To check whether your PC can run Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, identify the exact processor, graphics card, installed memory, Windows edition, and free space on an SSD. Compare those details with the performance tier in Activision’s official PC requirements, then separately verify DirectX 12, AVX, TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and (for Intel Arc graphics) Resizable BAR.

The published table is a set of launch targets, not a frame-rate guarantee. The minimum row is the entry point for running the game; the recommended row is aimed at high-setting multiplayer performance; and the ray-tracing row is for high-quality ray tracing at 4K upscaled. Laptop graphics processors need extra caution because the specifications are written for desktop PCs.

Start with the performance target you actually want

A PC that meets the minimum specification may launch and play the game, but it is not the same target as high-setting multiplayer or 4K ray tracing. Decide which outcome matters before judging your hardware.

Official tier Operating system CPU RAM Graphics card Video memory Storage
Minimum Windows 10 64-bit, latest update AMD Ryzen 5 1400 or Intel Core i5-6600 8 GB AMD Radeon RX 470, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or GTX 1060, or Intel Arc A580 3 GB SSD with 115 GB available at launch
Recommended: 90 FPS multiplayer, High settings Windows 11 64-bit, latest update AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel Core i7-8700 16 GB AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, or Intel Arc B580 8 GB SSD with 115 GB available at launch
High-quality ray tracing: 4K upscaled Windows 11 64-bit, latest update AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or Intel Core i7-10700K 32 GB AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti 16 GB SSD with 115 GB available at launch

These are the desktop specifications Activision published on October 1, 2026. Match the exact model, not just a brand or a broad series name. A newer-looking product number is not automatically equivalent, and a laptop part with a familiar name may perform differently from its desktop counterpart.

Find your exact PC specifications in Windows

Processor and installed memory

  1. Open Settings > System > About. Record the processor name exactly as shown and the installed RAM.
  2. For a second check, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, select Performance, and inspect CPU and Memory. Task Manager can show hardware reserved by the system, so distinguish installed memory from the amount currently available.
  3. If Windows does not identify the model clearly, run msinfo32 from the Start menu and use the System Information entries for the processor and installed physical memory. The computer maker’s support page or owner’s manual is the right fallback when the model is still ambiguous.

Graphics processor and video memory

  1. In Task Manager, go to Performance > GPU and copy the full adapter name. If more than one GPU appears, note which one is used for games.
  2. Open Device Manager > Display adapters to confirm the adapter model. Windows may show an integrated GPU as well as a discrete card.
  3. Run dxdiag and open the Display or Render tabs. Record the adapter name, driver date, and the displayed dedicated video memory. Do not treat shared system memory as dedicated video memory.
  4. On a desktop, the model printed on the card, its packaging, or the system builder’s invoice can resolve a name that Windows reports incompletely. On a laptop, record the complete computer model and the GPU suffix as well as the GPU family.

Windows edition and update status

  1. Go to Settings > System > About and check Windows specifications for the edition, version, and build.
  2. Go to Settings > Windows Update, select Check for updates, and restart if Windows requests it. The table assumes a current 64-bit installation, not an outdated build.
  3. Trial, beta, and Windows Insider versions may not be supported. If you use one, move to a supported public release before treating the operating-system row as satisfied.

Free space on an SSD

  1. Open File Explorer > This PC and identify the drive where the game will be installed.
  2. Right-click the drive, choose Properties, and verify both the drive type and free capacity. The game calls for an SSD, not merely a disk with enough empty space.
  3. Check the launcher’s selected install location as well as the Windows system drive. Updates or temporary installation files can use a different location, so avoid filling the drive completely.

Check requirements that the component table does not show

Matching a CPU, GPU, and RAM row does not prove that the PC is ready. Activision also lists software, firmware, and security requirements.

  • DirectX 12: DirectX 12 compatibility is listed for every tier. Run dxdiag and inspect the System tab’s DirectX version, then review the Display tab for driver and feature information. A current driver is still necessary even when Windows reports DirectX 12.
  • AVX on the processor: Supported processors must be Intel or AMD CPUs with the AVX instruction set. Windows does not always present AVX as a simple settings switch; check the processor’s official specifications or the computer maker’s documentation for the exact model.
  • TPM 2.0: Press Windows + R, enter tpm.msc, and check that the TPM is ready and its specification version is 2.0. A message saying no compatible TPM is found may mean it is disabled in firmware rather than absent, so consult the motherboard or laptop manual before changing settings.
  • Secure Boot: Run msinfo32 and look for Secure Boot State. It should be enabled. The same window shows BIOS Mode; changing from legacy boot to UEFI can require preparation because an incorrect firmware change can make Windows unbootable.
  • Resizable BAR for Intel Arc: Intel Arc cards require Resizable BAR. Check the motherboard firmware and graphics-card documentation for the Resizable BAR setting and the required UEFI configuration. If the option is missing, check for a firmware update and confirm that the motherboard supports it.
  • Broadband internet: An internet connection is part of the listed requirements. Meeting the hardware rows does not remove the need for a working connection for the game’s online services, updates, and authentication.
  • Other security checks: Activision says additional security measures may be enforced. Do not assume that enabling only one security feature will bypass a different check.

Compare your parts with the table without overestimating them

Your result What it means Practical decision
Any major component is below the minimum row The PC is outside the published launch baseline. Do not count on a supported installation. Consider a compatible component upgrade or another PC.
CPU, GPU, and RAM meet the minimum row, but not the recommended row The game may be playable at reduced settings, but the higher multiplayer target is not established by the specification. Use conservative settings and plan to evaluate the installed game with its benchmark.
The parts match the recommended row The hardware aligns with Activision’s high-setting multiplayer target. Verify all firmware, operating-system, driver, storage, and security requirements before installing.
The parts match the ray-tracing row The hardware aligns with the stated 4K-upscaled high-quality ray-tracing target. Still allow for scene-to-scene variation, driver changes, and game updates.
Only a product family is known, or a laptop GPU has a similar name The comparison is inconclusive. Find the exact model and use the laptop maker’s documentation rather than substituting a desktop card.
Hardware matches but TPM, Secure Boot, AVX, DirectX 12, or Resizable BAR is unknown A separate prerequisite may block play. Complete the individual checks before buying or replacing hardware.

A complete pre-install check, in order

  1. Write down the target: choose minimum playability, the recommended high-setting multiplayer experience, or high-quality ray tracing at 4K upscaled.
  2. Inventory the machine: record the exact CPU, GPU, dedicated video memory, installed RAM, Windows edition and build, and the SSD selected for installation.
  3. Compare exact models: use the official table rather than comparing only Ryzen, Core, Radeon, GeForce, or Arc family names. A near match is not proof of equivalence.
  4. Check the operating system: install current public Windows updates and confirm that the edition is 64-bit.
  5. Check DirectX and drivers: use dxdiag, then obtain a current graphics driver from the GPU or PC manufacturer. Activision’s page lists recommended driver versions and notes that a compatible driver could be released closer to launch, so use the live requirements page instead of relying on an old driver number.
  6. Check AVX: verify AVX support for the exact CPU model in its official documentation.
  7. Check TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot: use tpm.msc and msinfo32. If either is disabled, read the system manual before changing UEFI settings.
  8. Check Resizable BAR when applicable: Intel Arc owners should verify the feature in firmware and confirm that the platform supports it.
  9. Check the SSD: confirm that the installation drive has at least the published launch allowance and leave additional headroom for mandatory updates. Activision does not state an exact extra-space amount.
  10. Install only after resolving unknowns: a hardware match with an unresolved security or firmware requirement is not a complete compatibility check.

Laptop owners need a separate verification

The official table is for desktop PCs. Laptop GPUs can use different power limits, cooling systems, memory configurations, and model suffixes even when their names resemble desktop cards. A laptop marketed with a GPU family that appears in the table is therefore not automatically equivalent.

Use the built-in benchmark after installation

Pre-install checks tell you whether the machine fits the published requirements; they cannot predict every frame-time spike, map, driver interaction, or background-process conflict. After installation, run the game’s built-in Benchmark Tool. The Call of Duty Staff feature says the simulated multiplayer benchmark reports average FPS, CPU and GPU information, ping, and input latency, then provides zone-level detail and setting suggestions.

What to do when the PC falls short

Not enough SSD space

First remove or move unused data and confirm that the installation drive is actually an SSD. If an expansion is necessary, a 1 TB SSD is only a capacity option, not an Activision requirement. Check the motherboard or laptop’s supported interface, physical size, firmware, and available slot before purchasing any drive. Do not buy a drive solely because it has a larger capacity if the system cannot use its connector or form factor.

Insufficient RAM

Compare installed memory with the desired tier, then check the system manual for supported module types, maximum capacity, and available slots. Matching capacity alone is not enough if the module specification is incompatible with the motherboard or laptop.

Older graphics card or processor

Use the tier you can honestly meet. Replacing one component may expose another bottleneck, and a graphics upgrade can require a stronger power supply, additional case clearance, or a motherboard slot. Verify those system constraints before ordering parts. An optimizer or software tweak cannot turn unsupported hardware into a supported configuration or bypass security requirements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

TPM or Secure Boot failure

Do not repeatedly change firmware settings without a recovery plan. Confirm that Windows is installed in a compatible boot mode, back up important files, and follow the motherboard or laptop maker’s instructions. If the firmware lacks the required feature, the PC may not be a suitable candidate for a simple settings change.

Performance is lower than expected

Check that the game is using the intended discrete GPU, close competing background workloads, update Windows and the graphics driver, and run the benchmark again. Compare CPU, GPU, ping, and input-latency results to determine whether the issue is rendering load, processor load, network conditions, or latency rather than assuming the published specification was a guarantee.

Launch dates and why you should recheck the page

The PC feature announcement dated September 29, 2026 lists availability through Xbox on PC, Battle.net, and Steam on October 23, 2026. It lists PC preload beginning October 15 at 9 a.m. PT, campaign early access on October 16 for eligible digital preorders, and full-game release on October 23 at midnight local time. These dates do not change the component comparison and may change after publication.

Activision states that its requirements are valid for product launch and may be updated. Mandatory patches can require more storage than the launch allowance, and a compatible graphics driver may be released closer to launch. Reopen the live requirements page before installing, especially if you are checking a beta, an Insider Windows build, a newly released driver, or hardware purchased long before launch.
