Open the individual demo’s Steam Store page, scroll to System Requirements, and compare its operating system, CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, and additional notes with your PC’s exact specifications. Steam Next Fest has no single hardware requirement: every demo sets its own requirements.
Steam Next Fest does not have one PC requirement
Steam Next Fest is a Valve event built around upcoming games. Players can download playable demos, watch developer livestreams, and chat with development teams. The hardware question is therefore specific to each demo, not to the festival as a whole. For the October 2026 edition, Valve says an eligible game must have a publicly playable demo available when the festival begins, but that eligibility rule does not create a common CPU, GPU, memory, or storage baseline.

A small 2D demo and a demanding 3D demo can appear in the same Next Fest, with completely different requirements. Treat the demo’s own Store page as the starting point every time.

Steam Support’s guidance is direct: “You can check each game’s system requirements and compatible operating systems on that game’s Steam Store page by scrolling down to its ‘System Requirements’ section.” The Store page is more reliable than a festival list, a search snippet, or a screenshot because developers can update the demo build and its listed requirements.

Some developers publish a separate demo page, while others link the demo from the main game page. Confirm that the page you opened is for the intended title and playable demo before comparing specifications. A base-game page and its demo can have different builds, notes, or storage needs.
Step-by-step: compare your PC with the demo
1. Open the correct Store page
- Open the Steam Next Fest event page or search for the title in Steam.
- Select the game’s Store page, then check the title, developer, and demo wording.
- If the page links to a separate demo, open that page and use its requirements rather than assuming the base game’s requirements apply.
Do not infer compatibility from the festival banner, screenshots, genre, or the fact that a demo is free. Those details say nothing about the hardware it needs.
2. Locate “System Requirements”
Scroll below the description and look for the System Requirements heading. Depending on the title, Steam may show separate sections for Windows, macOS, SteamOS, and Linux. Record both Minimum and Recommended entries when they are present.
If a requirement is absent, mark it as not stated rather than treating the omission as “any hardware.” A developer may provide more detail in the demo’s discussion hub or a developer FAQ.
3. Check the operating system first
Verify that your installed Windows, macOS, or Linux/SteamOS version is supported. An otherwise adequate CPU or GPU cannot compensate for an unsupported operating system. Also note whether the listing requires a 64-bit system or names a particular compatibility limitation.
When a page lists several operating systems, compare the section for the system on which you will actually run the demo. Do not use the Windows requirement to judge a macOS installation, or vice versa.
4. Match the exact processor
Compare your CPU model with the model named by the developer. A processor from the same family is not automatically equivalent: generation, core design, clock behavior, and integrated graphics can differ substantially. If your model is close to the stated minimum, look up the exact model and generation before deciding that it qualifies.

For a borderline comparison, write down the complete model name rather than a marketing family name. “Core i5” or “Ryzen 5” alone is not enough to establish a match.
5. Match the graphics hardware and API
Check the exact GPU model and any graphics API or feature requirement. A listing may identify a graphics API, a feature level, or a capability such as ray tracing. Those notes are part of the requirement, not optional recommendations.
Integrated graphics deserve extra caution. They may share system memory with the CPU and can behave differently from a dedicated graphics card, even when a broad product label appears similar. Compare the named model and feature support, not only the amount of video memory reported by your system.
6. Check installed RAM and available storage
Compare the installed RAM with the amount listed for the demo. Then check available disk space, not merely the drive’s total capacity. Steam’s client files, shader cache, updates, and the operating system need room as well. A drive that technically has the required free space today can become too full during installation or an update.
If the requirement is expressed as a storage number, treat it as space needed for that demo under the listed build. Keep additional headroom instead of filling the drive to the exact threshold.
7. Read every additional note
Requirements sometimes include conditions outside the main CPU/GPU/RAM lines. Look for notes about:

These statements can change whether the demo works for your setup even when the headline hardware appears to match.
8. Interpret the comparison conservatively
Steam Support warns: “Please compare your machine’s specs against the game’s system requirements on the store page, and note that a machine at or near system requirements may experience performance or launch issues when playing.” Meeting the minimum is permission to try, not a promise of a smooth frame rate or a successful launch.

How to find your PC’s exact specifications
Use the full model names shown by your operating system. Record the operating-system edition and version, processor model, graphics adapter, installed memory, and free space on the drive where you plan to install the demo.
Windows
- Open Settings and go to System > About to see the Windows edition, system type, processor, and installed RAM.
- Open Task Manager > Performance to identify the CPU and the GPU presented to Windows.
- In File Explorer, open This PC and check the free space on the intended drive.
Copy the complete processor and graphics model, including the series or generation where Windows displays it. If more than one GPU is listed, note which one the demo will use; a laptop may expose both integrated and dedicated adapters.
macOS
- Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac to record the macOS version, chip or processor, and memory.
- Use the storage view in the same information area to check available space on the target disk.
Pay attention to whether the Store page has a macOS section at all. A Windows requirement cannot establish compatibility with a Mac, and a Mac with an Apple chip may not match a listing written for Intel hardware.
Linux and SteamOS
- Open your distribution’s system-information tools and record the exact kernel/distribution version, CPU, GPU, and installed RAM.
- Check free space on the Linux partition or SteamOS storage device where the demo will be installed.
Use the Linux or SteamOS requirement section shown on the Store page. If the developer lists only Windows, do not assume that a compatibility layer or community workaround is supported by the demo.

A practical comparison worksheet
Putting both sides in one table prevents a vague “my PC is probably close” judgment. Fill in the demo’s values exactly as written, then enter your PC’s values from its system-information screens.
| Category | Demo requirement | Your PC | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Minimum and recommended OS, edition, or architecture | Installed OS and version | The installed platform is explicitly supported. |
| CPU | Exact minimum and recommended model | Exact processor model and generation | Family names alone do not prove equivalence. |
| GPU | Exact model and any API or feature note | Exact graphics adapter | Required API/features are available; integrated graphics need extra caution. |
| RAM | Minimum and recommended memory | Installed RAM | Your system meets the listed amount. |
| Storage | Space requested by the demo | Free space on the target drive | There is room for Steam files, shader cache, updates, and the OS. |
| Other notes | Controller, internet, ultrawide, ray tracing, anti-cheat, or other conditions | Your setup and intended way to play | Every note is satisfied, not just the hardware rows. |
What Minimum and Recommended really mean
Minimum
Minimum is the publisher’s floor for attempting to launch and play under the conditions it considered. It is not a standardized Steam performance target. Developers may choose different settings, resolutions, and test conditions when writing minimum specifications.
If your PC is below minimum in one major category, expect a meaningful risk of a failed launch, severe performance problems, missing features, or incompatibility. A shortfall in the operating system or a required graphics feature is especially serious because adding memory or lowering a setting will not fix it.
Recommended
Recommended is the publisher’s target for a better experience, but it is still not a guarantee across every resolution, graphics preset, driver version, or background workload. It generally gives you more margin than the minimum tier, yet it should not be read as a promised frame rate.

Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf your PC clears recommended, the demo is a stronger candidate to try. You still need to read the notes and keep drivers and the operating system in a supported state.
Near the minimum
A PC that is at or near minimum deserves a cautious trial rather than a confident prediction. Close background applications, update the graphics driver, and be prepared to lower resolution or graphics settings. These are practical troubleshooting steps, not guarantees. Steam specifically cautions that systems at or near the listed requirements may encounter performance or launch issues.
Best Value
Use the result to choose your next step
| Comparison result | sensible action |
|---|---|
| All major components exceed Recommended and all notes match | Install the demo and start with the developer’s expected settings; adjust only if your actual workload differs. |
| Between Minimum and Recommended | Try it, but expect to tune resolution, quality settings, and background tasks. |
| At or barely above Minimum | Close unnecessary programs, update the graphics driver, retain storage headroom, and treat launch or performance problems as possible. |
| Below Minimum in CPU, GPU, RAM, or storage | Do not assume an upgrade will solve the issue without identifying the exact shortfall and the demo’s other requirements. |
| Unsupported OS or missing required API/feature | Check whether the developer documents another supported platform; hardware alone does not resolve this mismatch. |
When the comparison is unclear
The model names do not line up
Use the exact CPU and GPU model names, installed RAM, operating-system version, and free storage when asking for help. A forum answer based only on “I have an i5” or “I have 8 GB” cannot establish compatibility. Include the demo’s Minimum and Recommended lines as well.
The page has little or no requirement detail
Check the demo’s discussion hub or the developer’s FAQ for a known issue. Treat community reports as anecdotal: one player’s result can depend on resolution, drivers, operating-system version, background software, or a later demo build.

The demo changed after you checked
Demos can be updated during or after Next Fest. Revisit the Store page if the build changes, a developer announces an update, or your first comparison no longer matches what Steam displays. Use the current listing for the version you are about to install.
Comparing two Next Fest demos
If you are choosing between two demos, compare them on identical axes instead of relying on genre or download size. Make a row for each demo and record:
- Supported operating systems
- Minimum and Recommended CPU
- Minimum and Recommended GPU
- Graphics API or feature requirements
- RAM and storage
- Controller and online requirements
- Whether your exact PC clears each tier
This approach exposes an important difference: one demo may list a lower GPU requirement but demand a newer operating system, while another may run on your OS but require more storage. There is no meaningful “Next Fest PC requirement” to use as a tie-breaker.
Why a hardware upgrade cannot be chosen from the event name
Buying or selecting an upgrade responsibly requires the named demo and the PC’s exact specifications. “Next Fest” is not a game engine or a performance class. A GPU upgrade may not help if the real mismatch is an unsupported operating system, insufficient RAM, a missing graphics API, or a CPU limitation. Conversely, adding RAM will not supply a graphics feature that the GPU does not support.
First identify the failed requirement, then check the demo’s other notes and the rest of your system. Without those details, an upgrade recommendation would be guesswork rather than a compatibility check.
A compact pre-install checklist
- Open the intended demo’s own Steam Store page.
- Find the System Requirements section.
- Record the supported operating system and version notes.
- Copy the exact Minimum and Recommended CPU and GPU models.
- Check graphics API and feature requirements.
- Compare installed RAM and free storage.
- Read controller, internet, ultrawide, ray-tracing, and anti-cheat notes.
- Interpret Minimum as a trial threshold, not a smooth-play guarantee.
- Re-check the page if the demo receives an update.
The reliable answer to “Can my PC run this Steam Next Fest demo?” is therefore found one demo at a time: match the Store page’s operating system, CPU, GPU, memory, storage, and notes against your exact machine, then keep expectations conservative when your hardware is near the minimum.
