and storage all match the selected edition’s minimum row, you have evidence that the computer meets Rockstar’s published minimum specification. Rockstar does not attach a promised resolution, frame rate or smoothness level to that row. A minimum match therefore answers “does it clear the listed threshold?” rather than “what performance will I get?”
Matching the recommended row
A PC that is closer to every recommended entry matches Rockstar’s higher published target. That is a stronger position than merely meeting minimums, but the requirements page still does not publish benchmark results or a guaranteed frame rate. Keep the two tiers separate when deciding whether an upgrade is worthwhile.
When one component falls between tiers
Evaluate each category independently. A computer may exceed the minimum processor requirement while remaining below the recommended graphics requirement, or satisfy the graphics row while missing the operating-system or storage condition. Record those differences instead of declaring the entire machine “recommended” because one part qualifies.
Use the strictest category as the practical description of the result. For example, if every category reaches Enhanced minimum except storage, the correct result is not “passes Enhanced”; it is “does not yet meet the published Enhanced minimum because the storage condition is missing.” This prevents a single strong component from hiding a blocking requirement.

Integrated graphics and laptops need extra care
Rockstar cautions that some integrated graphics solutions and mobile chipsets may be incompatible. On a laptop with both integrated and discrete graphics, the Display tab may expose more than one adapter; record the adapter that the game will actually use and its reported memory. If dxdiag shows onboard graphics sharing system memory, do not treat that number as proof of dedicated VRAM equal to the listed GPU target.
Because the published list names specific desktop GPU models, an unlisted mobile or integrated part cannot be certified by this checklist alone. The correct conclusion is “not established by the published list,” not an invented equivalence. This is especially important when a laptop advertisement uses a family name without stating the exact mobile GPU model or memory configuration.
Online-play requirements are separate from hardware
A hardware match does not remove the service requirements. Rockstar states that activation and online play require an internet connection and a Rockstar Games network login, with periodic entitlement verification. Check those prerequisites separately from the dxdiag comparison. A PC can satisfy the hardware table and still be unable to play online if it cannot connect or the required account access is unavailable.
Think of the result as two check marks: one for the selected edition’s Windows, CPU, RAM, GPU, VRAM and storage row, and another for internet and account access. Both are needed for the online experience described by Rockstar. Neither check mark is a frame-rate guarantee.
Use this decision checklist
- Choose the edition: Enhanced or Legacy, not a mixture of both tables.
- Capture system data: use dxdiag’s System and Display tabs and keep the exact model names.
- Check the operating system: include the Windows edition, 64-bit status where required and the specified build.
- Check the processor: compare the complete CPU model with the same edition and tier.
- Check RAM: compare installed memory, including the dual-channel condition in Enhanced recommended.
- Check the GPU: compare the named graphics model and video-memory capacity, not just the vendor.
- Check storage: confirm the capacity and the required SSD, DirectStorage-compatible drive or HDD type for that row.
- Check online access: confirm an internet connection and Rockstar Games network login.
- Classify the result accurately: “meets published minimum,” “matches the recommended target,” or “not established” when a component is unlisted or ambiguous.
What to do when your PC misses a requirement
Missing the operating-system condition
First confirm the exact Windows edition, architecture and build in dxdiag. If it falls outside the selected row, the machine has not passed the published OS check. Resolve that eligibility issue before judging other components; a faster GPU cannot substitute for an unsupported operating system.

Insufficient RAM
Confirm that dxdiag’s memory value is lower than the applicable row rather than confusing system RAM with graphics memory. If you consider an expansion, verify that the computer supports the intended memory configuration. The published requirement establishes the target amount, but it does not specify a particular memory module or motherboard upgrade path.
Unlisted or weaker graphics hardware
Write down the exact adapter and approximate video memory from Display. If the model is not one of Rockstar’s listed comparison points, this method cannot certify compatibility. Integrated and mobile graphics deserve the most caution because Rockstar specifically notes possible incompatibility for some of them.
No suitable Enhanced storage
For Enhanced, an SSD is part of the minimum row and a DirectStorage-compatible drive is named at the recommended tier. Confirm the computer’s drive compatibility before buying an SSD. Storage alone cannot make an otherwise under-spec PC pass.
Choosing between an upgrade and Legacy
If the computer misses Enhanced but meets the separate Legacy row, report that distinction precisely. Legacy has lower published CPU, RAM and GPU thresholds and lists a 125GB HDD, while Enhanced requires a 105GB SSD even at minimum. Passing Legacy does not establish that Enhanced will run, and buying one component for Enhanced does not remove the need to satisfy the remaining categories.

Limits of this self-check
This process is a requirements comparison, not a test of your individual computer. Rockstar’s page supplies no benchmark statistics or frame-rate promise for either tier, and the compatibility instructions do not establish support for every unlisted component. Requirements can change as downloadable content and programming changes are introduced. Re-run the comparison against Rockstar’s current page if the requirements are updated or if you change the edition you plan to install.
The page and dxdiag also cannot tell you how a particular resolution, graphics preset or background workload will behave. Do not turn a pass into a numerical performance claim. The defensible conclusion is limited to the published category match and the separate online prerequisites.

Run dxdiag, capture the exact Windows, CPU, RAM, GPU, VRAM and storage information, and compare every item with the matching Enhanced or Legacy row. Passing all minimum entries means the PC meets Rockstar’s published minimum specification; being closer to the recommended row is a better match to Rockstar’s higher target. Neither result guarantees a particular frame rate, and both still depend on the required internet connection and Rockstar Games network login.
