How to Check Whether Your Google Pixel Is Compatible With Mint Mobile

Yes, a Google Pixel can be brought to Mint Mobile, but compatibility is determined for the exact phone, not for the Pixel name alone. Enter the specific Pixel model and its IMEI in Mint’s BYOP (bring your own phone) compatibility checker, then confirm that the phone is unlocked. If you want eSIM, verify eSIM eligibility separately; if eSIM is unavailable, Mint says a physical SIM may still work. Finally, check coverage at the places you will use the phone, because a 5G-capable Pixel does not guarantee 5G service everywhere.

The most reliable result is the live checker result for your device. A result for another Pixel generation, a product listing, or a search snippet cannot establish that your particular carrier variant or regional model will activate.

What you need before checking

Have the phone in front of you and collect three details: the exact Pixel model, its IMEI, and its current lock status. These checks answer different questions, so passing one does not replace the others.

  • Exact model: Identify the model shown in Android settings or on the phone’s original documentation. “Google Pixel” is too broad because generations, storage versions, carrier editions, and regional variants can have different network and SIM capabilities.
  • IMEI: Mint may request the device identifier in the compatibility flow. You can display it by dialing *#06#. Mint also lists Settings > About device > Status as a way to find the IMEI on Android.
  • Unlock status: Mint requires an unlocked phone for BYOP. If the Pixel was purchased from a carrier, ask that carrier to confirm whether it is unlocked and, if it is not, follow that carrier’s unlock requirements.

Do not treat an IMEI from a box, receipt, or another phone as a substitute for the IMEI of the Pixel you intend to activate. Use the identifier displayed by that phone.

Run Mint’s BYOP compatibility check

  1. Open Mint’s BYOP compatibility checker. Mint also provides compatibility and coverage checking through its app. Use the current checker rather than relying on a general list of supported phones.
  2. Choose the phone type and enter the exact Pixel information. Select the Google Pixel model that matches your handset. If the checker asks for an IMEI, enter the IMEI displayed on that phone.
  3. Submit the check and save the result. The result applies to the device information you entered. It is not a blanket approval for every Pixel model or every version sold under the same model name.
  4. Resolve any request for more information. If Mint asks for an IMEI or another identifier, provide the requested value from the phone itself. A model-only result may not establish eligibility for a particular carrier variant.
  5. Check the result before ordering or activating service. If Mint reports that the phone is not compatible, do not assume a different Pixel generation will have the same outcome. Check that exact device again and contact the current carrier if the phone’s identity or unlock status is unclear.

Mint’s BYOP FAQ states that an unlocked phone compatible with Mint eSIM can be activated instantly on the phone. That statement describes the conditions for eSIM activation; it does not remove the need to verify the specific Pixel in the checker.

How to interpret the checker result

Compatible

A compatible result means Mint’s check accepts the device information you supplied for BYOP. Continue with the unlock, SIM, and coverage checks. Compatibility by itself does not promise that every feature—such as Wi-Fi Calling—will be available, nor does it guarantee 5G at every address.

Not compatible

Recheck that you selected the correct Pixel model and entered the IMEI from the phone you will use. If the result remains negative, the handset may be an unsupported variant, may lack a required network capability, or may be affected by its carrier configuration. Mint’s live result is the controlling answer for that phone; do not infer eligibility from another Pixel’s result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The checker cannot identify the phone

Confirm the IMEI using both available methods—*#06# and Settings > About device > Status—and run the check again. If the values do not match, stop and determine which identifier belongs to the handset. For an unresolved issue, ask Mint or the phone’s current carrier to verify the device details before attempting activation.

Confirm that the Pixel is unlocked

Mint says an unlocked phone is required for BYOP. A Pixel can be technically compatible yet unable to activate while it remains locked to another carrier. Unlocking is controlled by the carrier that imposed the lock, not by the Mint checker.

  1. Ask the current or original carrier to confirm the Pixel’s unlock status.
  2. If it is locked, ask that carrier for its unlock requirements and complete them before moving the phone to Mint.
  3. After the carrier confirms the unlock, rerun Mint’s compatibility check if the earlier result was uncertain.
  4. Keep the carrier’s confirmation until activation is complete, particularly if the Pixel was financed, recently replaced, or purchased second-hand.

Do not confuse an unlocked bootloader with an unlocked cellular phone. Mint’s BYOP requirement concerns the carrier lock used for mobile service.

Check eSIM and physical-SIM options separately

eSIM eligibility is a separate decision from general Mint compatibility. Mint requires an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone for eSIM activation. A Pixel can pass the general compatibility check and still lack eSIM support, or its particular variant may not be eligible for eSIM.

Your situation What to verify Activation path
Unlocked Pixel and Mint-compatible eSIM Confirm the checker result and eSIM eligibility for that exact phone. Use the Mint app or the QR-code process described by Mint.
Mint-compatible Pixel but eSIM is unavailable Confirm that the phone accepts a physical SIM and that the checker permits BYOP. Use a Mint physical SIM.
Locked Pixel Obtain confirmation from the current carrier that the lock has been removed. Do not begin Mint activation until the unlock requirement is met.
Unknown model or variant Run the IMEI-based check rather than relying on the Pixel family name. Use whichever SIM method the live result and Mint instructions support.

Mint’s instructions identify the physical SIM as an option when a compatible phone cannot use eSIM. The SIM choice does not make an incompatible or locked phone eligible; it only changes how an eligible device receives service credentials.

Check coverage where you actually use the phone

Device compatibility and network coverage are different checks. Mint says availability varies by location. Check the addresses or areas that matter to you—such as home, work, school, and regular travel routes—using Mint’s coverage tool or app before you promise yourself a particular level of service.

For 5G, Mint’s requirement is cumulative: you need a 5G-capable phone and a 5G coverage area. A Pixel that supports 5G can fall back to another network mode where 5G is unavailable. Therefore, a successful compatibility result should not be read as a guarantee of a 5G icon, 5G speeds, or 5G availability at every location.

When evaluating coverage, use the location-specific result rather than a nationwide assumption. Buildings, terrain, local network conditions, and the availability shown for your address can all affect the service you experience, even when the phone itself is eligible.

Do not assume every Pixel generation is covered by one example

Mint’s 5G information names the Google Pixel 6 Pro as an example of a 5G-compatible phone and says that a 5G-capable phone brought to Mint should be unlocked and GSM compatible. The Pixel 6 Pro example is evidence for that named device, not proof that every Pixel generation, carrier edition, or regional model qualifies for every Mint feature.

Pixel information What can be concluded What still requires a live check
Google Pixel 6 Pro Mint lists it as an example of a 5G-compatible phone. Your handset’s IMEI, unlock status, eSIM eligibility, Wi-Fi Calling, and local coverage.
Another Pixel generation No automatic conclusion follows from the Pixel 6 Pro example. Run Mint’s checker for the exact model and IMEI.
Carrier-sold or regional Pixel variant The product name alone does not establish eligibility. Use the IMEI-based result and confirm the carrier unlock.
Pixel described only as 5G-capable The hardware may support 5G. Mint compatibility and 5G coverage at your locations.

Check Wi-Fi Calling as its own feature

A general BYOP result does not automatically establish Wi-Fi Calling availability. Mint supplies a separate IMEI check for Wi-Fi Calling, so run that check if the feature matters to you.

  1. Find the Pixel’s IMEI by dialing *#06# or opening Settings > About device > Status.
  2. Open Mint’s Wi-Fi Calling checker and submit the IMEI it requests.
  3. Use the feature-specific result when deciding whether Wi-Fi Calling will be available on that phone.

This separation matters because a phone can be accepted for Mint service while a particular feature remains unsupported on that model or variant.

Activate after the checks pass

eSIM activation

For an unlocked Pixel that Mint identifies as eSIM-compatible, Mint describes activation through its app or a QR code. Follow the current on-screen instructions and use the same phone whose compatibility and unlock status you verified. The eSIM path is intended for an eligible device; it is not a workaround for a locked or incompatible handset.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Physical-SIM activation

If the Pixel is compatible but cannot use eSIM, choose a physical Mint SIM and follow Mint’s activation instructions. This is the documented fallback when eSIM is unsuitable. Confirm the device’s physical-SIM support and keep the SIM packaging and activation details until service is working.

After the SIM or eSIM is installed

Test the functions you actually need: calls, cellular data, text messages, and picture messages. Then test in more than one relevant location if coverage is important. A successful activation confirms that the line is provisioned; it does not by itself prove that every feature or every location will behave identically.

Fix Android data or picture-message problems

Mint documents a specific Android setup step for data or picture-message problems after the SIM or eSIM has been installed: text SETUP to 6700. Use that instruction when cellular data or MMS does not work after activation.

  1. Make sure the Mint SIM or eSIM is installed and the line has completed activation.
  2. From the Pixel’s messaging app, send SETUP as a text message to 6700.
  3. Follow any configuration response or instructions Mint sends.
  4. Retest cellular data and picture messages after the setup process completes.

If the phone still fails after following Mint’s documented setup instruction, record the exact symptom—no data, no picture messages, or both—and contact Mint support with the Pixel model and IMEI result available. Do not replace a compatible phone solely because messaging fails before the carrier settings have been requested.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Account for older network support

Mint’s help information warns that older 2G or 3G devices, and some older 4G phones without VoLTE, can lose service in connection with the network shutdown it describes. The page cites August 3, 2026 as the shutdown date and advises checking for software updates and enabling VoLTE.

That date has passed, so treat the current Mint instructions as authoritative for your activation date and location. If you are bringing an older Pixel, install available software updates and verify that VoLTE is enabled where Mint’s current guidance requires it. Do not assume that a phone that worked before the transition will continue to work without the required voice-over-LTE support.

A decision table for common cases

Compatibility result Unlocked? eSIM eligible? Recommended next step
Compatible Yes Yes Check local coverage and activate with the Mint app or QR-code eSIM process.
Compatible Yes No or unknown Verify eSIM status; use a physical SIM if eSIM is unavailable.
Compatible No Either Ask the current carrier to unlock the phone before activation.
Not compatible Yes Either Confirm the exact model and IMEI; if the result remains negative, do not proceed with that handset.
Unknown result Unknown Unknown Recheck the IMEI, confirm the carrier lock status, and ask Mint or the current carrier to resolve the device record.

Common mistakes that lead to wrong conclusions

  • Checking only the word “Pixel”: A product family is not a device-level approval. Use the exact model and IMEI.
  • Using another phone’s IMEI: Mint’s result must correspond to the handset you plan to activate.
  • Skipping the unlock check: Compatibility cannot remove a carrier lock.
  • Assuming eSIM is universal: eSIM support and eligibility must be verified separately.
  • Equating 5G hardware with 5G coverage: Mint requires both a 5G-capable phone and a 5G coverage area.
  • Assuming Wi-Fi Calling follows general compatibility: Use Mint’s separate IMEI check for that feature.
  • Ignoring network-transition requirements: Older devices without the required VoLTE support may lose service.
  • Judging compatibility from a setup problem: Request Android network settings by texting SETUP to 6700 before deciding that the Pixel itself is unsupported.

Final pre-activation checklist

  • Exact Pixel model identified.
  • IMEI retrieved with *#06# or Settings > About device > Status.
  • Mint BYOP checker completed for that model and IMEI.
  • Current carrier confirms the Pixel is unlocked.
  • eSIM eligibility checked separately, or a physical-SIM plan chosen.
  • Coverage checked at the locations where service matters.
  • 5G expectations matched to both the phone’s capability and local coverage.
  • Wi-Fi Calling checked separately if it is important.
  • Software updates installed and VoLTE enabled where required for an older device.
  • Mint’s Android setup instruction—texting SETUP to 6700—available if data or picture messaging fails after activation.
